Roof rejuvenation / Insurance
I suppose it does to some extent lengthen the service life of the roof, but is there any benefit with one's home insurance company ?
|
I doubt it. According to Certainteed, a major shingle manufacturer, they do not recommend the product and they will not pay anything under their warranty if you have applied RoofMax or a similar product.

An insurance company will not pay if there is no value. I assume it depends on the contractor and the product. |
Literally A Waste Of Hard Earned Money - Don’t Use Roof Rejuvenate or Roof Maxx

The county will want to see the decking and underlay so when you get your insurance renewal and they drop you, then you will know you have made a poor choice. I don’t condone pushy roof sales or insurance fraud, but I do know that the Tri-Counties are bearing down on all homeowners to stop these gimmicks because they will not truly extend the roof and there are warning signs on these contractors disclosures about “true-efficiency” and “extension effectiveness”…. Thanks all. As you probably know this dubious product was prominently featured in a " Home Magazine" many of us received.

We’re Quite Happy With Roof Rejuvenate
We got the roof seams sealed and Roof Rejuvinate product applied about a year ago. Results were immediate with the shingles on our 7 year old roof settling. The identical roof next door has extensive blue-green algae and we have none. That roof suffered extensive hurricane damage last month. We had none. We are happy with our $3500 treatment. Our insurance company (based in Florida) said they haven’t yet evaluated the benefits, so no reduction in policy yet.

Had Roof Maxx treatment two years ago on our 18 year old roof. Insurance inspector stated our roof looks to be 10 years old and in great shape.

Providing links to roofers’ opinions on a product designed to keep you from having to utilize their services is akin to asking a chiropractor if you can stretch regularly to avoid theirs. Not dissing the roofers, but parking a car in a garage will extend the life of a cars paint job and resealing a roof should help. The price might seem steep, but if it gives you the time to avoid financing for your roof replacement, that might be a win.
My two cents. |
We had our roof cleaned a year or 2 ago under the house warranty provided by the shingle maker. Our roof is still in one piece and clean.

Could be.

If you extend the life of your 18 year old roof, you still have an 18 year-old roof.
Maybe you're not thinking of selling for years, but a buyer would see 18, 20, 23 and run; or insist on a new roof. |

I checked with my insurance agent. Adds no value, it's still an old roof with a topical addition. Maybe like adding polish to a car body, looks nice, it's still an old paint job.

Roof Rejuvenation
As Credibility: I was involved with GAF - the world's largest roofing company. There are many roof rejuvenation companies on the market. I know the owners of the two largest ones. The best technology is GoNano our of Canada. The biggest one in the US is RoofMax - but - the formula isn't quite as good.
Here's why: a) Asphalt... it literally restores the asphalt to the almost new state. Therefore, it should extend the life of the roof for 10 - 15 years. b) Impact Resistance... THAT is what it does - better! It takes a Class 2 Shingle up to at least a Class 3 - maybe 4. That means it is hail resistant. If you are one of The Villagers who prefers not to replace their roof due to hail damage - this is a GOOD reason to have their roof done with this product. c) Mold / Algae... prevents growth. As it relates to insurance -the situation is not clear. There are some companies accepting it - but - to most - it is not well known technology. So - you have to ask. Hope that helps! |
