Items left at supermarkets
I am getting annoyed now at the number of times I have been to the grocery stores and when I get home I find that an item has been left in the bags at the check out. Its happened to me a few times and more recently I have started to check the bag carousel to check I have all my bags, but the check out person doesn't seem to like this. I check my receipt to make sure I paid for the item, but clearly the bag has not been given to me. Annoyed today, as I am missing a "much looked forward to" candy bar!!! Rant over.......

We carefully check before we leave and so far apparently so good. Think the cashier is supposed to ring up some amount of sales per hour so if it slows it down he will not be happy but oh well. |
The same happened to Me at Publics, left my bag of meat at the self-checkout. Realized it when I got to my car and headed straight back in and not to my surprise it was gone. Went to Customer Service and they replaced everything for me at no extra charge!!

I've done this as well. I only blame myself though. I don't care if the check-out person is unhappy with me checking to see if I've forgotten anything. I've never had one give me the impression they were bothered by the 2 second interruption in their day for me to take a final look.
I've also left ground beef in the trunk of the car, having missed the bag while unloading. I don't recommend it. |
Don’t really have that issue with Kroger…delivery person rang the bell at the time I chose. Handed me a Hersey Chocolate, smiled Happy Thanksgiving. Because I usually have the same delivery person I gave him a Thanksgiving gift card. See you next week :MOJE_whot::MOJE_whot:

The bag "carousel" means he's going through the cashier line at Walmart. The OP can always use the self checkout, or tell the cashier you want to bag the groceries yourself. You can even bring re-usable bags and let them know you have them. Lots of options.
And no, they're not required to ring up any specific amount of sales, that isn't a thing. There's no quota, it's just a low-pay hourly job where they have to put up with miserable people who can't manage to pay attention when someone else is handling their groceries. |
Have never left a bag of groceries, but have left my Bride.

Cashiers and bag-fillers here have NO sense of urgency. Up north that was one of the criteria you had to fulfill in order to get a merit raise. |

I just had a great experience with Walmart (across from Colony plaza), my wife accidently left a bag of groceries at the store. She did not realize until getting ready to make the stuffing. Sends me to the store with the receipt, and I ended up with the nicest (manager?) and sales associate. I explained what happened and was able to have the items replaced. I thanked them for their understanding and all of their help (I had never been to this store) and I needed some help finding all of the items. I wish I had gotten their names. A wonderful start for the holiday.

Use self check out…problem solved

“ where they have to put up with miserable people who can't manage to pay attention when someone else is handling their groceries”. Interesting way to respond to OP I guess
|
I LOVE self check out and that's the reason why. I check prices as I along and I'm sure it's all done correctly at my own pace. I never use checkers anymore. That's one big thing I'm thankful for today!

The simple solution is for the grocery store to maintain a totally clear space for the items purchased and to ensure that the space is clear before serving the next customer. But, the space is often cluttered with other items.

our son lives in Texas and they shop at HEB for groceries. Happened to my daughter-in-law who left a bag at checkout. My son stopped at the store on his way home from work and asked the Customer Service desk if a bag was left. They opened a book that listed all groceries ever left, found his missing items in a left bag on the list at about the time she was there. Gave him the list so he could replace the items. I was amazed they kept the records! HEB is a really great chain! It was by far the best grocery store we ever frequented.

Didn't work for Big Y but it was in walking distance for anything light enough to carry home. We also had a Walmart but I very rarely ever shopped there. Big Y had those Buy 1 Get TWO free sales - I would always stock up on anything we used regularly when they did that. Plus it was clean, spacious, well-lit, the customer service was outstanding. It was basically the northern version of Publix, with better sales and not as good of a sub/hot foods department. They were okay with bag-ging groceries. But seriously - why are all the cashiers and bag-gers so SLOW down here? I wanna get my stuff through check-out, into my car, and home before the ice cream melts. |
You are entitled to "inspect the quality of any job that you are paying for", which includes bagging groceries and ensuring that the bags make it into your shopping cart. People should never by shy about inspecting the quality of work that they are paying for, whether it be bagging groceries or a tradesman's work around their home. Anyone that takes pride in their work should appreciate it. You shouldn't care about what the check out person likes or doesn't like.

Even S&S is cheap compared to Publix. Unfortunately there isn’t much of a choice around The Villages. |

That’s why Publix is better than Walmart.

I Pack my own bags and don't have that problem.

Love the Big y

I prefer self-packing my groceries, for sanitary reasons.
Several years back I was shopping at Wal-Mart (not in TV). The clerk (younger gal who seemed to be moving in slow motion) was ringing up my purchases and bagging them as she went. She went to open another bag on the carousel, licking her thumb first. As she did, a thick line of drool, maybe 6" - 8" long, emanated from her mouth to her thumb and plopped down on the front of her shirt. No sale. I told the manager on the way out but I don't know if anything was ever done. |
