New mattress

Can anyone recommend a good mattress store?

retiredguy123 12-08-2024 06:24 AM

Costco or Amazon.

Bill14564 12-08-2024 06:29 AM

Not a store, but this NYT best mattress article might help.

We have a foam mattress and a hybrid mattress, both from the "worth considering" category, that we are happy with.

Babubhat 12-08-2024 08:09 AM

Costco. Avoid the chain mattress stores. Just another layer of cost to pay a salesperson.

Or find a hotel bed you like and buy online. Commercial quality will last longer

Bob, I have one for sale, like new, might be worth a try and cheaper than new as the new ones are costly.

No, I can't recommend a good store but I highly recommend the following website to help you determine which mattress you should buy.

We have used The Original Mattress Factory on numerous occasions over the years and have had great success with their mattresses, our children also buy theirs from them. They truly have no middlemen involved, all direct company owned stores.

retiredguy123 12-08-2024 09:08 AM

It is almost impossible to compare mattresses for quality and price. The mattress companies deliberately make their products confusing and difficult to compare even within their own product line. For example, last year I tried to buy the latest Tempurpedic mattress and found that they don't assign a model number to every mattress. I asked the guy at the Tempurpedic store in Brownwood, how do I know I will be getting their latest product, when a mattress on Amazon is cheaper and has the exact same name? His answer was "you don't". I would never buy a mattress from a retail store. I would buy it online from Costco or Amazon after doing as much research as I could.

We had a sleep number for many years (over 10) which I really liked as I could set my side to 'rock' (I like a very firm mattress) and my wife could set her side to very soft. The reason for changing was my wife got to the point she did not like sleeping on an "air mattress" and could not stay warm enough. It appears the newest versions have temperature control included, which was not an option when we bought. I believe the current bed was bought at mattress firm.

Highly recommend the 100% latex mattresses from the online store foam sweet foam. Super comfortable, good for the back/neck, but not inexpensive. A good mattress isn’t something to cut corners on, we spend about a third of our lives in bed. These mattress are heavy, require a platform bed frame, and don’t use a box spring underneath them. We love our bed so much we have an identical setup at both of our homes.

SleepNumber. We bought our C4 model maybe 10 years ago? With just the platform, no headboard or SleepIQ app or any of that extra stuff. Best bed we ever got, and it's showing zero signs of wearing. It's not just an air mattress. It's individual chambers, connected. And then surrounded by a thick couple inches of cushioning, with a thick cushion on top. And then there's another layer of cushioning and then the quilted mattress cover, and then finally the bottom sheet. Amazingly comfortable. Hubby likes his side at 70, I shift between 50 and 55 depending on how my hip and lower back are with each season change.

The mattress is so lightweight that it's SUPER easy to change the sheets and do proper hospital corners. It packs up into a box that's a bit on the big side for carrying around, but lightweight and will fit in the back of any SUV or minivan with plenty of room to spare. Takes an hour to set up from unpacking to getting the air setting to the 20 minimum.

You never have to flip it over. It will never start to dip in the middle. Because the inner part of the mattress is SUPER-thick vinyl, any accidents can be easily sponged right off, no staining or worry about lingering odors or bacteria buildup destroying fibers, which can be a problem with conventional mattresses.

If you are a cheapskate like me, then I recommend Big Lots in Leesburg. The store is dump, and they have limited selection. But if what you want is a Standard Sealy 17" thick posturpedic pillow top innerspring mattress, you can buy them there for 20% less than Costco. And you can lie on one.

If you instead want a Hybrid mattress, then Costco is the way to go. Best prices. But you have to buy it based on specs, because there are none available in the store to lie on. They do have a few innerspings sitting on the floor, but no Hybrids I don't believe.

If you want memory foam bed-in-a-box, then costco or amazon.

If you want a high end luxury mattress, I would have no idea where to go.

Just my $.02

Denver Mattress. Order online and they will deliver. Consumer reports gives them a high rating.

As #7 poster said. NapLab.com has some good reviews. We just purchased Wink brand beds based off their reviews, and some 3 weeks into sleeping on them, have been totally satisfied.
I was looking for a store to ‘try’ them, but never made it. Someone has their mattresses to try in Tampa, according to the Wink website.

I second The Original Mattress store on 441. I recently bought a queen mattress there & am very happy with it. Great price, delivery and take away was perfect.

Relax in Comfort in Sumter Landing. Comparable to sleep number, but less expensive. Great customer service. We’ve had our bed for 6 years and love it.

Went to every mattress store with 50 miles of TV. Didn’t like any of them. Found a Saatva store in Winter Park and bought one, using it since June and have been sleeping like a baby!
Mattresses are so specific to each person. One needs to find the perfect fit for them. Prior to this purchase we used Original Mattress for the past 20 years and were happy with those.

ltcdfancher 12-09-2024 07:43 AM

My wife and I bought a Saatva mattress about four years ago with the 4” foundation. We agree that it’s a comfortable mattress. The only negative comment that I can give the mattress is that after a few years it will show ‘dips’ where we both lay. Only a mattress with some sort of air bladder might perform better in this area I think.

We have had ours for 21 years and just bought a second.

We visited all the local mattress stores, and we looked at the catalog from Sam's club.
Sam's club was the best deal money wise, but the return policy of having to ship it back was a game changer.

After careful review we purchased a new mattress from The Original Mattress Factory store located in Spanish Springs. Now after 60 days of sleeping on it, I'll rate the mattress a 9 out of 10. Similar quality and feel of a stearns and foster mattress costing $1000 more and a big leap better than a seely mattress.

We bought from Amazon. Got queen size mattress with adjustable base for $1000! Very comfortable!

Before you buy go listen to the sales pitch at The Original Mattress Factory.

Sleep Number, Over the past 30 years I bought 3, The first one a double still in use, then up graded to a Queen, which is still in use. Moved to the Villages and bought a king. Love them. Bit pricy but WELL WORTH it

Sleep Number

I have had two sleep numbers, one of the top 5 investments I have made in stuff around the house. They have some great sales going on right now. It may appear expensive, but think about the life expectancy - 15 years plus - never having to flip it, two separate sides to control for personal comfort and the mattress feels the same after 15 years as it did day 1. If you go, use my name as a referral.

Bwanajim 12-09-2024 08:54 AM

I had a Nectar foam for 10 years & loved it. I moved here a couple years ago. I bought a new one. After a few months there’s been a depression where I lay in it. They sent me another one no charge and the same issue. You get 365 days to try it and you can get a full refund if you don’t like it. Finally went to mattress firm and bought a Sealy.

That happens with foam and hybrid mattresses, but not with 100% latex.

Also recommend Relax in Comfort. We have had ours for 12 years. One issue handled under warranty with no problems. We also have a Casper mattress bought at Rooms to Go in Ocala along with a free adjustable bed platform. No problems with Rooms to Go. Good service. Very happy with both beds.

Vibe 12 inch Gel Mattress from Amazon. Thousands of reviews, 4.5+. We have one, and recommended it to our kids and in-laws. Great mattress, great price, delivered to your door. We put a topper on it just because we like more loft, but not necessary if you don't want that. Less than $500 for a king, last I looked.

We have had a Saatva mattress for 8 years. Our "luxury firm" mattress is dreamy.

Our luxury firm Saatva has no dips after 8 years and we are no light weights.
