Thanksgiving Dinner at Mallory Country Club

Wonderful experience at Mallory Country Club this Thanksgiving! Reservation at 1:00 pm seated promptly. The entire meal was delicious and the service efficient, and attentive. Portions were very large which made for 2 more meals that night! The turkey was exceptional with thick slices and wonderful flavor. We will return for other holiday meals -I highly recommend Mallory Restaurant.

You must have eaten a different Mallory Hills Country Club on Thanksgiving, than the one I ate at.

One poster on ND said that Mallory told them they would be serving real turkey, but, when they arrived, they were served processed and formed turkey instead. They were very disappointed. So, what kind of turkey did they serve?

Yes, I doubt you are going to get an answer….

I got a personal answer from Jack Suleman, telling me they cooked "real, whole turkeys".

They may have cooked whole, real turkeys, but that's not what I was served. I was served "processed, formed Turkey breast" and was told by the Server they were "only serving white breast meat".

I wonder what they did with the legs, thighs & wings of all those "whole turkeys" they supposedly cooked?

Bogie Shooter 12-08-2024 11:59 AM

Well, OP was happy……

Did he say where they cooked the whole turkey? And what happened to THEM? (I’m at Mallory and I’d so much like this place to be great.)

Bill14564 12-08-2024 01:25 PM

Yep, ToTV restaurant reviews - worth every penny you pay for them.

Me too, but it's never going to be with that particular operator.

Good question. I've never been in the kitchen at Mallory, but I think I've seen enough of it to know, cooking that many turkeys would be a problem.

The rule of thumb, is to plan 1 lb per person or 1.5 lbs per person if you're cooking whole birds. I was told by someone or read, that Mallory served 700 people on Thanksgiving Day.

That's a 1000 lbs of whole turkey or (50) 20 lbs Turkeys, at 4.5 hours/turkey (unstuffed freshTurkey takes about 13 minutes/lb.). No small task.

Seems not everyone agrees...

Interesting....I just read this post on Next door...Login - Nextdoor

We went to Mallory CC with 2 other couples for Thanksgiving and were very disappointed. After I made the reservations I asked them on 2 different occasions if they would be serving real turkey from a whole bird and they said yes. When we got our meal it was proccessed and formed turkey like they sell in the deli at Walmart. Very low quality and doesn't taste good. I sold food for SYSCO for many years, this type of turkey is low cost, low quality. We're regulars at Mallory and will continue to go there, just not for a holiday meal. That was just a money grab.

I agree 100% with the above, but the restaurant owner claims we're wrong. That reviewer said he sold food for Sysco. I ran a huge country club/event venue for a few years. We should have a clue.

Gaslighting?

Marmaduke 12-09-2024 06:29 AM

Check out all of their health and county infractions. Wish it wasn't so as we are right there too, but they even got dinged for adding a beer cooler to the outside seating area without license.

We took out family guests there in early November, (right before the numerous code violations were posted) and we were served Yingling Beer with ICE (oh my my!!) that was also flat.

Waitress said "Oh, okay, I'll get you 4 new ones from INSIDE."

Talk about TERRIBLE. ALL 4 meals were a disgrace.

I try to stay away from Turkey if you are eating out on Thanksgiving Day. It’s tough to prepare right at scale. This year, we had pecan crusted grouper at Glenview and it was absolutely delicious.

I've had 2 Thanksgiving Dinners at Palmer Legends (they were too busy this year) and it was spectacular, both times.

Turkey is actually fairly easy to prepare at scale, but you have to want to do a good job.

At one of our hotels, we generally serve about 1000 for Easter, 800 for Mother's Day and 800 for Thanksgiving. Thanksgiving is by far the easiest. Of course, we don't "plate" for events that large.

Bogie Shooter 12-09-2024 08:04 AM

“Our hotels”, would be ?

Rwirish 12-09-2024 08:13 AM

Wow, recently ate at MCC and it was terrible. The server was beyond terrible. Not going back for a holiday meal or any other meal.

MX rider 12-09-2024 08:38 AM

I was the one that posted on nextdoor about Mallory CC. Yes I worked for SYSCO for many years, the owner can say what he wants but that was not real turkey. Plus, most people can tell when its a formed and proccessed turkey breast. Taste was not good.
That's unacceptable for what they charged.

I sent an email to them but got no response. I had a polite conversation with the manager Saturday evening when we were there for dinner. She really had no idea what they served, thats what she said anyway.

I was lied to on 2 occasions prior to Thanksgiving when I asked about this and was told it would be from a whole bird.

I sold to restaurants that served the real thing on Thanksgiving. They just cook them in advance. Obviously the owner took the easy, low cost low quality route.

Velvet 12-09-2024 10:31 AM

Thank you for pointing this out. Maybe (hopefully) this practice at Mallory might change.

Thank you for posting this. I wrote a review on Yelp and was immediately contacted by the owner (I posted his reply in an earlier post here, but it might not be showing up). His response was: "We cooked whole turkeys and that's what you were served" and he wanted me to call him to discuss it.

As I mentioned in a previous post, I have some experience with this and the owner was flat out lying in my opinion. My response to him was: "No thank you, I'm not good with gaslighting".

Well it used to be part of a whole turkey until it was not.

fdpaq0580 12-09-2024 11:37 AM

Wouldn't turkey, processed or not, have to originate with the whole bird? Just pickin' nits over here, but "not real turkey" implies that it was some other meat, vegetable or concoction labeled "turkey" but with no actual turkey in it. Artificial. Tofurkey? If so, wouldn't that be fraud?

While going out for a holiday meal sounds great, there is almost always something that makes me wish I hadn't bothered to go out. For the holidays, give me a turkey burger or a hot ham and Swiss on sourdough, a cold beer and let me eat in peace in front of the TV. I'll give thanks for home sweet home.

BrianL99 - So did you call him as he requested?

Dusty_Star 12-09-2024 01:51 PM

Did anyone eat out on Thanksgiving at one of the other country clubs & were happy with the turkey they were served?

I did see the Glenview / grouper post, but I was hoping to find a bright spot in the Thanksgiving traditional fare.

Thanks!

HORNET 12-09-2024 06:56 PM

Last time we ate at Mallory’s for Christmas, it was like eating a glorified Swanson Dinner. But if it is like what I am hearing, then maybe I will give another try

I ate Thanksgiving dinner at Palmer Legends, in 2022 & 2023. It's not an exaggeration to say it was spectacular.

A friend of mine's family, owns Hart's Turkey Farm in NH. It seats 500+ people and has been a landmark for 70 years. They know how to do turkey. Palmer's Thanksgiving dinner was as good as any I've ever had at Hart's.

Ummmm, processed parts is parts processed turkey meat with instant fake mashed potatoes smothered in canned gravy. Homer Simpson’s favorite!

After he tried to gaslight me? I know what I was served and he claims I was served something different. There was no reason to call him.

We have lived here since 2007 and I have always liked Mallory as an option to the standard chain restaurants. Never expected or tried anything considered cuisine. Was somewhat used to their Sunday fried chicken dinner. Seems like chickens were getting smaller over the last two years. (apparently their supply of Chicken does not come from Sam's) Then got hooked onto their Saturday Hamburger special , Hamburger and a beer for $7,99. Great Burger and a good snack after golf.
Change of management, no hamburger, kitchen problems, and attitude change, and no longer a draw for us.

Their Faux turkey and apparent misleading claims regarding meals has caused us to cross off Mallory as our go to place.

Juniper 12-10-2024 04:36 AM

Turkey dinner @ MCC was on the daily menu until ownership changed. Read the tea leaves.

Sorry your friends were disappointed. We were there early and the turkey was thick, juicy and flavor filled - real. Sounds like things may have changed later in the day.

Must have run out of the real stuff and substituted deli meat. Just couldn't handle the volume. First seating got it all. IF (very big "if") I ever end up there on a holiday, I'll have a burger and fries. Even a lousy burger can be tolerated with enough mustard and catsup.

Or go very early, when they first start cooking.

This is why we feel it is better to do it ourselves. Go out for dinners regularly but not anymore on holidays
