So recently we have felt this December may have been the coldest since we lived here. That isn’t the case at all. 2010 was the coldest December EVER on record in Florida’s history. The average temperature was 63.1 for the month and the low was a Brrrr at 37.1.

Could we still set a record during all this global warming stuff?

It's 73° right now outside my house. And slightly humid. It's barely even sweater-weather.

Daytime temps will always be warmer because of this crazy thing we here in the Historic Side like to call "the sun." It's averaged over 70° for daytime temps all month.

It's been a beautiful day once again in The Villages. My favorite time of year down here. I wish we could have it 3 months out of the year instead of just a few weeks.

It snow lightly on the golf course in December of 2010. I took pics of the snow falling while spouse as teeing off. Lasted until it touched the ground. The first week of January of 2015 it snowed while we came down for 4 days to play golf.

Haven't run my heat yet. A little chilly at night. I love it. Helps me sleep better, and reminds me of Christmas up north. But not so much that I hate it. Winter in Florida is absolute heaven.

I am not triggered. Yet.

We were house-hunting in January 2010 and all of the water features at the rec centers were frozen solid, so they must have had several days below freezing - not seen it like that since

I don't miss months of icy cold and short days. I miss the experience of HAVING icy cold and short days though, if that makes sense. Distinct season changes. The experience of the freeze, then the thaw, then growth, then the preparing for the freeze.

I think ideally I'd love a place where you'd have a winter lasting just two months, with maybe a foot or two of snow total over that period of time. And summer lasting just two months, with that super hot, sultry pea-soup humidity lasting just a few days during that period of time. Autumn could last 4 months, with endless fall colors. And spring, the same.

Sadly no such place exists on this planet. But I'm okay with short bursts of cold. Bundling up, being cozy and appreciating being warm inside the house, maybe putting a pot of water with eucalyptus to simmer on the stovetop, tossing a log in the fireplace, and watching it snow outside. Heck even shoveling is fun if the snow isn't too deep and isn't turning to ice on your windshield.

Two years ago there were three days of deep frost around Christmas time. That was the coldest I can remember it getting in the Villages in the 10 winters we have owned a home there. The plants in our garden took a pretty serious hit during that stretch, but recovered over the last two growing seasons. If that’s as bad as it gets, bring it on.

I DO NOT miss waking up at 4am to plow out 50+ driveways in our old 'hood' up north. It helped send the kids to college, but was real blood money. No one really knows what I mean unless they've done it too. I'll put up with the 2 seasons we have here..."pre-heat and bake".

I've lived in The Villages since 2005. The low temperatures that we have been experiencing this fall are what we normally experienced in February of 2006, 2007, 2008. You obviously don't understand the term and concept of Global Warming/Climate Change. Do some legitimate research and stop parroting what you see and hear on propaganda cable networks. By the way, it has been lower than 37 degrees overnight this December.

It’s fun plowing for about the first half hour during the first storm of the season, after that the shine wears off very fast. In the Villages, the worst part about the couple of coldest days each year is that I have to flip up the windshield on the golf cart : )

Hopefully you understand not everyone agrees with their ever changing of definitions for convenience.

For instance the misuse of the term “climate”. Climate is a term used for “long” periods of weather. A long period isn’t defined of course. For one a long period could be a month, for the next perhaps a decade and so on.

Since Global Warming doesn’t fit the agenda, it has been changed to climate change…lol

I love the cold and the snow. I hate the salt, slush, and mud that accumulates. And it ain't a snowstorm unless it deposits over 3 feet of snow.

More like the name was changed to help those who honestly didn't understand that Global warming did not preclude a frost warming in the Villages. Unfortunately, those who intentionally choose to be misinformed chose to be misinformed on that was well.

Very simply (and I suspect you know this but since you are playing as if you don't): Global warming is causing Global Climate Change resulting in abnormal and severe weather events.

However, cold snaps in Florida, snow in Maryland, and even snow in Hawaii are uncommon but not abnormal or severe. On the other hand, sustained or frequently occurring events such as these might be an indication of climate change.

Clearly, that's being debated. There is a proven correlation between the increase of CO2 in the atmosphere, an increase in the rate of warming, and an increase in severe weather. Correlations are nice but proofs of causation are needed.

On the other hand, the deniers will point out that we are coming out of an ice age so warming is natural, that we are in a cooling trend, that CO2 is not increasing, but that the curren warming and increasing CO2 is what plants crave. Figuring out what some of the deniers actually believe is like nailing jello to the wall.

Lived in the Keys at MM24 Iguanas fell out of the palm trees and their was a huge fish kill in the canals in 2010 it was 44 degrees for 2 nights in a row it was cold and windy !!!!!!

Yes! I commented before I saw your post. It was 25° at 7am Christmas morning in 2022. I loved it since I’d never before experienced Christmas that cold having lived my whole life in SoCal. Hubby as a former Michigander did not love it as much as I did. 😊

1st winter here was 20/21. That year 10 days of temps under 40 before Christmas . 4-5 days this year so far. Weather patterns a little different.

Different strokes for different folk. In meantime, we go from 24 guys playing 18 holes in the winter and scrambling to get 8 guys together and play only 9 holes and dodge the rain storms

Warming makes things colder. It is because all the glaciers melted away in 2015. Al Gore would never have lied about that for financial gain, right?

I don't recall December of 2010....but I do remember December of 2009...1st yr here. It was said to be the coldest in history then. The cold continued for most of that winter (going into 2010). We tell folks if they want to visit us...the best weather times are Spring and Fall. Generally this is true but the seasons can vary just as they did "up north".

I might add....I don't believe in Global Warming but that's a whole other conversation.

I believe that was the year that we had over 20 nights 32 or below. In my 21 years in TV it was the coldest ever. They actually had boats in the ponds collecting all the dead fish because the smell was so bad. So much wildlife and reptiles were dying it was a disaster.

Modern day instrument measurements have only been available for about 150 years compared to Earth's 4.5 billion history. We will see many more Hot and Cold records in the coming years ... until the Bray and Eddy solar cycles begin their cooling phases (in about 100 years or so) - and then the Cold records will increasingly outnumber Hot records as we enter the next ice age (Milankovitch) Glaciation cycle. .......As far as Global Warming in the last 10 years goes, 95% of REAL climate scientists say that it is SETTLED Science and the problem is caused by the INFERNAL combustion engine (like the ones running around propelling the local golf carts) and in most cars and trucks.
..........Instead of my presenting a graph full of squiggly lines - I would ask you to picture a cartoon automobile with MASSIVE amounts of BLACK smoke coming out of the EXHAUST TAILPIPE. Then in your mind's eye put a GIANT X right over that automobile because there you have your cause of all the Global Warming. It is causing the water in the Gulf of Mexico to be so HOT as to cause 2 KILLER HURRICANES affecting Florida and the US last year. Remember them - next summer will be more DEADLY. The production of food in the US has been negatively affected, coral reefs are dying, and the world's oceans are rising. That is NOT a very pretty picture for the world's future.
.........The next picture that I would like to present, is an electric automobile that has ZERO exhaust. That pictured electric vehicle is the SOLUTION to the Global Warming problem. We can only hope and pray that people start buying them SOON in massive quantities before it is too late. I read that people in the Villages are buying Electric golf carts at a rate of 2 to 1 over gas golf carts. That gives ,at least, a small glimmer of hope for humanity!

First ... as you can see, sunspots did not cause the current global warming temperature spike, because there has never been a significant sunspot correlation with UAH temperatures. Second ... black smoke is not CO2, because CO2 is colorless, odorless, and tasteless. Third ... an updated CO2 talk, on Dec 19 at 1:30 PM at Laurel Manor, will illustrate that man-made CO2 warming is trivial and is becoming increasingly trivial as CO2 increases. Fourth ... since we are in a CO2 famine, increasing CO2 benefits earth's ecosystems -- since CO2 is plant food.

O boy! another climate change mindless debate, now I triggered. Back to subject how cold it’s been in villages recently. two and three years ago it got down to 26 degree at my location in villages two nights in row and below freezing two night after that frozen back all my tropicals 90% can right back. The other record since 2014 at my location since I been here was 28 and 29. But I am at very north ended villages. Now with that answered we can get back to or opinions on climate change. Yes the copper leafs are after they froze to ground.
