Lighthouse Bar & Grill Lake Sumter Landing

I'm looking for current information on The Lighthouse. The last we were there was years ago. Food was dreadful, served on paper plates and plastic dinnerware. Service not much better. We have never returned. How is it now? We were gifted with a generous gift card for the restaurant. If its still dreadful I feel so bad for the person giving it to us. They don't live here and have no way of knowing good or bad.

Go and enjoy!

Excellent fish and chips. Good vibes there… good family owned restaurant. Lobster dinner for less than $20! Can’t get that in New England! Enjoy!

All of the paper and plastic ware has been long gone from the Covid era. Give them another shot and enjoy our visit together without prejudgments. Remember that the winter visitors are also here regarding seating and service. Maybe start with a nice lunch during the slower hours for a start.

Hmm, so much to say about that post, but I’ll keep it short. You caution about not having prejudgements. Then you prejudge Villages homeowners/residents as “visitors” because they aren’t full timers?

That person was simply saying to be warned that it could be crowded during the busy months. How did you see it any other way???lol

My only suggestion, unless the atmosphere has altered dramatically since we last ate there, is to wear ear defenders.

vintageogauge 12-19-2024 09:18 AM

You will get exactly what one would expect for a meal under $10.00 in TV. Unlike many of the other restaurants on the squares they have been there a long time so must be doing something correctly.

If it worries you that much please DM me with your address and I'll unburden you of the gift card. Consider my random act of kindness that I take it off your hands. I won't even charge you for my time.

michgary 12-19-2024 08:27 PM

i'll pay you 5 for that gift card,, lets get this going,,, and pic it up tooo... :jester:

Kelevision 12-20-2024 06:11 AM

I was only here one time a couple of years ago. The food was not good, paper everything. The cocktails, not good. The view, fantastic.. what a waste of space… literally…

Lighthouse

Good experience

wincherr 12-20-2024 07:18 AM

We ate there last month. Great service and good food. Packed, but it was a Friday night at 6pm.

ohioshooter 12-20-2024 07:31 AM

Do they still have the lunch specials. Especially the $6.99 fish and chips.

USOTR 12-20-2024 07:31 AM

Try it again

We had a wonderful lunch. Good food at a good price with great service.

DianeP 12-20-2024 07:36 AM

We ate there last month and several times over the summer. Everything was excellent and no paper products were used.

tedquick 12-20-2024 09:01 AM

I eat there every 2 or 3 weeks and find it quite satisfactory. Of course, the location is unbeatable.

RDulac 12-20-2024 09:47 AM

Been there recently. Much better than before. 👍

lpkruege1 12-20-2024 01:35 PM

You can PM to me and I will gladly take that dreadful gift card off your hands. Wife and I have devoured their consistently good shrimp baskets, fish and chips, and frozen piña coladas while watching sunsets and taking lunchtime breaks from browsing along the square. Don’t waste your time there; simply help me enjoy my time there in the holiday spirit! All kidding aside, yes, go there and enjoy a good meal and a relaxing time on the waterfront.

kcrazorbackfan 12-20-2024 07:11 PM

Good lord! What is the deal with eating off paper plates with plastic utensils? It doesn’t diminish the quality of food.

There was a time in history, when eating off paper plates at a restaurant, was considered a luxury.

Fortunately, it only lasted about 5 months and then the Covid nonsense ended. Now folks can eat at restaurants with real plates and silverware, as god intended.

Reading this thread and hearing folks praise the food at the Lighthouse, explains a lot.

mikempp 12-20-2024 08:30 PM

We stop up and get a sandwich and fries to go every now and then (with our dog on leash), all have been very tasty.

I can't afford to go back to New England for a hot buttered lobster roll, fresh-caught steamers (little-necks) with broth and clarified butter, whole-belly fried clams, or any other New England seafood. Lighthouse is the closest thing *accessible by golf cart* to it. That and waiting for Cousin's truck to come to an event at the squares so I can get the lobster roll (for $24, for JUST the roll, no fries, no drink, no slaw).

It's sort of like getting a pizza around here. Our options are limited and the quality can't be matched, so we have to decide to either get the least offensive available, or do without entirely.

So far, my only REAL disappointment with Lighthouse so far has been that they don't make their own tartar sauce - it's Kraft single-serve cups, and they charge extra for a second.

justjim 12-21-2024 12:48 AM

Given the location and photos taken while watching the sunset at the Lighthouse restaurant the food quality is hardly a serious issue. Having said that, when you pay the tab how can you make a serious complaint about the food or the service. It’s all good.

michgary 12-21-2024 04:15 PM

ok $25 and i will come pick it up ,,. no questions asked

:highfive:

Ate there recently, food was good. Service was slow as was delivery of food but being retired and having nothing else to do I enjoyed my time with company and the view.

LOL! complaining about free money! never amazes me about those who complains about gifts, complain about restaurants because they are different than where we came from. . . could be the time you went was a bad day, could be the season, the year, could be you don't like southern influenced seafood. . its definitely not the same as northern influenced seafood.

You can go or not, its up to you.
You can like the restaurant or not, its up to you.

If you don't want to go, do an exchange for cash and go where you want. . .

And don't worry, as you get older you lose your taste buds's abilities anyway.
