I’ll remember him for Billy Beer and the “Carter Quarter” Susan B that is now worth 5.54 because of inflation. At the time he was elected, American wanted anyone on the planet besides Nixon’s Ford. By default he won and he kept us out of conflicts when we were so war tired from greedy LBJ’s mess. What was the lesser of two evils turned out to be a gem in the rough.

He was a decent President - who was up against some insane challenges that happened while he was President, but not "because" he was President. He handled some of them well - such as ending the war between Egypt and Israel, strengthening America's position against Russian nuclear weapons. Some not so well - he and Congress had a tumultuous relationship and he often would snipe at them. He floundered during the Iran oil strike/energy crisis/inflation, which culminated in one recession caused by the Federal Reserve's monetary policies. Then a second recession caused by a shift to another extreme set of policies by the Federal Reserve. In other words - it happened on Carter's watch. But Carter didn't cause it or create it. He just got stuck holding the bag, so to speak.

But he was one of the Great Humanitarians of the last century, beginning in his childhood during Segregation, when he defied his father's wishes and befriended black workers on the farm - and worked WITH them because he considered himself to be their equal, not their superior, throughout his life serving his local community, and post-Presidency continuing his peace missions and direct personal involvement in Habitat for Humanity, even into his 90's. He was a life-long servant of the people.

I give him credit for having the stones to approve Operation Eagle Claw (Delta's mission to rescue the hostages being held in Iran). Contrary to popular belief, the members of Delta did not "fail" - they never got the chance to carry out their mission, due to aircraft-related problems/tragedy at the Desert One staging area.

Well said. Got some nice responses from him and his wife to my various letters about different topics. He loved humanity. Often a hard thing to do. He and his wife did it with great grace.

I was in military while he was president, couldn’t get 15 cent O-rings or 5 dollar gaskets to build jet engines, couldn’t meet our war readiness spares so we were on 12 shifts 7 days a week twiddling our thumbs for months. This was right after Vietnam war and every B52 engine had to be completely rebuild due to salt air rotted out stator compressor vanes. There reason he lost. Personally I think he’s not bad person just il informed with other priorities and military wasn’t one of them IMO.

Due to problems, he created by not supporting the Shah of Iran and not adequately maintaining the military.

He was by far, the most incompetent President of the last 50 years.

After 2 years of bungling the Iran Hostage situation, it took Ronald Reagan only a few hours to have the hostages freed.

He gave away the Panama Canal, after campaigning on a platform that aggressively condemned any plans to give up the Canal Zone.

Then he was one of the few former Presidents who actively sought to undermine subsequent Presidents, with his constant meddling in foreign affairs.

Of any President in the last 50 years, he was the one most disliked by the agency we pay to protect our Presidents.

His legacy is that of a bumbling fool, who was only elected because the prior President couldn't get elected dog catcher, after his short term in office and pardoning of Nixon.

He is ranked around 24th of 46 Presidents by historians. And he had little power to interfer in foreign affairs. He also liked to interact a lot with regular people rather than rich people and foreign leaders. Probably a headache for the Secret Service with him building homes for people with next to nothing around the world.

A great man after being a mediocre POTUS.

Oh, I think he was a close second to the Clintons Cabal.

All I remember of Jimmy Carter, was waiting in the gas lines in 73.

I will usually not speak ill of the dead but this time cannot hold my tongue.

Presided over the worst inflation of my lifetime. Incredible high interest rates.
Long long gas lines.
Bungled iran hostage situation which was solved in a few hours by President Reagon.
The american people recognized what a disaster as president he was and lost reelection in a landslide.
He became a very outspoken anti Semite in his later years and for that he is unforgivable in my mind.
Worst president in my lifetime.

President Jimmy Carter will be loved and admired by future generations. Especially for what he did since leaving office.

I saw Reagan speak at the University of Nevada, Reno. A man of wit and substance. And great at talking to people. And for the most part an honest and honorable person. He could have won against almost anyone.



Jimmy Carter did great things after leaving office. A lot of other Presidents never did much of anything great at any point in their lives.


I believe he was fighting for the rights of all parties in the mess in the Middle East. Very hard to do without angering someone.

they got elected to highest office and most powerful person in world. Some people never had job or could hold one in their life. I’d say they done pretty good?

There have been some very corrupt and criminal Presidents of the United States .


And I personally have been nominated to 24 Marquis Who's Who volumes while doing my hobby of helping survivors/victims of crimes get access to practical information. No one was paying me to do that. Like Jimmy Carter I was doing something because I could make a difference.
