Micro Racetrack Road

I don't get out much but have occasionally ridden along the oddly name stretch known as Micro Racetrack Road. I've been intrigued by the numerous sets of mounds of light colored dirt that I didn't recognize. Finally remembered to try googling to see if I could get to the bottom of the mystery (to me).

My description led me to pics that led me to conclude that they are most likely southeastern pocket gopher mounds. Had never heard of them. Ran a "search" here on ToTV and found several references to the critters, but none related to that stretch of road. Reading those postings in reverse chronological order ultimately led me to a dern pic concerning an alien abduction posted only last month by SHIBUMI! Had a tennis shoe sitting by one, apparently near a golf course. I had failed to relate it to those occasionally noticed (and immediately forgotten) Micro Racetrack Road (I love typing that) mounds. Airstreamingypsy had already ID'd them as pocket gopher mounds. I am so relieved. I guess I have a bit of "naturalist" in me.

I pronounce it "Mike Rowe Racetrack Road". My wife tolerates my 'witty' sense of humor.

Want I should speak to her?

Well I hadn't thought of that! Not sure what you're going to say or her response, but it would be fun finding out!

Adjacent subject......
On the west side of Micro Racetrack road are a bunch of chairs in a treed grove. Is this a church setting? a meeting place? Just curious as each time I drive on that road I've never seen anybody there.....But nearby, the keylime pie vendor is great!

What is the address of the key lime pie vendor? I’ve heard about it but not sure where to look. Are there signs or some other way to find them? Thanks.

I don’t know the address but he is about 1/4 mile from 466A on the West side of the road. There will be a sign if there are going to be pies on Friday. Take a quick ride up and see if the sign is out tomorrow.

He is the same guy who is often at the Brownwood farmer’s market Saturday.

I saw the sign last evening when I passed there.

Oh no, and here I've been pronouncing it "My Crow, 'Ray Strack', Rowed". In my defense, I AM a transplant (not to be confused with a trans plant).

He sets up Fridays on Micro Racetrack Road, about halfway between County Road 466A and Lake Ella Road

Or you can purchase Don's Key Lime Pies every Saturday at The Brown Wood Farmers Market.

Or contact him directly at 352-250-6023 for custom orders.

If you want to try before you by, stop by The Rose Plantation in Fruitland Park to get a slice off of the desert menu!

Hahaha! It would be far cheaper to skip the "try" and just buy a pie!

(I've heard the Rose Plantation is excellent but it is not inexpensive)

LOL - a slice is a little more reasonable for lunch.

Last time there, they sell the pie for $25 which will get you 6 slices in case you don't want to wait and hunt down the pie guy.

If you knew how easy it was to make this pie . . .

It's even easier to get one from Publix. Ten bucks and really good.
