Beware line cutters at Morse and 44

As many of us know, the wait to get through the intersection at Morse and Route 44 is a teeth grinder now, in all four directions, sometimes 5 light cycles to get through.

Twice now, waiting on 44 to take the left onto Morse, a couple of classy drivers suddenly cut in front of me to jump the line, when I had served my time and was one light cycle away from progress.

In both cases it was not a gee whiz on their parts it was a "stick it to you" move.

So now one is forced to minimize the gap between one's vehicle and the one in front, reducing reaction time in the case of some burp that needs to be responded to, to reduce the odds of some Yay For Me person jamming themselves in.

This situation will presumably get better temporarily with the Easter exodus north, but I expect will be even worse as time goes by. Morse is the only decent north / south artery in TV center. Buena Vista wanders about too much, Rolling Acres is truncated, 301 is too far west and 27/441 is too far east. So these vast numbers of folks being added south of The Bexley Bridge who want to go to their doctors up by BJs, will all be joining us.

In some instances our west side northward jaunt is 462 to 121, 120,117 Rainey Trail. It save a little time. Of course we almost always parallel 44 on 44a up behind Brownwood to get to Powell and cut out all the lights.

Hopefully this will be fixed before the new Walmart opens

Assuming left on Morse means North, you could try going up Buena Vista and cutting over on Odell circle or Stillwater Trail.

Pballer 02-24-2025 10:49 AM

There is plenty of room to add a right turn lane on Morse southbound onto 44 westbound right now. Morse northbound already has a right turn lane onto 44 eastbound. I don't understand what the issue is.

What really makes this intersection bad are people who feel like they need to leave a full car length behind the car in front of them at a stop light. You see this all the time at this intersection.

That is true and I agree. Now what does it have to do with what the OP posted?????

??? It looks like there is a wall, a water feature, and a signal light in the way of any right turn lane.

Is there significant right-turning traffic causing problems at that intersection? I've seen considerable left-turning traffic and a whole lot of straight traffic but not that many that turn right.

Wow, your mindreading must be working extremely well for you to know what other drivers are thinking.

vintageogauge 02-24-2025 01:01 PM

Meggison north into Brownwood, right after Cody's then north on Buena Vista and then any number of ways to get back over to Morse. Very little waiting time.

Right Turn Lane will Help

The suggested southbound Morse dedicated right turn lane will relive some traffic. Out of the 10 to 12 stacked cars in the current right lane, some seem to always turn right anyway.

For sure something needs to be done. The intersection is poorly designed for the new more permanent traffic volume. Is anyone expecting the traffic to magically disappear without action? Only if you believe in rainbow unicorns and fairy dust I suppose.

Doubtful. Any changes will likely require a traffic study to prove that something is needed and to determine what that something is. If you know a large store will soon open and you expect it to affect traffic then it would make no sense to perform the study before the opening.

My guess: a traffic study will begin about three months after Walmart opens. Promises will be made about improving the intersection. In about two years something might get better.

MorTech 02-24-2025 03:39 PM

That intersection is going to suck in perpetuity. Just wait til Walmart opens.
A Morse Blvd bridge over 44 would help but that won't happen.

Road-Runner 02-24-2025 04:09 PM

As mentioned above, just wait until Walmart opens, we'll all think back wistfully on how traffic was so much better before they put a huge box store right on top of a terrible intersection. Can't get city planning any better than that!

Both Morse and 44 will need to be widened eventually. It wasn’t that long ago that many said 54 couldn’t be widened, yet it was. Wesley Chapel is a different beast than Wildwood, but the solution remains the same. Especially if things are only guaranteed to get worse.

Maybe the traffic circles at Kristine Way needs to be eliminated? They could just put in a light.

LOL, just look at the thread where the OP asked a simple yes or no question that was answered correctly in the very first reply. There are now 2 pages and 28 replies from the folks who think they're comedians and aren't even mildly funny. Some people just gotta pad that post count. I'd be embarrassed to have as many posts as some on here. Talk about having no life!

blueash 02-24-2025 04:59 PM

I feel no need to tailgate the car in front of me to prevent the rare chance that somebody might add 10 seconds to a drive time. It is a choice. I have travelled this intersection dozens or even hundreds of times and TWICE I have had a line cutter. I did not get angry. Might have cost me a whole additional signal change if I didn't make the light. I will continue to allow space between my car and the one in front of me so that should I get bumped from behind I won't then hit the car in front of me. I don't consider road safety to be "serving time"

Deep breaths, repeat
