ZERO DAY with Robert Deniro on Netflix

Relevant today?

Accurate representation of today?

pretty good government thriller

Personally I will not view any more films with him involved in the production. And I believe that I’m not in the minority.

Haven’t watched it yet but plan to.

PorkChopExpress 02-25-2025 07:28 PM

so don't hate, nothing about politics, but I feel like he has only one note, a single character. not the great actor everyone says. I understand I am in the minority. to contrast the late Heath Ledger was great in roles.

wseward 02-26-2025 07:27 AM

I started watching it. Forced myself to get through 3 episodes. Not very good.

Maybe you haven't watched many De Niro films - as examples:
Taxi Driver
Awakenings
The Intern
Godfathers
Raging Bull
Meet the Parents
King of Comedy

How is that a "single character"?

I assume many of you are not going to watch his films because you don't like his politics. When are people not allowed to express their opinions? Who can? Sport figures, business people, people in any part of the entertainment industry - movies, tv, music. I suppose you allow people to express their opinions only if they are not made public or you agree with them..

He's a great actor. If you exclude all the actors who have expressed their opinions with which you disagree with you will miss out on some great performances. Your choice.

I agree. And I usually do not care about the personal lives of actors and actresses. Now if they support violence against others and then that very same person benefits from that bloodshed. That is another matter.

I won't watch it either. I'm too busy composing my weekly 5 major accomplishments.

So is Kevin Spacey, and I love watching Kevin Spacey act his parts. . .

I don't follow personal lives of actors / actresses to decide to watch a movie/show or not. . acting is about making believe you are someone you are not, and if you do a good job of it, and a really good job of it, you get paid well. . . all of them. So its make believe entertainment for me, without judgements about the characters, just like a football game. Is it the quarterback or the plays the coaches are calling. . . I can't tell the difference. .

But whatever. .

I thought the movie / show was eerily too similar to what's happening today in politics. . written/released prior to this calendar year, and the house members had the same beliefs as many in power do today. .

But whatever. .

BUT, I just finished it. A "C" at best. NOT GREAT AT ALL.

I watching the series “hell on wheels” on paramount plus. Lots of good series on paramount plus IMO.

That's a really good series. I was in contact with one of its actors for years on Facebook. :BigApplause:

Cuervo 02-27-2025 04:17 AM

There are a number of postings stating they will not watch anything that he is in.
This I'm assuming because of his political views.
I watch movies because they are good, I do not restrict myself because any actor in the project does not agree with my views.
You do realize he is not going to know if you are watching something he is in or not and are just depriving yourself.

I concur. No way will we watch anything with De Niro.
Saw everything he ever did before he went off the deep end anyway.

As started earlier, there's no place in my world for DeNiro.

However, I just saw very sad Breaking News about a favorite actor of ours:

Legendary actor Gene Hackman, wife Betsy and dog found dead inside New Mexico home. No foul play.

Successful boycotts, as well as tariffs, are so rarely successful on any sort of a large scale that they are all to often wasted efforts for me.

I'm not here to change your mind, but over the years I've had many close friends who were either homophobic, raciest, antisemitic and didn't have views that were lined with mind and I still considered them my friends. I believe if you isolate yourself because your personal beliefs do not match with others, you're doing yourself a disservice. You're not only shutting yourself from half the population, but you'll never be open to examining if your views have any flaws. If you don't watch De Niro's movies because you don't like his acting, I get it, but if it's because he does not follow your beliefs, I don't get it.

rsmurano 02-27-2025 07:55 AM

I will never watch anything that has this clown in it. Everytime you watch 1 of his movies, you give him more money so he can continue on his worthless rants

Agree. You can sadly tell the ones who believe in free speech, the bedrock of democracy. In the end it is their loss.

Whether he knows or not the better his movies do the better for him. Therefore why should I pay to see one of his movies putting money in his pocket and in effect supporting his views which we take exception too.

Lots of ways to entertain ourselves, not the end of the world to skip his shows.

Bill14564 02-27-2025 10:22 AM

Why does anyone pay any attention at all to what an actor says? I watch a movie for the characters in the movie, not the actors portraying them.

You don't like what he says? Don't support his causes.
You aren't going to pay to see one of his movies so you don't put money in his pocket? The possibly hundreds of others whose income depends on that film certainly won't thank you for taking money out of their pockets because of your political views.

Basically, I HATE to know ANYTHING about the actors in movies that I watch. For example, I liked "The Expanse" and I did NOT recognize any actors in that series. Robert De Nero has been in many good movies and some very mediocre movies. Rotten Tomatoes gave "Zero Day" a marginal rating. I will watch it, but I would be surprised if it is GREAT.

Ted’s wife speaking here: I do not watch his films or TV shows any longer. Same with Alex Baldwin (and I really loved him in The Hunt for Red October)

I find both of them to be so filled with anger and divisive language in general that they tend to be more of a distraction than attraction to their body of work. Before I offend too many, I will state that I fall into the category of people that will not allow “actors” to be my go to for information or how to think. Of course I feel the same about the “news/media”. I still have anger to the News Anchor that once said in a commercial, (summarized) “we don’t need to figure out the news and what it means - WE will tell you”!
