gators and golfing

PGA golfer Billy Horschel pushed a gator back into a pond this week with his wedge at the tournament in West Palm Beach. Has anyone had any experience with gators while golfing in the villages?

experience?
meaning like, your golf ball lands within 5 ft of a gator sunning himself to stay warm?
or
experience in like wrestling the ball away from one?

not sure for what kind of experience you are looking?

golfing lost ball or steve irwin style?

michgary 03-02-2025 10:13 AM

It would seem poking a gator with your golf club IS NOT a good idea. You can get away with it 10 times in a row,, and then uh oh .. #$%^&*:@#%%

justjim 03-02-2025 10:22 AM

They say a gator is faster than you for the first 20 yards. Stay away from them for sure. Forget about a golf ball that is close to a gator period.

MrFlorida 03-02-2025 10:31 AM

My experience with gators is to stay far away ..........

HELL NO! I paid $1.25 for that ball back in 2019. It's like one of the family. I'll save you little Bally Wally Woo! 😱😮🥹

DonH57 03-02-2025 12:12 PM

Can't say I have. The only encounters I've had with them is they usually ignore you or when they see my fat ass they slink off because they just lost their appetite!

Stu from NYC 03-02-2025 05:29 PM

Rumor has it that many are scratch golfers

Playing with Gators

Never play with a gator for money. They cheat and leave a mess in your golf cart.

Remember, they are more afraid of you than you are of them (99% of the time). The other 1%, well just ask Chubbs Petersen ( from "Happy Gilmore"):1rotfl::1rotfl::1rotfl:

I only have to run faster than one other person in my group, I don't have to run faster than the gator....

Kind of depends on how many of your group is with you by the gator, who is the closest, and who is the fastest runner:crap2:

Billy Horschel was just trying to speed up play. Just rub the gator’s belly. No problem.

If you want to see gators during golf, go to Deer Island in Tavares.

Anyone remember Cody Gribble slapping an alligator’s tail at Bay Hill 4 or 5 years ago?

Yep. I counted 8 on Riley this past saturday. Each one bigger than the last. There are no small gators on Riley. Man I love that track.

michgary 03-03-2025 03:53 PM

Thanx wont be playing Riley, now thats a real "penalty area" ,, I dont hit it too straight

Is that why we do not see him anymore?

asiebel 03-03-2025 06:35 PM

A few years ago, I was walking down a little hill on one the Champion Courses, to pick up my ball when one appeared. I got up that hill sooo quickly! It came out of the water but did follow me! Saw many alligators on the championship courses, but don't remember any on the 9 hole courses!

Bwanajim 03-03-2025 09:01 PM

Not on the golf course, but on one of the walking trails. There was a four or five footer on the trail. I had to go up and nudge his tail and body with my foot a few times again to go back to the water.
I was afraid he'd bite one of the little dogs
I used to harpoon gators off my airboat in Fort Lauderdale for years, so I'm pretty familiar with them and comfortable

michgary 03-03-2025 09:20 PM

gators are millions of years old,, you are not familiar with them , but good luck ,,

Last seen the following week retrieving his ball

opinionist 03-04-2025 07:38 AM

You have to play the ball where it lies, even if it lands next to a gator.

Do you have to take a penalty if you wish to drop another ball? Asking for a friend.

Yes. But the penalty for not dropping another ball is much more severe 😂😂😂
