Lost our cat today 1/31

We are having some tiling done in the house and the door was inadvertently left open today and our cat has taken a walk. He's an orange short hair cat with a white chest and is a big fella weighing in at about 15 lbs! We live on Kittredge Loop in Briar Meadow and I'm guessing he may not have gone far and has found a quiet place to sleep! His name is d"Artagnan - not sure if he knows that. If anyone sees him please call Allan or Jocelyne at 693-2078. Please don't chase him.

starflyte1 01-31-2011 06:47 PM

I'm sorry to hear that you cat has gone for a walk, but, hopefully, if you leave a door cracked open for the next few days, he will return home. A vet told our neighbor to do that, and it worked. Good luck!

BowleesCreekYachtClub 01-31-2011 06:51 PM

Thanks - we have a door open for him. We have a notice up at the mail box center, called Community Watch and WVLG. Unfortunately it appears that someone chased him while trying to catch him and I'm hoping he hasn't gone too far. So we think he'll be OK - but you do get attached to the darn things and worry about them!!!!!

redwitch 01-31-2011 07:01 PM

Leave an open can of tuna -- the smell may get him home (seems to work better than cat food). I hope he comes home soon. I know how gut-wrenching it is to have one stray, even for a short time.

Pturner 01-31-2011 09:20 PM

Oh Bowlees,
I'm sending a virtual hug, along with prayer that he'll find his way home. Please let us know.

If you need help looking for him tomorrow, please let us know. What village are you in?

Floridagal 01-31-2011 10:19 PM

Hope your cat returns. I have two cats and if they wondered off I too would be upset. Leave out the tuna and we should come back.

BowleesCreekYachtClub 01-31-2011 10:45 PM

Thanks for all of your suggestions - there is now tuna outside the front and back door! We live on Kittredge Loop in Briar Meadow and have several of our neighbors looking. Of course another pair of eyes would not hurt but to be honest we feel quite sure he's found a warm spot for the night or someone has taken him in. I'm thinking that with the notice up at the mail box that if we hear nothing after mail time tomorrow then we should start to worry. Thanks for all of your kind suggestions.

With open cans of tuna by your doors, you will definitly have a cat by morning. It may not be your cat, but it will be a cat...or a dog...or Fumar.

I am sure your little one is having a ball hunting critters outside and will come home from his little vacation soon!

jebartle 02-01-2011 05:57 AM

Here kitty kitty kitty...

Hope he returns home safe and sound......The tuna should certainly help..

redwitch 02-01-2011 06:25 AM

It really isn't all that uncommon for a cat to stray for several days, so don't give up hope. If he's healthy, he should be okay, especially since he's a big guy. The beautiful weather may keep him out a bit longer.

I had one cat that was a great escape kitty. I would leave the garage door open about 6 inches and the laundryroom door open. Sooner or later, his majesty would come in -- usually in the middle of the night and sopping, wringing wet. He would pr9mptly jump on the bed to let me know he was home and to give me the pleasure of drying him off (after he soaked me and the bed, or course). Hopefully, your guy will be kind enough to come home nice and dry.

graciegirl 02-01-2011 07:22 AM

I have had cats all of my life and never once did an escape artist not return.

I am hoping that you will be petting that pretty kitty very soon.

Keeping my paws crossed.

Sending hugs.

Latest news is that he spent the night in a neighbors garage - about 10 houses away. He ran out when they opened the garage door this morning. We walked around but haven't found him but knowing he is that close after a night out we fell confident he'll turn up today. We'll keep you all posted.

Good luck. Sounds like he is close by. Our cat would often bring back gifts for us after out wandering like a live bird that then flew around the house and eventually left via the chimney.

duffysmom 02-01-2011 11:09 AM

I've mentioned this before and it has worked for me and others. In the evening or early morning before the noise of the day begins, walk around and call his name. My lost kitty was close to home but was too fearful to come out and when all was quiet I called to her and heard a small meow. I did this for a few days so please do not give up hope.

Tom Hannon 02-02-2011 11:52 AM

Any word on the missing cat. The post hasn't had much activity today. Just wondering. If nothing else, it might be a good idea to renew the awareness.

nanci2539 02-02-2011 11:53 AM

Duffysmom is correct. Once the noise simmers down at night (cars, golfcarts, etc) take a flashlight and walk around calling his name (in a soft voice). If he likes treats, take a bag with you and shake it. Walk around where he's been spotted and ask your neighbors to check their garages. if he's in a garage, don't open the door - the noise will spook him.

Good luck; he's a handsome kitty.

graciegirl 02-02-2011 02:21 PM

Hoping to hear joyful news.

StarbuckSammy 02-02-2011 03:41 PM

The Villages radio

Please call The Villages radio station and report that your cat is missing...they announce it hourly...beautiful cat.

RichieLion 02-02-2011 04:11 PM

You have a beautiful cat. I can't tell in the picture if he has a collar and identification on, but I just would like to remind everyone that identification on your pet is invaluable. This way someone who finds your lost loved cat can return him. If he doesn't, they might just keep him, especially if he's as lovable as he seems.

Please keep a collar on your pet and an ID tag with your name and address on it.

Also; post a flier at every mail drop you can and, like advised, notify the radio station.

Barefoot 02-02-2011 05:37 PM

Good luck, I hope your cat has returned. If not and you want my help looking, please PM me and I'll be there.

BowleesCreekYachtClub 02-02-2011 06:14 PM

No - there is no news. Picture and notice posted at the Briar Meadow mail drop and will put another at the Springdale mail drop in the morning. WVLG is broadcasting our problem, we walk around in the early morning and late evening as it is getting dark. We have many neighbors alerted to the situation and there has not been a single sighting - which we find strange. We have checked with Marion County animal services who use "petharbor.com" to list all of their foundlings - what a wonderful organization that is. We are trying all of your ideas - the tuna at the door was very good, our neighbors came over with a box of crackers and ate it (just kidding). Neighborhood watch is alerted. Thanks for all of your help - it is greatly appreciated.

redwitch 02-02-2011 06:50 PM

I know it's hard, but hang in there. Odds are he will come back in a few days. The biggest worry is a car or a predator and he's big enough and healthy enough that a predator is a slight risk.

I don't know if you were around when someone lost their cat on the historic side. They and their kitty were new, so the cat did not know his surroundings at all. Worse, they were leaving in a few days. Their cat was missing for 7 days. He came home the day before they left (if I remember correctly). We were all cheering!

The odds really do favor your mouseketeer (pun intended) coming home safe and sound in a few days.

starflyte1 02-04-2011 06:42 PM

I am still waiting for the good news that your cat has returned. Don't forget to leave a door open and the tuna ready.

Taj44 02-04-2011 06:59 PM

We're all rooting for you and your kitty. Good luck!

No news to report but we are going to the Marion County animal services today.

Larry Wilson 02-05-2011 08:08 AM

Good Luck

I was so hoping that you had found your cat. Feel free to ask us to go out and look...

graciegirl 02-05-2011 08:10 AM

Did you call the tile guys? Maybe the cat jumped into their van?

HawkeyeBarb 02-05-2011 08:25 AM

Our cat Muffin and I am hoping your handsome fella' is found soon! Gracie's suggestion is a good one...he might have stowed away in the tile worker's vehicle.
Good luck finding him.

Taj44 02-05-2011 08:41 AM

I know you've alerted some of your neighbors, and have a sign at the post office, but its possible some neighbor hasn't noticed the sign or heard about the cat, and has your kitty inside. Have you gone door to door? Maybe make up a flyer and put in people's driveways? My friend lost a cat a number of years ago, and finally noticed the cat living in someone's house about 2 blocks away!

BowleesCreekYachtClub 02-05-2011 11:03 AM

Went to Marion County animal services and he is not there - but I wanted to bring them all home! With no sightings at all there is a good chance he has been taken in. The tile guy has been here every day this past week, he's a cat lover and is upset too. I'll make up a flyer and go door to door - it's a good idea. I'll keep you posted. Thanks to you all

BowleesCreekYachtClub 02-05-2011 02:12 PM

d'Artagnan was found at 1:55pm this afternoon in the back of a cupboard in a neighbors garage. We are very happy and would like to thank all of you who responded so kindly and positively to our "lost cat" thread.
Love you all.
Allan & Jocelyne.
