Permanent Closure of C 470 at Marsh Bend Trail
 

Travelers are advised that C 470 connecting to Marsh Bend Trail will be permanently closed to through traffic beginning March 24, 2025, as part of a planned construction project to improve roadway safety and traffic flow in the area.

Message boards have been placed in the area to notify drivers of the upcoming closure. As part of the project, a cul-de-sac will be constructed at the end of C 470, permanently restricting access to Marsh Bend Trail.

Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead and adjust their routes accordingly. Alternative access points should be used for travel in and out of the area.

Sumter County appreciates the public’s patience and cooperation as we work to enhance roadway safety and improve traffic flow.

Not sure how this is going to work out. Central Parkway is going to bear the brunt of all that additional traffic. Around that area, there were two ways to get to Marsh Bend Trail (and points east) from the west, now it's down to one.

What is the best route from 44/morse blvd to the turnpike and south to Orlando? Last week we took morse south to meggison to 470 and exit to the turnpike south. Meggison becomes two lanes past Sawgrass merging with golf carts which is mindful of north Morse from 466 to US 441. There must be a safer and faster route to the turnpike.

That's the route I would take justjim.

Crossing at the Bexley Bridge and taking Bexley Trail to Central Parkway while a little longer is 4 lane and about the same amount of time. A MMP keeps golf carts off that roadway.

Eventually, McNeil will connect to Central Parkway and looks like that could be a faster/ shorter route when open.

There was only one way before they built Central Parkway. Going back to one should not be an issue.

You mean except for the 20-25,000 new residents, right?????

Since the schools are right there will there be a 20 MPH School Zone put in on Central Parkway?

The school is not on Central Parkway, the family residential area is not across Central Parkway, and I don't believe there is any pedestrian access to Central Parkway so I would doubt it.

Well IMO looks like poor planning don’t it?. One would think before they built 50K plus homes traffic problems would have been high on list? I’m glad they moved high school down there relieved some of traffic at old location especially at lunch time on 466.:BigApplause: But, then there Costco going in :grumpy:

I don't have any numbers, but my gestalt is that COSTCO will generate more traffic than the schools did. Plus, the school traffic was essential high at drop off and pick up times, but COSTCO will be all day long---kids had a "turnover" time of 6-7 hours in class, while turnover at COSTCO is probably about 1 hour. But it would be much worse if both were there. Of course, we don't know the future plans for the school site.

The preschool is right next to Central Parkway, but I don’t think they let them run loose.

Homes are planned & under construction other side of Central Parkway.

Looks like there's already a 4 way intersection at Middleton Drive with crosswalks where there eventually will be a light.

That will not be a problem. Resident traffic is spread out throughout the day.

Not sure what you mean by "will there be". If it was needed, it would be there now.

However, since this is Middleton, populated by working people, there may be a "rush hour". Also, there is part of Middleton being constructed on the other (north) side of Central Pkwy., so a kiddie crossing and a 20 mph speed limits seems likely.

Truckers from 75 and the Turnpike have been using 470 for years as the straight path from Leesburg/27 to Rt 301 and Interstate 75. This was busy long before TV ever started down there. I would wait at the intersection of Marsh Bend and 470 for what seemed like an eternity to turn east or west on 470.

Now these truckers have circles to navigate and a bunch of retirees to deal with.

Drive any day in that area and tell me how many dump trucks and Tractor Trailers stay in their lane on the circles. We have enough issues with retirees not staying in their lanes.

It is very stressful navigating down there.

I use a strategy that motorcyclist use to keep safe on Central Parkway. In the straight areas, I punch-it to get away from the traffic to set myself up for the circles with few or no other drivers. I never enter a circle with a vehicle larger than my grocery getter.



For me, TV missed several opportunities below 44 — 1) No circle at Chitty Chatty, 2) No circle at Bradford, 3) no tunnel under Meggison at Sawgrass, and 4) the removal of the expressway for I75 and Turnpike traffic to navigate east and west on 470.


I live in the area and I work outside the home 5 days a week. These are my observations and opinions, for what it is worth.

I wonder who decided it was OK to change a through road to a slow speed residential convenience. 470 used to be a straight shot to 75. Now it’s a painful residential slow down.

Maybe the Wildwood Commissioners or maybe the Sumter County Commissioners after being presented with a plan to replace the empty fields the road traveled through with $1.2B(!) of taxable properties each year.

Getting way too big. Roads will not be able to handle all this traffic. Councils only look at tax money coming in

Not mentioned is the road just north of 470, which is 500 which connects to 470 will no longer exist to 470. So you can enter from Marsh Bend, but it will no longer be a thru street. One way in and one way out.

Any idea how they will handle the to/from FCC Coleman Training, the massive power station, and other properties that have entry points from 470?

I don’t understand how a permanent traffic light would not have solved the identified problem of getting the fire trucks out of the station when needed for an emergency.

I would like to hear from the folks up north if the work trucks and concrete trucks will subside after the new construction building moves to another location.

There is already a rush hour on Central avenue - it starts at 0730.

The work trucks and concrete trucks will subside but there are different dynamics at work below 44 so not sure there is a true comparison to what was to what will be. I find the lack of posts around the closing of 470 encouraging since it has been known for a few years that it would be closed, maybe a more informed resident base below 44?

No idea, and I don't need to have one. Some in charge of that needs to have it.

Other fire stations have no traffic light in front of them. Doesn't seem to be an issue.

The up north situation may not be the same, so I don't see how folks up north could predict with any accuracy.

Some of us have been anxiously waiting for that left turn to go away. It makes a mess of the Shady Brook roundabout as workers are traveling to and from job sites. Traffic will flow so much better.

I was told differently, do those in charge know for sure?

Interesting that the proposed map is just under 5 years old but it's already quite out of date as much of 470 will no longer be where it was on that map.
