A Post Office Pretty Please

Does anyone know if the Villages will get a full service post office anytime soon? We span 3 counties and have over 140,000 residents. Just one would do. Heck, it could even be way up in Sumter Landing, or even down by Marsh bend. Something needs to be done.

retiredguy123 03-21-2025 11:25 AM

Fruitland Park is pretty convenient.

asianthree 03-21-2025 11:25 AM

I highly doubt anybody on TOTV, has inside information about a new postal station. Given the continuing loss of federal employees I highly doubt it. Close to the northern and you have Lady Lake anex and a full post office, mid southern end you have Wildwood PO. Both are very accommodating and only seem to be long lines during Christmas holidays

VApeople 03-21-2025 11:27 AM

We live in Osceola Hills and we have 2 post offices near us in Fruitland Park or in Wildwood. We don't need any more.

jimhoward 03-21-2025 11:39 AM

I really like the post office in sumterville. Convenient location for me in the south, (4 miles from my house), never busy, does everything I need. The only thing you can’t do there is passports.

Stu from NYC 03-21-2025 11:49 AM

If anything post office is shrinking employment. Think what we have now works pretty well

Normal 03-21-2025 11:49 AM

Can you golf cart

Can one of those be accessed by golf cart? Is it by Walmart?

What is it that you need to do at a post office that you cannot do at a UPS store? It was explained to me extensively in another thread that the UPS store is more convenient than the USPS.

OrangeBlossomBaby 03-21-2025 03:57 PM

"The Villages" spans three counties. There can't be a Villages Post Office, because post offices are specific to the zip codes they're in, not the community. Next time, move closer to a post office, if that's a priority to you.

Meanwhile I can easily take my golf cart to the one in Lady Lake off Griffin Ave. Takes me 7 minutes by golf cart.

Topspinmo 03-21-2025 04:06 PM

Just do not stop by from 12-1 as they close for lunch. That’s changing with the times for you, LOL. Given the recent posts on the post office I think your suggestion is reverse of the changing times.

OP do you need to be close to apply for a job? Other than the need to Work at a PO i can’t think of a reason to stop by more than 3 times a year, unless it’s to say “HI” good job. Hope you are still open next month.

jimkerr 03-22-2025 05:18 AM

No. We have plenty of them already.

Carlsondm 03-22-2025 05:42 AM

We live down by the prison and have to drive to Fruitland for packages and signed mail. Wildwood is not our post office. It is ok now, but picking up medical supplies in 10 years will be a pain. The PO has been made less convenient over the years. One of those moves to squeeze the life out of public services and replace them with for profit businesses. I don’t think usps is a priority in FL

terryf484 03-22-2025 05:48 AM

There is one on 470, out the Villages gate from Meggison, right about a mile and a half.

The post office in Wildwood is very small and frequently has lines out the door. Around Christmans it is ridiculous. But with the spending cutbacks any improvements or relocation is highly unlikely.

All eBay shipments has to be through USPS.

On the plus side, business is booming at the UPS store in Pinellas Plaza.

No but there are postal stores at both Colony and Pinellas that are cart accessable who can do everything the post office can do and much more.

dewilson58 03-22-2025 06:27 AM

So many alternatives now.

USPS is not critical any more.

Cut mail delivery to twice per week per household, six days per week, cut staff in half.

No sure where you are in TV but my advise is just to Google USPS locations. Pretty sure you will find one near. Maybe not exactly inside TV but close enough.

DrHitch 03-22-2025 06:54 AM

There are multiple full USPS facilities in The Villages, but maybe none close to your location?

You can see the locations of the full post stations here
Map of Locations (selectable) - The Villages 101

Just pull down the filter selection list

Only one of those shown, the office on Lagrande Blvd, is even close to being in the Villages and even that one may be just outside. It does look like it might be accessible by golf cart.

daca55 03-22-2025 07:23 AM

With everything going electronically the PO is going the way of the phone booth. I doubt you will ever see a PO in the Villages and we will be lucky to keep those that are around us now.

Oxford and Wildwood on the west, LadyLake (x2) and Fruitland Park on the east, Summerfield to the north, and Leesburg to the South, not to mention Bushnell to the south west. Enjoy them while you can, before they’re privatized and sold off

Up here in Massachusetts the smaller post office locations with only 1 or 2 employees all close for lunch. But they are kind enough to close from 11-12 so that they are open during most workers regular lunch hours.

Normal 03-22-2025 07:51 AM

Thank You

Thank you everyone for all your responses to a myriad of answers. It looks like we will continue to go to the Wildwood PO for now. We can buy our stamps at Publix. Life is good in the Villages, you can’t have everything for sure:)

ehonour 03-22-2025 07:52 AM

As reported on BBC, Denmark is shutting down their PostNord post offices and all letter delivery as of the end of this year. As someone else posted, post offices are going the way of pay telephones. It's no longer a service people need.

Denmark'''s postal service to stop delivering letters

I clear out our mailbox twice a week, just to keep it from being crammed too full with ads, and rarely find anything that matters to me. I could do without.

Both a post office and UPS store are golf cart accessible near Spanish Springs.

Lesseburg main postal office on 441 south of 44 is convenient for south end.Lady Lake on 25 northern.

Bilyclub 03-22-2025 08:08 AM

Wildwood not very customer service orientated. Like Fruitland Park better.

Regorp 03-22-2025 08:10 AM

There is a full service post office on rt 301 between rt 44A and rt 466A near Ace Hardware.

GroupA 03-22-2025 08:13 AM

They are not post offices!

derkster 03-22-2025 08:23 AM

There is a U.S. Post Office in Wildwood on 301 in the shopping center where Ace Hardware is located.

UPS store is ok for some things, but can be expensive for others. Went there to send a small box of goodies and gifts for my son in Colarado. The UPS store wanted to charge $38. Took it the post office in Coleman and it was $16.
Half the price and the gentleman behind the counter was extremely helpful

I wonder why that is.
USPS reports $9.5B net loss in FY 2024, does not expect to hit ‘break even’ goal next year

The USPS is a nearly extinct beast. There will only be fewer, not more, physical locations.

Is it because we are all “small potatoes “ customers to UPS, yet a “huge” customer like Amazon can ship for fractions of cost up to your very doorstep? The Post Office of course also has other costs like shipping everywhere small customer or large, from Nome Alaska to a small town in Guam.

It is accessible by golf cart. There is an actual golf cart path leading out Tarrson Blvd directly into their parking lot. There is also a gate on La Plaza Grande further up leading in/out of Tarrson, and in from 441. You can also get to it over the golf cart bridge by taking a right at the dog park and riding past the waterfall on the MMP, and onto La Plaza Grande from there. In fact, if you live in the Villages NEAR the golf cart bridge, on either side, it's easier to get to the post office by golf cart than it is by car.

Just before the Villages were to cross CR44A, the developer offered property to the USPS. They politely declined.
