Yamaha Cart Recall
I drove by the Yamaha dealership at LSL this morning. Hundreds of carts lined up for the recall fix. On-line newspaper said 2-3 hour wait.
|
Yup , 20 minute line at 0830 for them to tell me it will be a 2 1/2 wait.
|
10 minute fix??
|
Can somebody provide information on the recall please…years, models, problems, etc.?

Recall Golf Car Accelerator Pedal Spring - Yamaha Motor |
3 years ago I broke an accelerator spring on my Yamaha. Walked into TV Golf Carts in SS said to parts counter I need one of these. Parts person comes back out with a beefer looking spring. I question this don't look like the right spring. Response - Yamaha has a recall on this spring - no charge sir. Given this was 3 years ago I myself wouldn't be in a rush to be standing in long lines.

I went to the Brownwood "event" a couple weeks ago and found it to be very efficient. Two lines feeding four technicians. At five minutes per cart that would be something like 50 carts per hour. If there were truly hundreds of carts in line it could easily become a two hour wait. |

Bought my cart from Country Village Power Equipment. Great service, they came to my house and replaced the accelerator return spring in my garage. It took less than 10 minutes.
|
The recall replacement at Sumter Landing was full at 10:30 and not accepting any more people today. Will be back there on Friday and again next Tuesday. Gentleman told me you can also wait and have it done when your cart is serviced.

Is there a list of locations and days that this work is being done?

A couple of things: 1. The repair takes less than ten minutes so if that is the only reason the cart is being serviced then a loaner would not be offered 2. The repair being performed at Sumter today (and other locations on other days) is for any Yamaha cart subject to the recall regardless of where it was purchased (mine was not purchased at Villages Golf Carts and that question never came up) |
Closed.
At capacity..............taking no more carts today. |
Seems to me they will have to have schedule more recall repair days than currently offered.

I'd just as soon do this myself. Would like to know if there's a detailed how-to video on YT and where I can procure the replacement spring.

- Pull up the floor mat - Remove the cover by the pedals - mine wasn’t fastened in any way, it was just sitting there - Look for the spring that pulls the accelerator back - that is the spring to be replaced - The replacement is designed a bit differently to avoid the wear and stress problems but looked simple to install |
This AM at Sumter Landing
I was in the recall mess this morning. I arrived at 8:30 AM. They said it would be a 3 hour wait and it was. Apparently people started lining up at 6:00 AM. They had 4 lines with several technicians working on each line. Even though they say they are open from 7 to 2 they closed the line at 11:00 AM. They said they will be doing this all summer long every 2 weeks. I heard many people saying that they were snowbirds and were getting this done before they leave for the season. Bring a book.

They don't want to choke their maint shop. |
Are they checking serial numbers?

They were definitely scanning serial numbers after they finished. My guess is as proof to Yahama that they completed the work.

From what I can see, it looks like this recall affects limited serial numbers on units built from 2016 to 2022.
I’d appreciate if someone would let me know if I’m wrong on this. |

It seems that there is a 1% chance that the accelerator spring might fail. I'm waiting for the panic to subside before I go. My buddy sat in line for 15 minutes before his 10-minute fix. Remember, any dealer service will flag the outstanding recall like a car would. |

I arrived at 10am and I couldn’t believe the number of golf carts in lines. I saw an employee and asked him where I should go and he told me they were not allowing any more golf carts to get in line and to try in another date. Think I’ll wait till the panic calms down.

For those of you that never uncovered the floor box. Here some photo’s I routinely clean out that area due to road dirt/sand get in there and grits moving areas up. As you can see there are 4 springs, large spring ( which probably the recall one?) switch spring, and small brake lever lock spring. The only spring I had trouble with with 20 Plus thousand miles in my cart was the brake release bracket spring. The end bend broke off so I had to re-bend the end and drill hole in brake lever to hold it in place. This area gets dirty and dirt causes excessive wear when parts move against each other on shafts. Why I clean it out every few months. I don’t use a lot of grease cause that collects the dust get hard and turns into sand paper.

Anyone ever notice some people cannot just answer a question with the answer, they have to add some snarky jane at the questioner when they do?
Any guesses as to what makes people choose rudeness when it literally takes more effort to be rude? |
Good luck….

Well now that everyone knows there'll be a line, I suggest turning it into a positive. I present to you:
The Recall Party! Bring a cooler, a bluetooth speaker, your favorite play-list, and dance the hours away. Play musical carts when it's time to move up in line. |
All times are GMT -5. The time now is 06:29 AM. |
