Gio's deli
Is it true that Gio sold his deli in Oxford, FL? If so, where did he go?
|
Uh oh. When they sold Giovanni the place was run into the ground very quickly.
|
Hope not
We hope not. Love the saltimbocca!
|
Even with Giovanni the place was hit and miss at times with service and being charged for menu items correctly.
On our last visit our bill was several dollars different than the menu prices and they said it wasn't their fault since they accidentally gave us the "old" menus. Even though by Florida law, a presented menu is a binding offer to a contracted price. The manager seemed to not understand or pretended to not understand what that means. Either way, we will likely never go there again due to the above experience. I'm sure we weren't the only ones. |
Roberto’s, run by his brother who was formerly the chef at Giovani’s is better.

Food is ok but the back room has horrible acoustics can hardly hear yourself think

It's totally illogical on their part. It's not the customers fault! GET rid of the old menu's. Thats a crazy excuse for a legit business, but mistakes happen, so they should've HONORED the menu prices and ditched the old menus. Best Practice, Keep the customers happy! |

So, yes... several dollarsPer entree... but the issue is~JUST present the correct prices to your loyal and valuable customers, right?! We've all noticed most restaurants which have had to raise their prices, after Covid hurt their businesses for so long. Many of us discovered, ( if we didn't already know), that we can make great meals to enjoy at home! Imagine! |

I heard a rumor that Gio's was coming to the new strip mall being built on Bigham Trail off Warmsprings between Fenney and DeSoto. Perhaps this can answer the OP on one of their questions, although I've seen nothing concrete on this... just a rumor.
|
I have dined in the back room more than once and always found it to be a delightful experience. The meal has ALWAYS been exceptional as well

Never, ever had a bad meal at Gio’s. Food is delicious.

That's not the ONLY reason some of us go out to eat!

Mesa Luna
Off topic but I stop at Mesa Luna once a week, sometimes just a cold one. Every time I stop by 5pm the place is full and stays till around 630. Never advertise. Pizza it’s the worst choice, dry and no flavor. Pasta is great.

That location would be interesting. Since Bingham Trail is 25 mph, that location could be golf cart accessible. |

There are things that can be done for this but seems like lots of restaurants will not make an investment to help accoustics. This is why we dont there in a good size group. We would make sure we were sitting in main dining room |
According to CHAT GPT, "As of April 5, 2025, there is no publicly available information indicating that Gio's Deli and Mercato in Oxford, Florida, is being sold. The deli, incorporated in 2016, continues to operate under the management of Giovanni and Julie Manco. Recent reviews from April 2024 reflect ongoing operations and customer satisfaction."
It appears there is no public records of a pending sale. |

Smaller rooms, drapery, carpet all help with "absorbing sound". But that "cozy" style restaurant is difficult to find here in TV. |

I run our Friday neighborhood offsite golf group. We would go to Gio's the first Friday of the month for lunch with a group of 10-15, and would reserve the back room. Everyone enjoyed the food and service, and lots of us would buy food to bring home (great bread and pastry). We plan on going again as a group when everyone returns in the fall. When we have the family come over, the kids always ask us to get a Gio's takeout pizza. I can't recall a better thick or thin pizza in this area
|
Have always had great meals at both Giovannys and Gios. Their pizza, by my account and many other reviewers, is best in The Villages. Many on this post talk about everything except the food and the service.
Just look at how busy they always are. |

Bingham is off limits (at this point) to golf carts. Most folks can’t drive 25 mph anyway. It’s single lane both directions. I don’t believe there is room to widen it for golf carts. |
Love Gio's!

Their signature Italian was no better than Subway. They have great meats in the case and cheeses. Go for those for sure. Too far for us in TV but Paul's Deli in Kississimme is great. Small hole-in-the-wall run by 3 sons and their mom. Nothing fancy but we gladly drove 45 minutes from west Orlando to go there 3-5 times a year. |
A few months ago, we ordered online from Gio's. There was a notice on their site that stated Gio's moving is a rumor. It went on to state that they will continue to serve as in the past, same hours, with no interruptions.

Only Nappolinos will serve bread with a crust. How does an Italian restaurant serve bread with soggy crust. Sad. |
