Oil Change

Did a search on TOTV, did not see an answer:

Is there anywhere reputable around here (including nearby outside bubble) to get an oil change for under $50?

What planet are you from?
The 49.95 oil change left the building years ago with Elvis.

justjim 04-24-2025 01:31 PM

The newer cars don’t need oil change ( usually) 8,000 miles or twice a year. My dealer charges less than $100 including tire rotation and the usual 20 point check. No, up charging or I won’t purchase there again and they know that. Several Threads on tire and oil changes you can check them out here on TOTV.

Check with Walmart

The most recent recommendations from individuals rebuilding engines suggest if you plan to keep the car over 80,000 mi, changing the oil & filter at 5,000 miles, particularly for smaller (2L) and any turbocharged vehicles.

This is due to the high turbo temperatures and smaller oil passages in those engines.

To the OP, Sumter Tire seemed popular in previous threads.

Stu from NYC 04-24-2025 02:18 PM

Worry first that you have an honest repair shop.

Toyota recommends we change our synthetic oil every 10,000 miles but since we plan to keep out car for at least 100,000 miles normally do it at 5000.

mbene 04-24-2025 02:22 PM

I change it when the car tells me too. Always Mobile 1 full synthetic and a bottle of Techron fuel system cleaner at each change. 1.4L turbo, 245,000 miles, runs great.

Last oil change 6 months ago UpNorth was $35. So I guess I'm from Earth, maybe just not Florida, Earth.

All the threads I searched were more about oil change intervals, not cost.

Walmart is good.
I watch for sales on their oil and filter to save a few $$$.
Store them at home, then have them change the oil whenever it's time.

That's pretty much what you'd expect to pay for just the oil and filter at your local big box store.

The last time we had Wildwood tire change our oil it was $60. Our new car came with a maintenance package so it gets changed for "free" now.

Sorry, that $50 will not even cover the cost of full synthetic oil and a new filter. As noted above many new (or newer) cars recommend oil changes at around 10,000 miles, much longer than the old regular oil at 3000 to 5000 miles.
I use Wildwood tire, and they are cost competitive.

sunnyFLORIDA5828 04-24-2025 03:46 PM

We had our ICE car, 2015 Mercedes, now have an EV and love it. But while we had the MB I did not want to cheap-out and every oil change was with Amsoil full synthetic. The best out there. Had it changed every year even if we did not drive 10 k miles. Peace of mind. Since the car was very expensive we wanted assurance the the lube system would be the best. Our last change, about Oct 2024 was $115. But glad we did that while owning the car, as the new owner knows how well we took care of it. Pays off. IMO

biker1 04-24-2025 04:33 PM

Yes, do it yourself. 5 quarts of Mobil 1 is around $28 (less $10 if they are offering a rebate) and a good quality oil filter is about $10. So, $38 (maybe $28).

Only way you’re going to get below 49 dollar oil change do it yourself. Other wise pay the piper and hope he does it right and good job? Plenty of oil change threads it you do simple search on TOTVs.

jimhoward 04-24-2025 05:06 PM

For my newer car I go to the dealer where oil changes were included with the purchase price. For my older cars I go to "Take 5" which is chain with four locations near the villages on 27. So it is very convenient. I don't know if I'd call it reputable, its basically high school kids changing your oil, but they seem to do fine. Its more than $50 though. They have various coupons and specials that can get the advertised price down, but in reality the cost is usually around $125....and more if you want Mobil 1.

Fast IMO seems to make more mistakes? But probably won’t find out till you leave the business later and see spots on garage floor? Plenty of oil change threads it you do simple search on TOTVs.

Another thing ALWAYS follow up and check dip stick level for any drips on garage. The few times I had my oil changed they over filled it most or time. Couple was quart over filled.

Prefer a professional mechanic who will give my car a good once over. If it costs more so be it.

Likely other options but here is Firestone regular oil / filter for 29.99. Didn't check for fine print

The 29.95 service used conventional motor oil, which nearly all vehicles on road don’t take conventional oil due to variable valve timing, which have tiny oil passages to advance valve gear adjusters. conventional motor oil Cokes up quicker and viscosity thicker not good for modern engines. Plus lucky to get 3K on conventional motor oil before it severely starts breaking down after time and miles. Usually synthetic oil changes are twice the 29.95 due to higher price of synthetic oil and that’s using the cheaper brand synthetic oils.

CarlR33 04-24-2025 09:16 PM

You could get another used or new car with the lifetime oil change for free, LOL. As others said, it’s a cost savings if you’re not driving that much anymore and only getting the annual change now vs every time it hits the mileage marker.

Gerrys 04-25-2025 04:38 AM

Try Walmart.

I don't worry about oil changes...The engine will knock at you when it's time to change the oil :)

Rwirish 04-25-2025 05:23 AM

Quick answer - no.

J1ceasar 04-25-2025 05:32 AM

Walmart is the cheapest. The regular oil is going to be about 30 to $50 cheaper than synthetic. My opinion is that it's out of warranty I just got cheap and it seems to be fine as I don't do high mileage only about 5,000 miles a year. You can also call Sumter or look for specials in those little coupon books or go on Groupon.com, I hope this helps

Postreader 04-25-2025 05:55 AM

I changed my oil. I bought a EWK 6L Oil Extractor Pump from Amazon for about $50 plus a quart of oil for small engines. I siphoned the oil from the engine by placing the tube down the dip stick opening to the bottom of the engine and giving it a pump to start the siphon. It is really easy to do.

darkim 04-25-2025 06:05 AM

For future reference…I purchased a used ‘22 Toyota Highlander from Palm Coast Ford, in part of the negotiations they agreed to free lifetime oil changes.

Well google token maybe 39 seconds. Price depends on the oil (type, mfg, etc). But you can get an oil change for as little as $30 at Walmart. $50 - $60 for (name brand) synthetic.

biker1 04-25-2025 06:33 AM

Most contemporary cars specify a viscosity (i.e. 0W-20, 0W-16, etc.) that can only be satisfied by a synthetic or synthetic blend. Even my 2011 specifies 0W-20. You can, of course, disregard the manufacturer's recommendation. If you are changing the oil yourself, the price difference between synthetic and conventional oil is generally pretty small. If you are going to a shop, the difference, as you pointed out, can be significant.

Just had my oil changed at Wildwood Tire on 44. It was about $60. Didn’t have to wait long and they were very nice.

. At the price of oil these days, I do not think so. And it all depends on what vehicle you have and how many quarts or gallons it takes and then if you use synthetic or base oil. Both of my cars use synthetic and hold 9 quarts. The oil itself is more than $50. IMO and I'm a gear head, the best deal is WAL Mart. They have a very good selection of major brands and nobody even comes close dollar wise. I buy my oil off the shelf, go around and get a quality filter. Then go to their service dest and have them install what you just bought. They charge $29 for the service which is more than reasonable. I use the
WalMart on 466 before 301.

Geared here, 8000 miles on oil, no way, unless you want to buy engines. That figure is used so that you need a new engine the day after the warranty☺️ expires. Ask ANY mechanic!

Yes they will change the oil, but when the engine takes a dump do the fix or replace it, and guaranteed they will say the engine dump was NOT due to oil problems. They have lawyers, lots of em.

jrref 04-25-2025 07:12 AM

So, this post just proves how cost driven many are here in the Villages. Why would you want to risk shortening the life of you vehical by cheaping-out on one of the most important aspects of maintencence to save a couple of dollars?

But I heard a rumor that the new White Castle they are building in Claremont will have an express oil change drive through where they change your oil and clean the windows for $29.99, no tax, no fees, no contract. I think they use the used cooking oil instead of mobile-1 syntethic but who cares? $29.99!!!:crap2:
