Oil Change
Did a search on TOTV, did not see an answer:
Is there anywhere reputable around here (including nearby outside bubble) to get an oil change for under $50? |

The 49.95 oil change left the building years ago with Elvis. |
The newer cars don’t need oil change ( usually) 8,000 miles or twice a year. My dealer charges less than $100 including tire rotation and the usual 20 point check. No, up charging or I won’t purchase there again and they know that. Several Threads on tire and oil changes you can check them out here on TOTV.

Check with Walmart

This is due to the high turbo temperatures and smaller oil passages in those engines. To the OP, Sumter Tire seemed popular in previous threads. |
Worry first that you have an honest repair shop.
Toyota recommends we change our synthetic oil every 10,000 miles but since we plan to keep out car for at least 100,000 miles normally do it at 5000. |
I change it when the car tells me too. Always Mobile 1 full synthetic and a bottle of Techron fuel system cleaner at each change. 1.4L turbo, 245,000 miles, runs great.

All the threads I searched were more about oil change intervals, not cost. |

I watch for sales on their oil and filter to save a few $$$. Store them at home, then have them change the oil whenever it's time. |

The last time we had Wildwood tire change our oil it was $60. Our new car came with a maintenance package so it gets changed for "free" now. |

I use Wildwood tire, and they are cost competitive. |
We had our ICE car, 2015 Mercedes, now have an EV and love it. But while we had the MB I did not want to cheap-out and every oil change was with Amsoil full synthetic. The best out there. Had it changed every year even if we did not drive 10 k miles. Peace of mind. Since the car was very expensive we wanted assurance the the lube system would be the best. Our last change, about Oct 2024 was $115. But glad we did that while owning the car, as the new owner knows how well we took care of it. Pays off. IMO

Yes, do it yourself. 5 quarts of Mobil 1 is around $28 (less $10 if they are offering a rebate) and a good quality oil filter is about $10. So, $38 (maybe $28).

Only way you’re going to get below 49 dollar oil change do it yourself. Other wise pay the piper and hope he does it right and good job? Plenty of oil change threads it you do simple search on TOTVs. |
For my newer car I go to the dealer where oil changes were included with the purchase price. For my older cars I go to "Take 5" which is chain with four locations near the villages on 27. So it is very convenient. I don't know if I'd call it reputable, its basically high school kids changing your oil, but they seem to do fine. Its more than $50 though. They have various coupons and specials that can get the advertised price down, but in reality the cost is usually around $125....and more if you want Mobil 1.

Likely other options but here is Firestone regular oil / filter for 29.99. Didn't check for fine print
Get an Oil Change Near You | Firestone Complete Auto Care |

The 29.95 service used conventional motor oil, which nearly all vehicles on road don’t take conventional oil due to variable valve timing, which have tiny oil passages to advance valve gear adjusters. conventional motor oil Cokes up quicker and viscosity thicker not good for modern engines. Plus lucky to get 3K on conventional motor oil before it severely starts breaking down after time and miles. Usually synthetic oil changes are twice the 29.95 due to higher price of synthetic oil and that’s using the cheaper brand synthetic oils. |
You could get another used or new car with the lifetime oil change for free, LOL. As others said, it’s a cost savings if you’re not driving that much anymore and only getting the annual change now vs every time it hits the mileage marker.

Try Walmart.

I don't worry about oil changes...The engine will knock at you when it's time to change the oil :)
|
Quick answer - no.
|
Walmart is the cheapest. The regular oil is going to be about 30 to $50 cheaper than synthetic. My opinion is that it's out of warranty I just got cheap and it seems to be fine as I don't do high mileage only about 5,000 miles a year. You can also call Sumter or look for specials in those little coupon books or go on Groupon.com, I hope this helps

I changed my oil. I bought a EWK 6L Oil Extractor Pump from Amazon for about $50 plus a quart of oil for small engines. I siphoned the oil from the engine by placing the tube down the dip stick opening to the bottom of the engine and giving it a pump to start the siphon. It is really easy to do.

For future reference…I purchased a used ‘22 Toyota Highlander from Palm Coast Ford, in part of the negotiations they agreed to free lifetime oil changes.

Most contemporary cars specify a viscosity (i.e. 0W-20, 0W-16, etc.) that can only be satisfied by a synthetic or synthetic blend. Even my 2011 specifies 0W-20. You can, of course, disregard the manufacturer's recommendation. If you are changing the oil yourself, the price difference between synthetic and conventional oil is generally pretty small. If you are going to a shop, the difference, as you pointed out, can be significant.

Just had my oil changed at Wildwood Tire on 44. It was about $60. Didn’t have to wait long and they were very nice.

So, this post just proves how cost driven many are here in the Villages. Why would you want to risk shortening the life of you vehical by cheaping-out on one of the most important aspects of maintencence to save a couple of dollars?
But I heard a rumor that the new White Castle they are building in Claremont will have an express oil change drive through where they change your oil and clean the windows for $29.99, no tax, no fees, no contract. I think they use the used cooking oil instead of mobile-1 syntethic but who cares? $29.99!!!:crap2: |
