Lamp post sign

Was wondering if there is a local outlet in the Villages for ordering a lamp post sign. Or is there a company that is authorized by The Villages that they prefer you to use? Thanks!

retiredguy123 04-28-2025 02:02 PM

There is no Villages preferred sign. If I were buying a sign, I would order it from Amazon. Way cheaper than a local vendor.

Stu from NYC 04-28-2025 02:32 PM

I do not remember the price but bought our from Signs by Jackie. We did want it engraved with something specific for our house.

Bill14564 04-28-2025 02:41 PM

We got ours from Signs by Jackie at one of the market nights some time ago. There is a 2021 thread on the same topic.

villagetinker 04-28-2025 04:23 PM

Ours is also a Signs by Jackie product and we are very pleased with the quality.

JoMar 04-28-2025 04:31 PM

As I remember Signs by Jackie has been doing signs since Harold Schwartz was a small boy :). They are located off of 301 and I guess market night. Many designs and really good people.

MrFlorida 04-28-2025 05:57 PM

ACE. hardware sells them.

OrangeBlossomBaby 04-28-2025 06:07 PM

The Villages sales rep who helped us buy our home here gave us a $50 gift card for Signs by Jackie on the day of closing. Most of the "basic" signs were $50, so we picked one of those. Probably would've gone with them anyway because they were the ones mentioned the most.

JMintzer 04-28-2025 07:16 PM

We used one of the other sign makers. He's typically at "Market Night" @ Brownwood, on the East side of the square. His sample sign have old time televisions couples names on them, ie Fred & Ethel Mertz...

Very happy with his work...

How about support a local vendor?

bowlingal 04-29-2025 04:42 AM

my real estate agent got me a coupon for a free one when I bought my house from Bob Martin Signs

After looking at reviews on Amazon and not being able to visually see them, we bought ours at Ace Hardware by Winn Dixie for $75. Was able to see all available and picked out the one we wanted.

DarrenandKathy 04-29-2025 05:03 AM

If you want simple you can order one at Burry’s Ace Hardware in Spanish Springs Plaza.
They have all the sample displays and are familiar with the ordering process.
They order from a local vendor.
It only takes a couple of days.

Our sign was from Bob Martin. It’s 13 years old now and looks like new.

Guinness835 04-29-2025 05:49 AM

We used Signs by Farris. He’s local and made and installed ours within 2 weeks! We are happy with the quality.

chuckpedrey 04-29-2025 06:05 AM

Town squares have merchant nights and John Hayes has a tent that provides a large selection of personalized driveway lamp signs

Federspiel 04-29-2025 06:10 AM

Ace hardware has basic not fancy lamp signs.

Darwina 04-29-2025 06:40 AM

A long wait

We used Signs By Jackie as well. Be warned that it took 8 weeks so that tells you how busy they are. If you are in the newer sections you also need to buy a new bar to hang it on -which they will sell to you as well , because the ones provided are too short. We had trouble with the holes so my husband had to drill into it to make it fit better.

We went to the Ace Hardware near the Winn Dixie and Spanish Springs. They had a pretty good selection of types.

My sister ordered hers at Ace Hardware. It's beautiful and lights up at night.

Ace Hardware also makes lamp post signs.

We spent some time driving around in the golf cart looking at signs after dark; while some of the signs look great by day, you can't read them well after dark and we knew we wanted something internally lit so it was clearly legible after dark. Several of the vendors listed only do a specific type or style of sign, and we found that the ones we really liked (and could clearly read day or night) were by Signs by Jackie, so we went with them. They are really popular and it does take 6-8 weeks for them to be ready, but they also installed it while we were gone and did a beautiful job.

idlewild 04-29-2025 09:05 AM

If anyone is moving and no longer wants their sign, I'll take it. I would love to hang a sign with some random person's / couple's name and possibly a pet or two as a deterrent to lukewarm acquaintance and unintelligent friends.

I love this idea! LOL

CybrSage 04-29-2025 09:07 AM

I own a 3D Printer up north and made my own sign.

Pretty sure Bob Martin was the guy I was talking about...

Jim1mack 04-29-2025 05:59 PM

The UPS store have several on display you can choose from and then put whatever names you want on it.

CFrance 04-29-2025 06:39 PM

We were at Americano's last Saturday and stopped at the sign table in the Saturday market there. I think it was Signs by Jackie. We were told to pick the sign up at the Saturday farmer's market in Brownwood. All the vendors markets have been permanently closed. Don't know why.

8 weeks is a preposterous lead time for a small, relatively simple sign.

They need to either hire/train more people, or get a better organizational system in place.

Or keep the way they are which is quality and not grow into mega company that loses what makes it a great company. Their signs last! They will also repaint the sign for half price if you move Super nice local people to work with to get what you want. They have standard and light up signs.

I think they are in a better position regarding their business model than we are

Go to a market night on one of the squares. There is usually someone there to make your sign. I would purchase from someone locally (a US business) than rely upon a possible foreign dealer on Amazon.

See post #30. There are no more market nights at the squares. You can look for the sign booth at Saturday farmers market in Brownwood.
