The Creek is in great condition.

Playing it now, before it gets too hot.................no shade.

Crazy starter this morning:
Our tee time was 8am.
The 7:44 two-some showed up about five minutes before their tee time.
They asked if they could go out later so they could warm up a bit.
We (two-some) said we can out go at 7:44 if they want to go at 8am.
They said that would be great.
The starter said no.
Really?!?!?!

How about the opposite today, not at Shallow Creek. We were a foursome, but the other 2 that we didn't know came a bit early and wanted to go out because they "were in a hurry" When we teed off on #1 (350 par 4) they were just chipping onto the green. They were on the slow side, we waited on them at least 80% of our shots but could never catch up. But watching them, we were glad we didn't---even though they were playing from the girlie tees, they would wait for the group ahead to get over 300 yards out before they hit---and on par 4's of under 320 they waited for the green to clear. It then took them 4 or 5 shots to get there. THAT would have driven us nuts, so it was worth waiting on them not to have played with them. However, in general, I don't think it is right for the starter to split a foursome to send 2 people out 5 minutes earlier.

Same thing with letting a faster twosome or a single play through. Was told doing this makes it difficult for the ambassador to track pace of play.

They might track pace, but 99.4% of them do nothing about slow play.

If they do track pace, allowing a twosome or single play-thru does not complicate tracking.
The ambass might have to think, but every group is still trackable.

Despite the no shade thing I agree that the creek is in great condition. If I’m going to make the long trek south to play a Champ I would select the creek over the oaks every time. As far as the starter, that’s typical. The system they are instructed to run requires the names and times in the system to line up with play on the course. Otherwise they would have to cancel everyone’s scheduled tee times in the system and rebook the players under a different time. That happened to me one time when someone in our foursome showed up late and the starter shuffled our tee time with the group after us. When I checked my play history on the system it showed that I canceled a tee time and then rebooked another. Some starters are willing to do that and apparently others are not?

This guy was jus lazy.

I think any ambassador is able to figure out that Mr DeWilson58 is one hole ahead of where he should be because he and another 2 some swapped start times.

Actually the solutions is EXTREMELY SIMPLE.

The starter just had to switch the cart colors on his sheet since the Ambass had not copied the information down yet. Except for the fact that I'm so handsome, the Ambass would have been clueless.

Unless the other twosome were only playing 9 holes, I can’t imagine why the starter would object.

Lazy starter. Let a staff lead know.

Perhaps they were playing the senior tees as their distance has declined with age. Don’t worry, you will get to the “girlie” tees soon enough!

They weren't very old. And if their distance had "declined", there is no need to wait on a 320-yard par 4.

PS: I plan to get to the girlie tees when I'm about 98 years old

Been playing Shallow Creek & Southern Oak lately. Both are in fantastic shape, so everyone go north to play elseware!
Tee’d off starting on 10 yesterday at SO. Started wanted us literally right in front of the starter shack to release us. Me there with the rest of our group just off to the side just wasn’t good enough. Weird, weird. Never saw a Marshall on course, play was backed up.

99% of starters and ambassadors are great. A few let their pencil and clipboard send them on a power trip.

We had a tee time at 8:56 the previous Wednesday. All four of us checked in 30 minutes prior to our start time. For the 30 minutes we were standing by warming up a bit, and noticed that there was nobody on the tee box all that time. We were called up at 8:56 to tee up. However, all subsequent bookings followed behind us. What made it uncomfortable was that there was a threesome on our backs all the time.
What would of made sense was to let us out early, so there wasn’t a back log on every hole.

Shallow Creek might be in great shape, but it holds zero appeal to me. It's closer to two super executives than it is to a championship course. I found the course to be very short and exceedingly easy. There was nothing memorable to the layout - the only redeeming quality is the restaurant. To top it off, it's also the most expensive course to play.

I’m a Ranger at a NJ county golf course. We’re told to not leave any open spots whenever possible. In your case, I would’ve sent you out in the twosomes place wanting to wait. Then I would’ve taken a beer out of the golf bags of the group behind you as a penalty.

Rule #1 for a starter is
 

Don't listen to the golfers!
Rule #1 for the Ambassador is don't listen to the golfers. Stay away and just watch to determine issues, golfers lie for self serving reasons.
Once golfers tee off they are self serving
once you start to make accommodations you are screwed!
Adult children better known as golfers will then, once realizing you made an exception, all want something. Best stay out of that pool.

The history of speed of play found two things...
1. the tee time interval is the amount of time it takes to play the first par 3 hole on the course.
2. golfers teeing off earlier than their tee time create slow play,

That being said, why people wait on the tee for the group ahead to get on and or off the green, not par 3's, is beyond me and so self serving so they can continue playing the hole once they tee off.

When they do this and the groups behind them start stacking up it creates many issues.

Bottom line--- don't let the inmates rule the asylum............:thumbup:

I had to beg a starter at Glenview to let me out alone in front of the 4 some who were waiting for a guy. The 4 some actually embarrassed the guy who finally let me out.Its all about their minimum wage jobs and the discount they get on golf. CANT BREAK THE RULES EVEN IF ITS COMMON SENSE.

Let me simplify it for you
 

Golfers don't determine policy... if they did......you would have these issues all day long
In reality he should have held the 2some and put them with you
singles and twosomes slow play down.........as they back up into 3's and 4's and then create
a jam behind them.

We (the golfers) were not determining policy............it was common sense and good customer service.
The starter was just plain lazy and was on a power trip.
Starters move players around all the time........I see it on my play history.

As GE said, most starters are great.........this was the one is not in the majority.

I've never been in a "slow" twosome.............twosome vs. foursome, being a twosome does not create slow play. Golfers create slow play, not the structure.

Too many times I see both younger and older golfers playing from the wrong set of tees in The Villages. This is part of the reason for slow play. When you are hitting a 5 or 3 wood from 140/150 yards, attempting to get your ball somewhere around the green, you are probably teeing up from the wrong set of tees. Just saying.


Good health and good luck living into your 90’s. A few years ago I shook hands with a guy who was 101 years old and still playing the executive courses in TV. Sorry, a bit off from the Thread topic. I have yet to play the Creek.
