Twirlers, Cheerleaders, Dancers

There was a recent post on a Social Media broadcast that the Twirlers, Cheerleaders, Dancers would no longer be allowed to perform for T.V. activities.
Not sure if this is valid or not, seems strange, anyone know for sure?
If so, who made this determination?

There have been a number of letters to the editor on the news site which shall not be named.

I assume Villages Entertainment is responsible for the entertainment at the squares.

Well, it’s the same with any advertisement, always looking for something new and what sells.

Better to say no longer invited to perform.

I would say go anyway. Look for a spot that will accommodate your group and twirl, cheerlead, or dance to your hearts content.

Why not, how would it be any different than a group of line dancers taking over a spot to do their thing?

Velvet 05-23-2025 10:55 PM

Yes, it would simply look like a class having a practice session. As long as they don’t bother any one why not?

The Villages would have less culpability if they rescinding any kind of invitation to such events to cheerleaders, stilt walkers and other such professional performers.

My wife, who I love dearly, is the queen of reading headlines only told me about this article and me the king of yes dear did not let it register properly so as we “discussed” this news she could not tell me why these groups are being cancelled. I have read only opinions and guesses but can anyone point me to the full story to get the reasoning behind it.

Relax, Hooters is coming soon!

I am a member of one of the groups involved. We have been informed by The Villages Entertainment Department that resident groups will still be invited to perform at events. They are realigning groups with events that compliment the overall theme. They are changing how events are planned going forward, and it will be interesting to see how this evolves.

While at yoga last week, discussion with 6 group performers, they are not being eliminated. However as the Villages grows so do new group performers. They are waiting for official notification from TV entertainment, on new protocols. Guessing each group would submit type of performance and availability. Then either a lottery like craft shows, maybe a group may only perform once a year.

Their thoughts less groups performing at events, because at some events even for those performing it could be a little chaotic and time-consuming.

There was a subtle smirk on how some performers groups would fit a “ Themed Event”.(not my words, but how many events would hula, cheer, twilling fit?)

The six remained positive, there has never been a guarantee for club performance. If any group expects they are entitled to live audience performances, instead of just a club, there should be an awakening.

Two even said “My spouse doesn’t even show up until all the performances are done”. He still loves me, but….

Thank you for sharing. ❤️

You're on to something there with those last two sentences. I think the clubs for those who love to engage in those activities are wonderful. However, I do not enjoy watching them anymore than they would probably enjoy watching me play checkers. I was somewhat relieved that parade audiences wouldn't be required to watch them.

So now, everyone that was concerned, has the rest of the story.

I agree.
Too much speculation with no facts………

J1ceasar 05-24-2025 11:32 AM

The real reason?

Whenever you don't like something that happens, just follow the money to figure out why it happened, in this case if you're not charging for entertainment as the band, and you can't get any kickbacks or favors. But that's just my opinion

But then again if people stopped coming to events because they are bored by the entertainment it can hurt interest in The Villages.

The Villages likely have a giant insurance policy that would protect them. Plus lawyers on top of lawyers.

I enjoy watching the groups perform. What is a parade without cheerleaders, baton twirlers, pom pon performers etc? The purpose of these groups are to perform and entertain others (unlike checkers, cards, board games etc). I appreciate them when I am participating in the Running of the Squares, watching the Christmas parades etc. Appreciate that The Villages provides multiple venues for them to perform.

Glad to hear they are not going away but will be intentionally aligned with the various events we have.

asianthree 05-24-2025 08:29 PM

Considering Eastport and Middleton residents are younger and families I wonder who would be used in their entertainment. HS and Middle School has Cheer squad, Dance teams that can actually perform lifts, pyramid, with difficult choreography. Who doesn’t love a parade with cute young kids, singing, dancing, and a marching band.

Fenster 05-26-2025 11:20 AM

Keep on cheering, twirling and dancing!

Totally agree.
I don’t believe anything on social media.
Money is not a factor. I doubt they get paid anything.
Also, I love those groups. They’re great. Love to see them perform. And the crowd does too.

No mention of clowns. Clowns scare me. Bad experience at the B&B circus in the 1950's.
