Can they fit?
Has anyone managed to fit a sedan and two 10-foot long golf cars in a two-car garage? I was never very good at Tetris:
Car: 16-5’L x 6-1’W x 4-11’H Golf Car 1: 9'1"L x 4'3"W x 6'3"H Golf Car 2: 8'7"L x 4'6"W x 5'3"H One potential purchase (moving houses) has a garage of 19'-4" X 20'-0" Second potential purchase has a garage of 19'-8" X 24'-0" |
What is the depth of your garage??

I wouldn't buy either house. You need a house with a 2-car garage and a separate golf cart garage. That would be my minimum standard requirement, and there are many available. Cramming those vehicles into a 2-car garage would be a constant hassle and regret. Also, think about resale value.

A lot of people have two carts, one car and that is their new Lifestyle. As 123 mentioned, a golf cart garage on the side would be nice........more space the merrier, but you can go without. |
Depends on how much crap from house in taking up space in garage? Like half kitchen protruding in garage space, water heater, air handler, washer dryer? If they are true two car garage space should fit. But would leave less room for tools, bench, and what ever else you have to put in garage. CYVs are advertised as 1 1/2 and 2 car garage, but the design has normal stuff inside house in garage making them verily one car or 1 1/2 half car garage. So you really have to look at space in garages in villages see if will fit your needs.

You will also need to consider which side of the garage the carts will occupy, getting out of the car and past the golf carts to get into the house will be interesting.

Looks like you have 5’ of room to play with between vehicles (5/3 is 1.6 foot between each?)and plenty of room for length? Your second option would be to leave the car outside? It’s a depreciating asset anyhow?

You NEVER have enough garage space.

Two carts (Behind each other) with the car on the left. Tight, but works.

I have a two-car garage with an adjacent golf cart garage just to fit two full-size cars.
It would work with two golf carts and a full-size vehicle. |
They will fit. Only regret we have with our house is no golf cart garage.
Would not buy another Villages house without one. |
Two things important to us. No open land behind us because it could become a big box store.
Buy the biggest garage in your budget. OP you aren’t saying if this is a bigger or smaller garage. If it’s smaller take a pause to see what you need to eliminate. We bypassed many homes that we really loved the view and the house, because of a smaller garage than we had. Plenty of houses out there keep looking |
You will eventually regret not getting a home with a golf cart garage. Upon resale, that is a huge negative for potential buyers. If you are skepticle, look to see how much longer a home without a golf cart garage is on the market compared to those that have one.

We are on our third home and our first move to the second was precisely that issue …. You have the ability to do it right the first time….. |
Thank you for all the insightful responses. I appreciate all the carefully considered input. Also glad no one without practical experience chimed in to tell me to sell the gas carts and go with electric.
CarlR33, the car cannot stay on the driveway because it would be there unmoved from May until December every year. Not only unprotected and uncovered, but a neighbor eyesore if not a ARC violation. I would love to see how Janie123 and WesternRider75's neighbor accomplishes the task. I understand that a golf-cart garage in addition to a 2-car would be heavenly. In fact, when the number of bedrooms in a house is an important real estate metric, I would give up bedrooms for more garage space. Truthfully, I would take house that had a single primary suite, a kitchen and living room and then all the rest was garage but Mrs. EDJ would certainly not approve. For what it's worth, each of these golf carts is bigger than the standard 2-person cart. One is a 2+2 Yamaha Adventurer with the 2 rear-facing seats and the other is an Atomic Kool Cart (yeah- I know, don't get me started. I'm not a fan. However, Mrs. EDJ wants her A/C and Mrs. EDJ more often than not gets what she wants. Hence two separate carts, I will not be caught dead in one if I can avoid it, just like I will never push a pet in a pet-stroller. A man has to have his lines in the sand or he is no man at all). I've never seen a patio villa (Moonstone or Emerald) wherein someone has taken the front lanai, put in a couple of French-style screened doors on the side so that a cart could be stored (and covered) during absences. It's an idea though. |
Garage Space
First I’d go with the larger garage as per house #2. Car parked to one side with one golf cart parked sideways in front of car. Second golf cart along side of car.
I have a 1&1/2 car garage villa and I fit a Chrysler Prowler to one side, golf cart parked sideways in front of the Prowler and a Kia Soul parked along side of the Prowler. Tight but works. Quote:

How big us your car?
|
I would go as large as possible
Mathematically the vehicles would fit, but then there are the other variables. Will you add a water softener? Do you need extra space for storage? How big is your trash can? Does your water heater or home filter system take up any of that footprint? What kind of maneuvering will you be doing for parking when it’s pouring outside?

So are golf carts. |

Cut outs for car and golf carts. REMINDER-you need room to open doors. Storage is limited. No one has a basement as it would be an indoor swimming pool. Wow I miss my basement. Different strokes for different folks. Two golf cart family? Never felt a need for two golf carts. |
In a fit, but he won't have any room to put a shelf, workbench or much of anything.
I just bought a new Palisades and fit at my garage, but I have about 3-4 feet of space on either side. I have shelves on the back wall and the side wall, where the Golf Cart garage is is a workbench and next that is a toolbox and a swamp cooler. The other side has a cabinet for tools, a freezer and my workout bench. |

Garage space was a big part of why I moved from my 1st home. It was called a stretch 2 car garage. I said it was a stretch to call that a 2 car garage. My new to me home can fit my X5 and I could squeeze 4 carts if needed. Never enough garage space!

Vehicles are like children. If you add a child (cart), then a 2 bedroom (garage) is sufficient, but tight. If you have another child, your thinking an addition (2nd cart garage) needs to be done. By the 3rd child (car/carts) your thinking of moving for more space. By the time you reach Partridge family size, your realizing most of your money goes to take care of your children. By a pre-owned home, remove all the walls. Restructure for a small bedroom, small kitchen and sitting area (500sq ft) and let the rest of the home 1700sq ft) be a garage. Your vehicles will be happy.

P.S. - Babbs, I think you're onto a great idea, but I'm pretty confident Mrs. EDJ would swiftly wield her veto power on that course of action. |
