Ring Doorbell
 
Can anyone recommend someone that can install a Ring doorbell. I live near MarshBend.

The physical installation is fairly simple, the connection to your network, and the phone applications can be more interesting, so I guess I am asking if you need both?

Get the RING with the battery inside. Then you have no need for a wired setup. All you need then is a screwdriver for the two screws. The battery will need to be charged about every 3 months which is easy to do. Look on Youtube for more infor on how to do this. You can do it!

If you locate the Ring device where the old doorbell button is located, you can remove the button and connect the two wires to the Ring. This will keep the battery charged, and it will also allow the Ring to operate the old doorbell. I have had mine installed this way for 3 years, and I have never needed to charge the Ring battery.

Note that you do not need to turn off the power to connect the low voltage button wires.

The installation is pretty simple with their instructions and online videos including (most likely) YouTube. The unit will talk you through the WiFi setup once you install it. I think part of the instruction is turning off the power. I would read the instructions (if you already purchased one) and if your not comfortable with it then you will need to pay someone like an electrician to install it which will probably be ~$100 (guessing). You are not getting any contractor references because most people install them themselves, etc.

If the wires in the old button are tiny low voltage wires, you don't need to turn off the power, if you can even find out how to turn it off.

If you are using ring using your interior chime, with nothing else, that’s old technology. The ring I use doesn’t use the indoor chime, ring notifies both of us on our iPhones/iPads/Apple TV’s and we can see who is at our door, talk to them from anywhere. Since we carry our iPhone everywhere, or wear the Apple Watch everywhere, I can always hear the chime
I then bought a ring accessorie that plugs in anywhere in the house and sends out the rings and warnings

Even if you have new technology, I still recommend connecting the Ring to the old chime button. This will keep the Ring battery charged, and it will provide a backup system if your wifi is down (I think).
