MUNN’s Increase

Just received a 70% increase on our annual service contract. Anyone else seen a substantial increase? I guess it’s time to shop around.

Also, if you need a HVAC system replacement, Munns might not have the lowest price any more on Carrier equipment since they are not installing in the new builds any longer. They don't have the same "buying power" as some of the other major companies who are still installing in the new builds. So, shop around.

Can you name the companies who are installing HVAC systems in the new builds and are they still using Carrier equipment?

I dropped 'em years ago. Name should be Munn$

The only company I know for sure is Sunshine and yes they are still installing Carrier. The only difference is if you are building, you can order an upgraded unit such as the Carrier Infinity Greenspeed at an additional cost over the basic units. I have several friends in Middleton who did that. When you go to their web site they highlight they have won the Carrier Presidents award many years in a row which means they are one of Carriers top dealers. I don't see that on any other companies web sites. If you need an estimate call Ray Watson on 352-445-7065. I know him and he is very fair and knowledgable, no pressure, just the facts you will need when deciding on which company to go with.

The only other recommendation is eventhough a larger company like Sunshine may be slightly higher in price than a smaller locally owned reputable company, Sunshine will have more flexibility and access to Carrier given their size. Also, a company like Sunshine is more likely to have more and better trained tech's on the newer equipment being installed these days.

Everything is getting expensive for many reasons, tarriffs, cost of living, equipment in general even on the most basic units so best to get a couple of estimates and make sure you are comparing "apples to apples" since many times a company might come in way lower and you will find out later they didn't do the same install as Sunshine did to cut corners. Remember, the installation is the most important part of your project which will determine the longevity of the system you are purchasing. All I can say is when Sunshine did my job they replaced everything with new even the plywood that the air handler is sitting on. Everything was done "by the book", no shortcuts taken. No matter how long it took, they paid attention to every detail. Another thing you can ask is how long the job will take when you get an estimate. Mine took 7 1/2 hours so if you get lowballed and they say much less time then they might be taking some shortcuts. There are a lot of good reputable companies out there, just be aware.

Munn's was a ripoff BEFORE raising their prices!

Yes, my Munn’s maintenance service jumped 40% this year.

rsmurano 06-20-2025 05:10 AM

I switched from Munns to sunkool almost 2 years ago because of price initially, and since they have done 3 different maintenance dates so far, sunkool does everything that Munns did since I’m out there watching them. They did the last maintenance less than a month ago and I don’t remember a price increase from last fall. Sunkool put in our mits mini split in a couple years ago so I knew of their work

Jimmay 06-20-2025 05:12 AM

After using them for seven years, I got the same thing. I left and went with someone else

Veracity 06-20-2025 05:57 AM

Sunshine has been awesome for us. Even if they raise their prices this year, I will still stay with them.

Check out Air FX in Inverness. Better and less expensive than DeSantis, and more honest.

Munns Left Me HOT

My A/C died on a Sunday. First thing Monday morning I called Munns. They couldn't come until Thursday! By 5pm Monday my house hit 87 degrees inside and I couldn't take it anymore so I call the company that installed my Amana unit All American Air. They were at my house in an hour and got the unit running. Two parts were needed, they came back the next morning with the 2nd part and all is good. Munns taking 4 days to show up was just ridiculous and I will never call them again.

We replaced our AC unit a year ago and got three bids for the exact same unit. They were $2000 higher than the other two companies. Check out Kalos for your service. We have been with them for 8 years and they have always treated us right.

My air conditioner went out recently and the house was heating up rapidly. With COPD and on oxygen I can’t handle high heat and humidity. I called Munns, explained my situation and they were at my house within 3 hours. They have always taken care of my needs in a timely manner always same day.u

We have Sunshine also. I was super impressed with their warranty work.

We use them for our annual service and are happy. But make no mistake they are also trying to sell whatever Mold/algae/mildew reducing system they can. But they do it in a no pressure way. They inform you what is available and let you decide if you want to bite. Then they go about their business.

When we bought our first house in 2018, our realtor suggested Frostys. Husband loves their service. Now in our second home, still use them.

Villager24 06-21-2025 07:20 AM

Not sure what they were charging before, but their bi-annual maintenance fee is the same as our service “back home”.

I believe what might be happening is everyone's costs are rising and the need to service 2X a year the types of HVAC systems that we have here in the Villages is probably not necessary. Many HVAC companies are dropping this service unless you have a special situation or demand it. In fact, I don't want them putting gauges on my AC unit 2X a year since everytime they do that, a small amount of refrigerant is lost. Over many years, you possibly could loose enough refrigerant to make your system run less efficiently. Yearly service is enough. Also, as we discussed before, the service is to make sure your indoor and outdoor coils are clean and to do some checks in an attempt to prevent failures. Here in the Villages, the indoor and outdoor coils will not need cleaning more than yearly and 2X a year service isn't going to prevent any more failures than yearly. That said, Munns prides itself in servicing the customer so with the tremendous growth here in the Villages they probably don't have enough techs to do service 2x per year and they need to raise rates because of rising costs.

Very well said.
Also, I feel Your HVAC system is one of the important appliances in our houses.

BTW, I'm a fan of Munn's service, once a year I get mine serviced
and always in the winter, (off season).

And Munn's is a very good company just might not be the cheapest anymore and that's fine if you are happy with the service. I use Sunshine and yes their yearly service costs a little more too but i'm fine with that because I'm satisified with their work and never have to worry.

We have been spoiled by Chuck Farrell and his employees. We were customers since 2015, but with our move south of 44 he doesn’t have the staff to continue south. He strongly recommended Kalos. We used then at one of our rentals and were very happy

Last year our A/C quit working and called Munns. It was a Wednesday in October at approximately 1100 am and had to leave a message because no one answered the phone. Still to this day they haven't returned our call. At 300pm we call FL HVAC Services and they were at our house within an hour. Our A/C needed a part they didn't have in stock, and they drove to Jacksonville to get the part the next morning. The supply house in Orlando also was out of stock. Our A/C was running that afternoon. The price was very
reasonable and they are very honest. They also do our checkup now and its 99 dollars. Once again, I think it's very reasonable...
