Glass for the win!
After many discussions and opinions, we decided to glass in our lanai instead of powered screens.
We see that everyone seems to love Fullview Enclosures, is there anyone else? Any upgrades you can suggest? |
Used FullView, added insulation to the ceiling, double pane hurricane rated glass, sliders to the birdcage, and smaller sliding windows for the rest of the area. Talk to them if you are considering adding a mini split later, I had one of the vertical elements that are normally 2" by 4" replaced with a 4" by 4" so I have an easy way to route the tubing and drain. Also discuss any changes you may be making to the floor after the installation.

Definitely consider adding electrical outlets. We added one to each pillar for a total of 4 extra outlets. We contracted this thru Fullview and are very happy with the result. They had contacts with electricians and a guy that repaired the stucco so nothing shows outside or inside except the outlets.

We just contracted to have FullView glass in our lanai. We'll see what it's like (since it only gets partial morning sun) down the road to see it we want to add a mini-split...
Full sliding glass panels with privacy screens that faces the neighbors hot tub. The majority of the rest of the lanai has a large hedge for privacy. |
We have used Fullview twice and have been happy. We enclosed a front porch, and our back lanai on our first house. We then bought another house and are having them enclose the Lanai on that one (in process). On the new house its a pool house so the Lanai connects to the birdcage containing the pool via triple-track sliding doors.
Fullview is very good. But they are probably the most expensive. I have heard Custom windows is good as well but did not use them. |
Custom Windows. Added the Mitsubishi mini split & insulation at the same time.
We got the doors that are tinted. |
Double pane insulated windows, insulation in the attic, sliding windows on the sides to let the cross breeze thru, raised the floor to match height of the house floor, put electrical, rg6 and cat6 cables in the pillars and 2 floor spots for the tv and recliners, tiled the floor using the same tile as the house, put the mini split using the ceiling mount so you don’t see the ugly box, and using the Cielo thermostat (like the ecobee) to program the mini split. All of this and it didn’t raise our property taxes.

We used custom windows and they did a great job. We liked the fact that they have a showroom in Leesburg where you can see the product
|
We had quotes from both Fullview and Custom Windows, CW was slightly cheaper and had a showroom, which Fullview didn't at the time. Fullview was started by one of the installation guys from CW, so they took their crew with them and some of CW customers. We really liked CW. We had insulation added, 2 outlets to the pillars in lanai and then really needed a minisplit [our lanai is 12x30ft] and was too big for our interior ac to handle.
|
We found the FullView estimate to be significantly lower cost and they did exactly what we wanted where Custom Windows refused.
|
We had Fullview double pane enclose our lanae with sliders and screens. Custom was considered, but Fullview worked with our schedule better. Exceptional job. Coordination of electricals, stucco, painting was “effortless”.
We are so glad we went with double pane. It is much quieter ( our neighbor mowed at 7-8 am) and we are more secure when high winds hit. We have not added a mini split. The house ac is able to handle the extra room thus far. Peaceful, useable space now. |
I was told by Fullview that they and Custom Windows get their products from the same manufacturer in Ocala. That was 2 years ago so don't know this is still true, but at the time Fullview's quote was about 10% cheaper for exact same windows.

We used All Season Rooms All Season Rooms in The Villages, Florida Very happy with their product. Definitely get double pane glass as it makes a huge difference.
|
We also used All Seasons Rooms and went with double pane sliders with sliding screens which makes it very easy for cleaning the glass without having to remove the heavy panels the way Custom Windows installs them and All Season was more competitive also having panels available with a lifetime transferrable warranty. No regrets.

Custom Windows

Custom Windows is very good! Excellent product and customer service. Be sure to install sliding doors rather than sliding windows. ( walk through threshold) Any future expansion in an area where windows were used results in regrets. may as well give yourself future options. You never know!! |

Thank You |
Has anyone used these companies (or other companies) to install a larger sliding glass door in their actual house wall (that goes out to their lanai)? Any thoughts?
