Overnight Uber service? Experiences?

Good afternoon!!!!

I am flying out of town for the first time since becoming a resident. Groome to MCO and picking up Groome early in the morning.

If you have experiences with Uber, early in the morning, I would be interested in hearing your saga. If you can say how long you had to wait for pickup, from whistling them up, in-app, that would be helpful.

Seeking a ride from Village of Duval to Brownwood hotel, to arrive at 3:30am on a weekday.

Thank you, in advance. It will be appreciated.

We have Uber in The Villages?
If there is one, you better order your ride well in advance.

We do.

If I whistle up a trip, right now, I'll pay $12.55 and pickup will be in fifteen minutes.

You will late a long time for someone to pick you up.

Sorry...I was less than perfectly clear....it's a Monday afternoon, if I ask for a pickup RIGHT NOW, I can expect pickup in about fifteen minutes.

If I ask for a pickup very early in the morning, what is your experience as to the total wait?

Thanks,

jimhoward 07-14-2025 03:42 PM

You can schedule an UBER ride in advance if you are worried that ordering one when you need it will result in too long a wait time.

But if you do that avoid the lowest cost fare. The risk is that the driver may decide he or she doesn't like the cheap fare and cancel the ride even after its accepted which will make you scramble to get a new ride. That can and does happen, although probably not early on a weekday morning.

CarlR33 07-14-2025 03:50 PM

It appears from their website that Groome has home pickup?

JIM!!!!!!

Thank YOU! Some specific and practical advice.....deeply appreciated.

I'm typing eight minutes after you posted and the ride is PRE-scheduled!

I'm travelling on an expense account, so I am less sensitive to the cost, fortunately.

$21.92 from Duval to Brownwood Hotel, if interested.

From the Duval pool to the hotel is a 4.5 mile trip. For $22?!

Have you considered driving and parking, near the airport that has 24 hour shuttle or the grome home pick up to brownwood connection?

If you do the math it’s probably cheaper to drive and park at MCO in the long term parking at $14 a day? Does your company pay for mileage to and from airport for your car? I do it a couple times a month.

Groome will pick you up at your house and take you to the Brownwood hotel to catch the bus for $10. Why not just do that. They are dependable. They will also drop you off in reverse from the bus to your home upon your return. Call Groome to schedule.

NotGolfer 07-15-2025 06:31 AM

We just experienced a trip to MCO...had a pick-up with Groome at the house at 3 a.m. The ride from home to the Brownwood Hotel to catch their bus/van to MCO was seamless. Return was the same a few days later. Stick with Groome and not a "maybe" with an Uber.

virtue51 07-15-2025 07:47 AM

Groome will pick you up at the house and bring you to Brownwood.

We've used Uber twice from Spanish Springs area to Orlando Airport. We ordered our vehicle well in advance and had no trouble. We don't pre-order for the drive home and both pickups were within 15 minutes.

Freeda 07-15-2025 07:59 AM

Definitely do the Groome home pickup. Only $5 if you schedule it yourself online. Or both Lyft and Uber have scheduled rides available so you can plan your pickup in advance.

donfey 07-15-2025 08:37 AM

Price?

And how much did Uber from home to MCO cost? Thanks.

There is no need to give wrong information. I have used uber on several occasions and my ride is usually here within 10 minutes - never more than 15.

Runway48 07-15-2025 02:33 PM

What was the cost for uber to MCO? It would seem that taking Groome from home to Brownwood and then transferring to a bus to MCO would add additional time to the trip and you now have another carrier's schedule to deal with. Uber or driving and parking in economy long term lot at MCO would seem to be most direct and time efficient.

Time wise Groome was much faster when we could be picked up at home and delivered directly to the airport.

Even worse now you have to wait for pickup at Orlando than transfer to shuttle home and somehow we are usually one of the last to be drop offed.

We have used Groome's home pick-up several times and it has generally been reliable. Two caveats:

1) Depending on where you are on its route, it may pick you up an hour before your bus leaves; and

2) Last time it arrived late to pick us up and only just made the bus - on its previous circuit it missed the bus (despite calling ahead and saying it was on its way) so there were earlier passengers at Lake Sumter Landing who were not too happy.

On expenses?
Rent a car one way to MCO. Puts you in charge of all timings. Done it many times. Easy peasy.

BillY41 07-16-2025 04:38 AM

I have reserved an Uber ride for 2AM Del Mar to MCO. Arrived on time and cheaper than Groome. Groome will NOT pick you up overnight.

wjilenei.yahoo.com 07-16-2025 08:50 AM

I have been wanting to try the one way car rental. Where do you pick up the car and what rental company do u use,?

I like the rental car idea. I'll look at it for the next time the company demands a Wisconsin appearance from me.

For those who are interested, the 3:15 Uber reservation arrived right on time....no issues.

Notsocrates 07-18-2025 12:13 AM

Why don't you just have Groome pick you up?

I have been staying at various Marriott properties near the airport for those early morning flights and then leave the car and take their 5-10 minute shuttle to MCO. They have park and fly rates. The latest was a rate at the Courtyard for 14 days. Most are for 7 days but also have a rate to add extra days. Right now, it’s $149 to stay one night and leave the car for up to 14 days. Round trip on Groome is what, $150 or so… sounds like a deal to me.

shut the front door 07-21-2025 02:14 PM

OP, you may want to do a search on the forum for "Groome". They have declined a lot of the last year or so and there have been many threads from people who were left standing at the airport. Trip advisor gives Groome a whopping TWO stars.
