Congratulations Shaq- you are a Nit Wit. It takes 60 seconds to find public statistics: The Villages is in no way a top place for sexually transmitted diseases. In fact, looking at statistics from the Florida Department of Health, it is at the bottom for cases per 100,000 residents. The State’s overall rate of infection for gonorrhea was 175 per 100,000 population. In Sumter County, where 80% of the population is from The Villages, the infection rate is 39. That contrasts with Leon County, home to the capitol and Florida State U., where the rate is 370. Similarly for rates of chlamydia, the overall rate for Florida is 525.5 while Leon County’s is 1147 and Sumter’s 157.

Could you imagine playing pickleball with Shaq!

dewilson58 07-26-2025 02:12 PM

He would have to live in "the family compound"..........customized house, more land, more privacy.

Out of the 39 how many are over 65? IMO probably less than 5?

High rates or not don’t matter to us that don’t participate. I doubt Shaq will be hanging out at popular bar in LSL..

Velvet 07-26-2025 03:41 PM

I think he’d fit right in. Who doesn’t like to have a little fun?

Thanks for posting statistics that show that the legend about The Villages' being the "STD Capital of the world" is pure fantasy. I heard that this 'fantasy' originated from a psychologist working in The Villages who made a casual remark that they'd never seen so many cases of STD's in any of the locations that they'd worked previously. Good stuff!

Seems like the kind of guy I'd love having as a neighbor.

dcianciolo 07-27-2025 07:22 AM

STD rates......AGAIN!

I'm getting tired of hearing about high STD rates in The Villages. Look at the data from the Florida Health Dept. before you discuss this topic.
We are one of the Green counties (~332 cases / 100k population) on the map at the link below as opposed to the Red counties (~1368 cases / 100k population.

Shaq needs a FL geography lesson to know the difference between Orlando (where he once played) and Ocala.😂

He was joking. He meant that he’d fit right in with a community with a high STD rate. He would of course want the biggest home here and come with a sizable entourage.

Taltarzac725 07-27-2025 10:53 AM

I hope he does not sit in front of me at the Old Mill Playhouse.

loufromnewjersey 07-27-2025 10:54 AM

We will know when Shaq is moving here when he orders his golf cart.

Taltarzac725 07-27-2025 11:43 AM

Can you imagine facing Shaq in pickleball?

I know John Travolta comes to the Villages ' movie theaters on occasion but did not know about Shaq.

His "Joke" is no different than a statement- in that it perpetuates a lie and keeps us having to tell people it isn't true.

If he does come here. I would be curious what he would do for exercise. Obviously, he could lift weights at one of the gyms or his own house. I doubt that he would play basketball with the players here either because his knees are shot or because he would out class them. He could play softball here. If he played 1st base, it would make throws from the rest of the infield a lot easier. They could be less accurate and he could catch a lot of wild throws. He would probably hit a lot of balls over the fence. Maybe he would sign up with the soccer club and be a goalie. I'd like to see him in our Senior Olympics games. He could be a disc jockey here. He could play golf here (of course anybody can play golf). Tennis maybe, depending on his knees. He could start a talk show - we could use one of those. He would have a lot of possibilities - much like most Villagers have.

Thanks for posting. So tired of that false trope. I only hear it from non-villagers.
