Dog days of summer.

Looks just like the stray dog I brought home when I was 8. Called him "Buck". Great family pet.

Caption, " Feed me!"

It may be a coyote. Google pictures of coyotes in Florida. Tell us what you think?

I saw what looked like a loose pooch while coming home from Doggie Doo Run Run years ago with my dog in the back seat in his doggy seat. I slowed down to get beside the wayward pooch and it sped up a little and then crossed Churchill Downs and walked quickly onto Belmont Golf Course. I could see though that I had run into an alpha coyote who was very well fed. I had wanted to call the lost dog over to get it in the car but it seemed to know exactly where it was going.

That picture is a spitting image of that animal I saw . It may not be the same one but could be .

My wife said there was a dog walking across our back yard about a week ago. I looked & it was further away in a wooded area of the golf course and said it was a coyote. It was gone by the time I got my camera. There are reports of coyotes attacking small dogs in TV. Anyway, good job by the OP.

One of the favorite pooches at Doggie Doo Run Run of many of the regulars there got snatched by a coyote in his back yard . They usually take the Chihuahua sized pets . This was quite some time ago though. The dog belonged to one of my favorite families at Doggie Doo Run Run.

I did see a few really skinny coyotes here in the Villages when we moved in the Summer of 2005. Where the Belvedere and Parr Library would eventually be located.

I have not seen any coyotes in this area if the Villages for quite some time.

There are still bobcats though.

Most coyotes in Florida are hybrids. Inter bread with wolfs and domestic dogs.

From google

“But coyotes in the east aren’t quite the same animals you’d see in the California desert. Genetic samples from eastern populations show that they have a mix of coyote, wolf, and dog genetic material, with the majority of their DNA coming from coyotes. Even after years of interbreeding, these eastern coyotes don’t constitute a new species—so “coywolves” aren’t really a thing.”

"You would be panting too if you had this much fur to wear on a hot day."
