Duke electric bill, help I don't understand!
 

1000 sq ft, I use about 900 kW/mo. A/C 3.5 tons 3 years old. Bill was around 90 bucks per month. BUT now Duke adds on fuel charges and the bill goes to over $200.00 per month.

A year and a half ago this all changed. For the pervious 4 years my electric bill was around $ 100 per month. Anyone else seeing this?

Last month base bill was $ 91.00 after fuels charges bill went to $ 202.00

Yup, we love SECO (and more importantly the Florida utility regulators). We typically use a little bit more kilowatt hours per month in our Villages home than our Massachusetts home, but our SECO bill runs about half of our Eversource bill up north. You know that when you’re paying less than 50% per kilowatt hour versus another state that Florida is doing something good.

Take it and be happy don’t broadcast it.
It just encourages the companies to raise fees because people say they are cheap. Duh

$150, 2200 sq ft, 77 degrees inside, 22 year old AC. SECO by the wisdom of their new smart meter says only $60 is for cooling. “Always On” accounts for 30, and that I don’t understand. One Tivo, one TV, one antenna amplifier, a couple of laptop chargers, and a computer, modem and router are all that could be “Always On”. None are high wattage devices.

Maybe water heater, fridge, even smart Tvs and IoT devices ?

We have 2100 sq ft; thermostat at 74 deg for 24/7; added recessed lighting in every room; and a mini-split in garage/workshop which is used 6-8 hrs/wk. Lots of added insulation in the attic and shutters on windows.


Monthly bill in summer runs around $180-190.

I like to show the bill to our friends and relations in California who pay a minimum of twice as much. If their provider is the infamous PG&E, it is more.

Are you even living in the home? My summer bills average $300

My 1500 SF manufactured home is 38 years old. My highest bills are usually July and August, $225 - $250. The rest of the year it averages about $120 - $150. My A/C is set at 76 this year. It was 78 in previous years.

what are you doing freezing meat?? or maybe a ele. pool heater or hot tub???

Don't forget to account for how many electric appliances you have versus gas. A lower electric bill will be possible if you have a gas furnace, dryer, and stove.

Too many variables to compare dollars per month. Perhaps you left town for two weeks.

I have SECO/Electric/Fulltime/Hot tub (doesn't really compare to a pool) and I get concerned if my bill reaches $160 in the summer.

Same here. 2300 sq ft house kept at 72, 400 sq ft enclosed lanai with 2 minisplits kept at 75, large garage with 1 minisplit kept at 78, whole house dehumidifier in attic, plus 1 of 2 carts is electric (Atomic Cool Kart), so it gets charged regularly. And we have a rock waterfall that runs off and on using a remote to control it. Stove and dryer are gas. Last month’s electric bill with SECO was $390. A bargain compared to what we paid for far less electricity in SoCal. We’re happy!

In DP we had SDG&E. My bill in summer was $400+ and that was in the early 2000's. I mean we had a pool with new efficient equipment but NO A/C (ocean adjacent) and it was 20 years ago!
