Prices Will Be Going Down

Wouldn't you just love to get up one day and hear/read on TV, your daily paper, or internet
that prices in general are dropping??? :(

I personally am so sick of the media reporting prices increases every day on food, cars, housing, etc.... and guess what?
We/you/I can't do a dam thing about it except to find a way to cut expenses to get by. :rant-rave:

Now what did I do with my high blood pressure meds.

Nice to hear prices going down but that is deflation and that normally leads to big economic problems.

The media mantra, if it bleeds it leads

Those media stories are mostly click bait.

The inflation rate now is not very different from its average over the long run and much lower than ~1980 when it was double digits. Memories are short.

Whatnext 08-05-2025 02:28 AM

With every day that passes, life expectancy goes down.
Something to cheer us all up.

USOTR 08-05-2025 05:22 AM

Just another example of our mass media telling us something we already know. Or they advise us of FAKE news.. I don't know which is worse.

rsmurano 08-05-2025 05:33 AM

Prices of milk st things have gone down. Have you looked at your stock portfolio? It’s been skyrocketing, so why would anybody have to cut expenses?

Overall, prices will not go down. Due to the inflation between 2021 and 2024, the 2020 dollar is now worth 80 cents. (That's why the dollar store now sells for $1.25.). Supply and demand and markets will continue to operate as they always have, but the damage done is permanent.

Ponygirl 08-05-2025 06:14 AM

Many dollar store items that were $1.00 then $1.25 are now $1.50

RoseyRed 08-05-2025 06:29 AM

real news would be...

Real news would be prices have went "Down"!

Just like if companies would stop posting "Now hiring" signs. Attention would be more drawn to "Not hiring, we are fully staffed"

Where were 7% mortgages when I purchased my first few homes?

BillyGrown 08-05-2025 06:39 AM

Yes

True, and the prices on homes have been going down here. Why people don’t see bargains is beyond me. 7% mortgages and price decreases of 8-10% equal great business decisions.

Skyrocketing? The Dow is up 500 points from what it was last Friday, yes, but down a thousand points from what it was at its height several weeks ago and from what it was last December. The market isn’t skyrocketing. It’s going up and down. It was down three thousand points in February but is back up a lot since then. That’s a relief. But I’m still waiting to make up what I lost earlier in the year. Gas is still about the same.

Since I’ve been born prices have NEVER gone down. Sure May flex little but always go up. We have been fortunate due labor rate most time go up with higher prices. G. always cause prices to go up. Eventually be third world country where currency nearly worthless. IMO in 20 years the yen will be top currency and dollar will be worth about as much as peco. And like Roman Empire it will happen all because greed. And it all our G. fault.

rustyp 08-05-2025 08:20 AM

On the brighter side gas is $1.99/gal.

Ptmcbriz 08-05-2025 08:26 AM

A couple years ago my monthly food budget was $600-$800. The same meal plan now I’m spending $1000-$1200. That’s the only gauge I need on what the economy is doing.

Lottoguy 08-05-2025 08:37 AM

I guess the $5 dollar bill is the new $1 dollar bill with no more pennies. 😟🤑

rsmurano 08-05-2025 08:41 AM

Buy and hold will not make you money in the long run. I got out at the end of last year, got back in the 1st week of April, made tons tons of money since 1st week of April (enough money to live on for the next 10 years with a 6-digit budget), and I’m back out of the market waiting for the next dip. I’m missing out on some decent gains the last 2 days but I’m ok with that. I buy back in on the next big dip

Median home price lowest ever

David from Florida Realty Investments made the major announcement on his most recent YouTube video that the median home price for homes here in the Villages has finally dipped to below 250 dollars a square foot for the first time. Wherever the bottom is, one thing for sure is prices are dropping. If inflation on homes is checked it could be yet another reason for the Fed to lower the prime lending rate?

Thanks for my morning laugh. Unfortunately it is also sad but true.

Back to the Thread…we noticed that dairy is down but the price of all else for food is up

I don't know about "yet another." It certainly would be an indicator but there are many indicators and not all (not many?) are pointing that direction. I'm glad I'm not responsible for making the decision.

Are homes here selling at a loss or are they just not making the profits they were a few years ago? I know of one that bought high in 2022 and sold low just this year but that may be the exception.

Something to cheer us all up.

Heat exhaustion and death is going UP in the US. I believe that life expectancy is going up in the Scandinavian Countries and Switzerland. In the US, life spans will DECREASE in the future due to fewer people on Medicaid.

The LOWER 25 % of US society (that don't have money in the stock market) are the ones that feel themselves sliding backward on the economic scale. A.I. and robotics are beginning to replace factory workers and other workers.

Plenty can be done about it, however I can’t be specific on this forums!

Are property values down?

You'll be able to see any changes when your TRIM notice comes out towards the end of the month.

The governor is currently working on getting our property taxes removed. Unfortunately the plan calls for taxing the snot out of businesses.

As far as current taxing structure, what politician in his or her right mind would decrease the tax base? I think we all know there will never be a day when the county will decrease the value of your home so they can collect less taxes. Sure, our homes are worth less than 3 years ago, but don’t count on a refund check.

Most prescription drugs come from China and we haven't gotten a TARIFF deal with them yet, so those drug prices will INCREASE.
