They without question are Good, however they need to be Excellent for the $$$$++ for me they simply are not worth it.

Walmart & Fresh Market have similar, not as fancy but decent. Publix are a waste of time.:spoken:

Try Red Rooster Cookie Jar in Lady Lake. Small store, owned by local woman, makes great cookies and does local neighborhood social presentations. Well worth checking her out

We have been a big fan of Gideon’s in Orlando since it opened in 2016. Then opened in Disney Springs.

Gideon’s has 6-7 base cookies available everyday. They weigh 6oz are well formed thick cookies. A special cookie available monthly. Have never had a cookie, cake or cold brew that you didn’t want more. Cookies are $6. There is a limit at Disney Springs of 6 at times.

Crumble changes cookies every week. Some ok some not really worth bringing home. Their cookies are 4-4.5oz thin to medium body, price range just under $5 with up charge for some items. Problem with Crumble you get a discount on larger purchases, but I rarely find a week that I like more than one or two flavors.

If our family visits I drive to Gideon’s.

Topspinmo 08-20-2025 08:25 PM

For me only cookie I am interested in macadamia… not dark chocolate fan….

It would be nice if the city of Wildwood would work to get a legal crossing for golf carts in that area. There is no incentive for the Villages to do it but I would certainly patronize Culver's, Crumbl, First Watch, and Lowes more often if I could get there by cart.

I haven't had a chance to try a Crumbl cookie yet.

No golf cart access? That's a pain .

dtennent 08-21-2025 07:35 AM

Excellent cookies aren’t that hard to make. In the time it takes to go to a store and buy the cookies, you would be half way through making a batch. Besides, we are retired with lots of time on our hands. I know this because you are taking the time to read this forum!

In the time it takes me to go to the store and buy a cookie I would be eating the cookie, not half way through making a batch. (and you didn't consider the time it took to go to the store to buy the ingredients)

There is something nice about purchasing the number of cookies I want to eat rather than storing over a dozen for later.

I prefer the homemade cookies in our house with some left for the cookie jar and they freeze very well for later.:icon_hungry:

If you haven't tried this yet, freeze the dough before cooking. Takes a little longer since you have to cook it first but it will be warm and taste fresher.

Or I could walk, or I could take an Uber, or I could order Uber Eats, or I could ask my neighbor to pick some up for me.....

There are any number of ways to get there but it would be more convenient if my preferred way was an option.

Taltarzac725 08-21-2025 08:11 AM

Is there a new Outback Steakhouse around there? I also heard about a new Target?

But, you didn’t consider money saved or if someone has the ability to make cookies? IMO that’s why they go buy them??? :icon_wink:

To be honest, cookies are my weakness. You can have all the pies and cakes, give me COOKIES! So when there is a newly baked batch in the house filling it with wonderful aromas, they don't last longer than a few days. It's a treat so we don't bake or eat them often for a reason.

Yeah, I did consider that.

I can buy three cookies...

OR

I can buy five pounds of flour, five pounds of sugar, a bag of brown sugar, a box of salt, tins of baking soda and cinnamon, a lemon to squeeze, a bottle of vanilla extract, a bag of walnuts, and a dozen eggs. Then I buy electricity to heat the oven for an hour. When I'm done I'll have a couple dozen cookies but I will have spent more than just buying three.

Sometimes I would rather pay more per cookie at somewhere like Crumbl than buy all the supplies I would need to make two dozen of each of the varieties available at Crumbl.

There is a price for convenience - sometimes it is worth it.

Taltarzac725 08-21-2025 08:38 AM

Wow, no stocked pantry? But then I forget from time to time that some people don't use their kitchens. I can only speak for myself but I've never eaten a store-bought cookie that tastes better than homemade.

Me neither. I am usually in the Southern Trace, Sumter Landing or 441/27 areas. Had gotten to other areas when the Barnstorm Theater as well as the Rialto were open.

I get them when I have a BOGO bundtlet coupon. They're okay, but not great. I already have most of the ingredients I need to make my own cookies. At the moment I have all the ingredients I need to make Italian wedding cookies, shortbread, and oatmeal-raisin cookies. I pretty much always have THOSE ingredients in the house all the time. I've never had a store-bought hamentashen in Florida that I've actually liked, mine are infinitely better so when I'm in the mood for those, I'll go to Fresh Market and buy the dried apricots and prunes to make my own filling. And when I want to make a cake, I usually stick with Betty Crocker or Duncan Hines, and pick up unsweetened chocolate to make my own frosting from scratch. It's like, an extra $5 for the cake mix and chocolate, not a big deal, and I can just add it to my weekly grocery trip.

Most kitchens has flour, sugar, spices, vanilla, salt, baking soda, and a cook. Now will admit may have to go buy specialty ingredients one likes, for me only macadamia….. I also make my own coffee for 9 cents cup. Or I could go to Starbucks and takeout loan for cup of coffee? :eclipsee_gold_cup:

We go to Disney every 4 weeks, for 2-3 days. Zip over to DS for Gideon’s, as long as the line is less than an hour. (The longest wait was 2 hours and 46 minutes that I know of).
We buy one each of Pistachio Toffee Chocolate Chip, Peanut Butter Crunch, and Triple Chocolate. One slice of True Red Velvet, and a Peanut Butter Cold Brew. The cookies are so large 1/4 is more than enough at a sitting. We freeze them cutting in (1.5oz) quarters.

The cake takes us 3-4 days at 6-7 layers it’s a large slice. I make traditional Southern Red Velvet cake, but it just too much, unless all the kids come down.

My Triple Chocolate Traverse City Cherry Cookies are 5oz, I make a batch keep a few and ship the rest to our sons. I don’t bake with sugar, only local honey or stevia fresh leaf.

Always grab a couple of Chocolate Chip cookies at the Costco Food Court. We bring some home to freeze, but they hand them to you warm, and can't stop biting until it's gone. We also thaw them, and 10-15 seconds in the micro brings them back. I think they're worth the $2.49 each

We have been getting these for special occasions for about five years.

Very good. I am not a Foodie though. My brother had sent these about five years back for Mother's Day and I tried some and soon found an excuse to order some myself.

Unlike most replies I will give you a straight up 100% answer.

Yes Outback & Target are both located in Trailwinds shopping plaza. Both are open for business,
Target just opened so I would give it 3-4 more days, before going the new store just opened " Madness " is alive & in full Throttle !
Plus they handed out a $10.00 Coupon which has added to the " Madness ". :rant-rave:

I love the original Toll House chocolate chip cookies. I can buy the dough already made, then just separate them on a cookie sheet and in a few minutes I'm enjoying them.

I have southern recipes that date back to 1800s handwritten from great great grands and forward. They all use sugar.

The Triple chocolate is from German side of family who raised 🐝. So only honey is used, depending on what type you use changes the amount.
I have tried to convert to sugar but it never comes out the same. I added to the 130yo recipe traverse city, cherries, changing clover honey to forest honey.

My recipe would be set you up to fail until I can switch it to sugar

I can’t wrap my mind around the fact that so many people never leave the small circumference of where they live!!
In the last week we have shopped in the new Target, had lunch in Middleton and driven around Spanish Springs to see the renovations. Oh..and played golf at Orange Blossom!

I have no problem using honey. I keep star thistle honey from Sleeping Bear Farms in my pantry.

Why not just give the recipe and let the poster play with it? Many of us are experienced bakers.

World traveler, are you?

In the past week I've been up to Palmer, over to Leesburg (by car, an exception), and expect to be at Sawgrass today but it has been a slow week due to having work done on my house. When I'm home I travel by golf cart if at all possible which means I'll choose destinations that are golf cart accessible and the Trailwinds area is not. My "small circumference" has a radius of 11 miles which is pretty much the full extent of the Villages.

I just didn't happen to have a need to go to ABC or Lowes in the past 30 days to see what had recently opened in that area.

Her cookies are outstanding. And reasonable. I believe they also deliver. I highly recommend
red Rooster. She is also a small business person, trying to make it, and deserves support.
Btw, she is a Villager.
