We chose Alan Byer 352-205-7504 on recomendations we picked up here on TOTV. He did an excellent job and the only followup you'll have to do is paint what you'll see when the stairs are folded and in the upright position. If he will paint it on request, I don't know. We didn't ask!

We used Hill Gutters. 352-245-7462. Yep, the gutter guys. When the installed our gutters Mr. Hill said they did alot more than gutters. We told him we needed the attic stairs installed. They were out the next day, did the installation at a good price and did a great job of cleaning up after themselves.
I called them this year and asked to have a downspout re-directed. This downspout was one installed by the builder. Mr. Hill came out the next day and did the job. No charge. A real classy outfit to deal with.

We used Abshier(ASM) in Sumter Landing, excellent job, quick to get the job done, even sent someone out to inspect the work.

memason 03-18-2011 06:16 AM

We used Tim the Toolman - Tim Miller... Phone:352-217-0561

Tim showed up when he said he would, adhered to his quoted price and cleaned up after the job.

I got the recommendation for Tim, right here on TOTV...

We also used Alan Byer for our WOOD attic stairs - excellent job!

But if I might ask - why do you want aluminum?

Russ.... We did aluminum, but if I had to do it over again, I think I would just go with wood. We've always had wood, in other homes and I thought that aluminum might be a bit more sturdy... I don't remember there being a huge price difference between the two....

Halle 03-18-2011 09:33 AM

We had Bernie Coluccio (518 461 1805) install our wood attic stairs and also add additional flooring. He is a Villager and does many different types of home improvement projects. He did a great job. I highly recommend him.

Aluminum is obviously lighter than wood and can be just as sturdy.
Might be easier for the ladies to pull up an down?

Actually my son is having aluminum attic stairs installed for his house.
Will see how I like it and can't wait to have to do it in TV.

22 months to go! ( maybe a little more but unfortunately not less)

I chose aluminum over wood only because I can't climb stairs and my wife would have to do the climbing. I read here on TOTV that the aluminum has a railing where wood does not and I thought that would be safer for her.

Makes sense.

Thanks! But it's probably just as well this way. If I could climb up, my wife would probably just put the stairs up and nail it shut!

Also used Tim Miller of Miller's Home Services at (352) 217-0561 for aluminum garage attic stairs. I did my own painting. He was on time and did a great job.

laryb 03-18-2011 03:44 PM

Out of curiosity, does anyone that has aluminum attic stairs with rails had a problem getting a large or awkward object in the attic because the rails get in the way? Trying to decide which way to go. I'll be installing it myself.

We wanted to use Tim Miller but he never returned my calls. I thought he was out of business but then heard he was doing work for others.

call Alan Byer at 352-205-7504. His price is right and service is as promised. Both aluminum and wood stairs have a railing. Wood stairs are cheaper.

We have Aluminum stairs from Tim The Tool man who did a nice job on the attic stairs and epoxy floor in the garage. We choose alum because it has a higher weight capacity. We also had Tim paint it since we are part timers and we didn't want paint stored in the garage. But to your question about the railing, the railing is not normally the problem when trying to put up bulkier items, it is the hinges that get in the way,so wood or aluminum most likely have the same issue.
When buying plastic tubs you need to buy the smaller ones so the hinges will not foul you up.

I second that. He also installed some attic flooring for me. Very happy with his work. And his price was reasonable.

I also used Bernie Coluccio for my attic stairs. He gave a good price and did a great job, and even painted the pull down and trim to match the ceiling as part of his service.

I would definitely recommend Bernie Coluccio for this job and any other handyman job you might have. Very reliable fellow, and a good neighbor.

Our friends were told that the ceiling drywall in the garage is a necessary part of fire protection. So they had the contractor screw the panel back onto the stairway cover, and adjust the springs for the extra weight. Has anyone else done that?

mulligan 04-09-2011 01:37 PM

That's why the builder doesn't install them. Won't pass life safety inspection by fire dep't.

buzzy 04-10-2011 08:19 PM
