Which Country Club Rest. would be best?

I want to have a party for about 10 to 15 people next time we are down at our house. I would like a place that has good food, good service and a place (perferably outside) where we could be seated at close tables. Price is not a factor. Where would you suggest? Thanks.

golfnut 04-02-2011 09:34 PM

Cane Garden, hands down....gn

Lighthouse on Lake Sumter has outside seating with a nice view of the lake and LSL, good food and good service.

chuckinca 04-02-2011 10:57 PM

My Bad -

No CC will handle your group as you wish and most of them have food that is subpar, Cattle Baron's food isn't very good either, try the Lighthouse on Lake Sumter.

Glenview Country Club

Friends of ours brought us to the Glenview CC, the only CC we've been to so far. We were impressed and really enjoyed the meal. It certainly looked like a place that could easily accommodate a group outdoors. Check their webpage at: http://www.searchthevillages.com/vil...w-country-club or http://www.glenviewrestaurant.com/

If you are having a party with some friends, maybe you want entertainment. Alot of places have early entertainment like from 5 - 9 or so. That would be fun if you wanted to get some dancing in.

We were at Glenview a week ago Friday with a group of 12. They wouldn't seat us at one table or at adjacent tables. Asked to talk to the Mgr and was told that one waiter couldn't serve 12 people at one time. (he was doing fine with our table of 8 and an adjacent table of 4). We go out every Friday night with this group and was never told we were an extreme burden to the wait staff at other places. Will not be returning to Glenview very soon.

The Lighthouse had outside entertainment last night, country and western singer, very loud, which made it difficult to talk.

I understand that you're looking for a Country Club Restaurant and I think Lopez has the best reputation. I used to love Palmers but not so much lately. Came Garden has nice ambiance on the outside patio, but I find the food at most Country Clubs is just OK.

My personal favourite for good food at a restaurant is Bonefish.

graciegirl 04-03-2011 09:08 AM

Cane is able

to do that.

I like the lighthouse outside.

and Toojays, outside.

If you want country CLUB and ambiance, Lopez. (Also higher prices.)

Bonny 04-03-2011 09:32 AM

I love going to Cattle Baron. I think the food, food choices & prices are great. I like sitting out on the balcony having drinks before going in for dinner.

Your experience is unfortunately for sure. Seems like they should have been able to accomodate, but I don't know the circumstances of this occasion. Did you make reservations in advance or was your group a walk-in group where your initial place of assigned seating was a problem? I don't know! Anyway, my wife and I both remember there being at least one group of at least 12 that was seated together outdoors. So I would think that a lack of reservations and a sudden request may have been an influencing factor in your experience. Of course I could be wrong, but either way there are always two sides to a situation... what is seemingly apparant and what may not be readily apparent!

Wowser, another gem. After four years, I'm still learning new stuff from reading TOTV. I like the Cattle Baron, we've gone there quite a bit. I had no idea you could have drinks out on the balcony! Thanks Bonny!!

I was thinking of a Thursday, sunday or Monday night, hopefully it wouldn't be quit as busy. I am willing to pay extra for an extra server if need be.

We had a reservation - were seated at the precise time of the reservation (all 12 of our party had checked in). there was an empty table for four right next to the round table for eight but they wouldn't give it to us and sat four of us a ways away.

I wasn't aware that Glenview took reservations, I thought they were strickly first come/first serve..... Good to know

chuckinca 04-04-2011 11:20 AM

Maybe only for larger groups? And maybe only for larger groups at certain times?

We usually meet at 4:30. Got to Glenview at 4:25, waited a few minutes for the last four people to arrive. Someone told the hostess we were all present and we were immediately seated.

As an alternative to a country club if that doesn't work out, perhaps you may want to look into Red Sauce. They have a side room that is bordered by some outdoor seating. That might be a place you can all be together...

Cane Garden and Lopez can do a good job as well, but we haven't
been there for a while.

Just to give you an update. I have tried serveral times to call and set up a party at the Waterfront Inn's resturant and can't get anyone to take my call or call me back. I am going to call Cane Garden tomorrow and see if I have any better luck.

faithgirl 04-16-2011 09:46 AM

large groups

Havana CC accommodates large groups and offers call ahead seating. We had a 20 top on thursday they got us right in on the patio no problem. They were booked solid with entertainment but the manager did all they could to do what we asked and we had a great time. Food was excelent service was great overall a really great experience. :MOJE_whot:

I would stay away from Glenview, I heard the owners do not like large groups

Glenview is always a nice place to eat - whether it is for 2 or for 15. No problems with service and the food is always excellent.

Go there for Sunday brunch and order the Bird Dog Breakfast. It is so good and will keep you filled up.

Cane Garden for Mother's Day

For those of you who have been to Cane Garden recently, what do you think the chances would be for two being seated for lunch on Mother's Day?
I haven't been in a while and checked to find out they will not be taking reservations.:icon_hungry:

Thanks....

swrinfla 05-03-2011 03:27 PM

My two cents worth:

I've tried a couple of times to arrange for parties of 15-20 for lunch (which is considerably different than dinner at any eatery anywhere). Both events were in mid-February, so TV was full!

Cane Garden wouldn't even consider a reservation. They worked hard to accommodate my party, but we were all over the place! Okay, but not what I'd have liked!

Mallory Hill was happy to take a reservation, and did not force us to all be there together before seating us. Tables of eight next to each other. Very satisfied!

The food has never been gourmet at either place, but it has never been awful/bad/horrible either!

I've also been a member of "large" parties at Glenview (barely acceptable), Palmer Legend (lots of confusion), and Lopez Legacy (totally worth the higher prices).
