Golf cart across 466

I know the rules about driving my cart across 466. However I can push my bicycle across. Why couldn't I push my golf cart across if it is not running. Just because it has 4 wheels should not make a difference. Just playing devils advocate.

Very good point

I've wondered that very same thing! Not to mention a pedestrian!

This is just a guess, but, maybe because a golf cart is a motorized vehicle?

Do you mean pushing it across while someone else is steering? Because when you push a bike you are usually the one steering so that may make a difference?

Someone should ask "Officer Seat Belt" the question. That should make his day.

I agree. Both are not license vehicles yet bicycles seem to have more privileges.

Can I cross 466 with a motorcycle? How about a moped? Motor scooter? How about a motorized wheelchair? Why not a golf cart? Is it because golf carts go too slow.. I dont think so... they go faster than my bike, my feet, moped, or a motorized wheelchair.
Ok.. now lets talk about the REASON for the rule. Is it to keep people from ENTERING the villages on golf carts so they have to have it apply to all roads of a similar type, not just those surrounding the villages?

This is America.... anyone has the right to push their golf car across CR 466. That being said, one MUST remember that in Florida, a law officer could "opt" to "BAKER ACT" the person pushing the golf car. NOW, the golf car pusher ends up at The Villages Regional Hospital. The golf car is towed as a traffic hazard. The person gets a "mental health" evaluation... and ..could be sent to a special place with pretty pink walls that are made out of rubber. Just a thought. ( BUT not a very good thought).

Question

I don't understand why you would want to push a golf cart across 466 when there 2 tunnels are available?? Please explain.

Leafpoker 07-22-2011 07:07 AM

Push it to best buy

Ok I don't want to 466, I want to be able to take my cart to best buy , and just push it across the road. If I can walk my 3 wheeled bicycle across why not my golf cart. My wife can cross in her wheelchair.

If you're wanting to get to Best Buy, the road you're probably thinking of wanting to cross is Rolling Acres Rd.

Bill :)

Try it and see what happens!

To answer Chacam, Florida Statutes, Title XXIII - Motor Vehicles, Section 316 - State Uniform Traffic Control gives all the answers. It's loooooooooong - so be prepared to read a lot. Section 316.212 covers Operation of Golf Carts on Certain Roadways. Once you digest all that and think you understand, then the exceptions start. It appears (to me) that counties, cities, municipalities, and maybe even some businesses (i.e. golf courses) can make exceptions to the state rules. Also some agencies (i.e. law enforcement) may disregard some state rules when operating a golf cart on "offical business" as may some of the municipal roadway maintenance crews.

Several months ago when the runnel on CR 103 was closed and before they established the 4 way stop to allow crossing just north of the tunnel, my wife asked one of the county officers if it was legal to push our cart across the road. His response was "of course you can, but I'd like to see you do it."

It may not be feasible to push your cart across any street that has any type of incline in either direction. Even though these things roll pretty easy, I think you might have a problem if you were to have to push it uphill. It would be much easier if you had a passenger that was able to get out and help push. Before I tried anything like that, I think I would try pushing uphill somewhere legal.

I don't think I would ever attempt crossing 466 or 466A that way. I'd like to cross Rolling Acres to get to some of the stores over there also.
