This is the right forum because it has nothing to do with politics, unless you want to admit that politics are at the root of this country's problems. Still this message needs to be in all possible forums.:BigApplause:

Most of this is exactly what common everyday grass-routes Americans, who are being demonized and vilified by being called racists, neo-Klansmen, knuckle-dragging hillbillies and every other nasty undeserved comment under the sun, have been trying to say for more than a few years now! Thanks for the videos!

President Obama has bent over backwards to accomodate the teapartiers who have decided to hold this country hostage until they get their way. Tax rates are lower then when Reagan was president and it is not fair to cut the safety net for those less fortunate. In polls the majority of Americans agree with the president on this issue.

Given the surplus of histronics and the lack of complete disclosure, it doesn't surprise me that the majority of Americans agree with the president on "this issue," providing that is on what your preception of "this issue" is of course! Under normal circumstances I would agree with you (in part at least) on what you're saying. However, when it becomes necessary to prevent an inevitable derailment of government, comprimise is not always possible. As they say in the Kenny Rogers song, Coward of the County... "Sometimes you gotta fight when you're a man!"

IMHO, the American people spoke loud and clear in the election last November when they overwhelmingly elected Republicans to Congress, and what they were saying to Washington was NOT to allow the derailment of government, but rather to have the courage to fight to keep government from a catastropic future and not comprimise (what you refer to as hostage holding) in that objective, even when under the political atmosphere of fear mongering and charactor assassination.

Is there room for comprimise in this case? There should be! But an increase in US debt of over 3 Trillion over the past couple of years has made comprimise a virtual mission impossible if that debt is to be prevented from escillating to a point of governmental collapse once it grows beyond America's ability to ever recover, and I'm sure none of us want that!

sammy8duck, how has he bent over backwards? What polls are you reading? What leadership has he provided to resolve this problem? The answer is none. Please look at the facts before you make these statements.

Your "teapartiers" have created, written and passed two bills in the House of Representatives to resolve this issue. Both bills were sent to the Senate controlled by Harry Reid where they were tabled. No vote allowed. He did not want the Senators to have to go on record as opposed so he tabled them and allowed no vote.

How many bills has the Senate passed? NONE. Not their job? Wrong. It is with in their power to take either bill passed by the House and change it, modify, re-write, vote on it and send it back to the house. They have not done that. They just say "I don't like those bills, send us a third one" Again no leadership.

Mr Obama has provided no bill to resolve this problem. Not his job? Wrong again. Any president can create a bill, send it to the house for sponsorship and be voted on. Name one? Obama Care. Created by this president, sponsored by Nancy Polsi and passed by the House, sent to the Senate and passed again. And that bill is the one that helped create this current crisis.

Several presidents have had this same exact problem and all provided the leadership to get it done. Harry Truman, Dwight Eisenhower, John Kennedy, Lyndon Johnson, Richard Nixon, Jimmy Carter, Ronald Reagan, Bill Clinton, and George Bush. And several had to do it with a House and Senate controlled by the other party.

Our president has provided no leadership to resolve this problem. So far all he has done is criticize those actions taken by others. It's OK to throw stones if you have a better plan, he does not have that right as he has no plan. And if you say he does, I will ask you what it is. So far it is only rhetoric.

Guest 08-01-2011 02:03 AM

Well the deal has been made so we will all live on happy and rich now. The vote on Monday will finalize the debate.

Guest 08-01-2011 06:33 AM

There is a giant leadership vacuum in Washington, DC that isn't just one party. Everyone involved in this issue has shown a lack of leadership. Every dollar currently being spent by the government was included in a bill already passed by the Congress. Every dollar! But now, when the debt limit must be raised to accommodate all of that profligate spending, they don't have the courage to pass it. Cowards every one. It's no different than if you and I went on a bender and spent many thousands on our credit cards, then simply refused to make the payment at the end of the month. If we were really mad as hell, we would vote them all out. But we won't - it's never OUR representative's fault. This belongs in Political, for sure.

Oh you are so right on this...a friend and I were talking about this last night and made the same comment as to why things never do change in Washington.....everything is always caused by "someone else".....sort of like the "he did it" who lived in my house when I had children at home. My kids never caused any messes or mischief it was all done by "he did it". :D

The agreements made by all those Presidents were a compromise. Ronald Reagen agreed to raise taxes along with cutting costs. The tea partiers refused to compromise.

Does it occur to you that "the tea partiers" did what their constituents elected them to do?

If their constituents had wanted otherwise, they would have voted for the ones who absolutely refuse to stop the drunken spending and printing of money out of thin air, digging us further and further into debt and interest payments that are beyond comprehension!

These elected congressmen have a responsibility to do what their constituents tell them to do, NOT what others around the nation want. It would be irresponsible of them to do otherwise!

Don't bet on it! They may cut back over 3 trillion in spending now, but don't be surprised if new spending exceeding that amount is created in the future resulting in a net increase in spending over the cutback period!

BTW, for those who say vote them all out of office, well that's exactly what the tea partiers did last November in the majority of cases. And now it's still being advocated that those they voted in also be voted out next time, even though they are doing exactly what was expected of them by the citizens that voted them in. What sense does that make?

If your representative, senator or president makes every reasonable and apparant attempt to do what you voted them in to do, then reward them when their re-election comes up. But if they don't, then kick their sorry butts out to the street!

They keep calling for compromise, but how can you have compromise when one side says raise the debt limit and the other side says Do not raise the debt limit......there is no room for compromise........one side has to back down and in the case it was the Republicans.......they caved and I hope they all get voted out.

It's just a Civil War all over again...

..."Brother against Brother"...Republican vs. Democrat vs. Teapartier... but it's not about North and South anymore, it's East and West...depending upon what side of the "Aisle" your seated on.

These idiots cannot get anything done towards improving the situation we're facing today, for the fighting, bickering, backstabbing and "ME ME ME" inmature mentality that they are famous for...and have been forever.

If this hint of a "Civil War" is not resolved soon it will escalate into...you guessed it...the next Revolutionary War! The American people will be fighting for Independance from their very own government. Sounds pretty damn socialist to me!...if not dictatorial at the least ! Our personal freedoms are being stripped away at an ALARMING rate !

History has a way of repeating itself! This is EXACTLY how and why the Roman Empire fell. 100's of years of this very same thing we are witnessing today, here...resulted in it's collapase in less than a decade.

A decade from "Riches to Ruin"...BUT...it took 100's of years to lay the groundwork.

Congress Reform act!

It doesn't matter if you are Democrat, Republican or whatever......, is Congress really in touch with us?

The 26th amendment (granting the right to vote for 18 year-olds) took only 3 months & 8 days to be ratified! Why? Simple! The people demanded it. That was in 1971... before computers, before e-mail, before cell phones, etc.

Of the 27 amendments to the Constitution, seven (7) took 1 year or less to become the law of the land . .. . all because of public pressure.

I'm asking each person to forward this email to a minimum of twenty people on their address list; in turn ask each of those to do likewise.

In three days, most people in the United States of America will have the message. This is one idea that really should be passed around.

Congressional Reform Act of 2011

1. Term Limits.

12 years only, one of the possible options below.

A. Two Six-year Senate terms

B. Six Two-year House terms

C. One Six-year Senate term and three Two-Year House terms

2. No Tenure/No Pension.

A Congressman collects a salary while in office and receives no pay when s/he is out of office.

3. Congress (past, present & future) participates in Social Security.

All funds in the Congressional retirement fund move to the Social Security system immediately. All future funds flow into the Social Security system, and Congress participates with the American people.

4. Congress can purchase its own retirement plan, just as all Americans do.

5. Congress will no longer vote themselves a pay raise. Congressional pay will rise by the lower of CPI or 3%.

6. Congress loses their current health care system and participates in the same health care system as the rest of the American people.

7. Congress must abide equally by all laws they impose on the American people.

8. All contracts with past and present Congress are void effective 1/1/12 .

The American people did not make this contract with Congress. Congressmen made all these contracts for themselves.

Serving in Congress is an honor, not a career. The Founding Fathers envisioned citizen legislators, so ours should serve their term(s), then go home and back to work.

If each person contacts a minimum of twenty people, then it will only take three days for most people (in the US) to receive the message. Maybe it is time.

LET'S FIX CONGRESS!!! If you agree, pass it on.

Shouldn't this be on Political?
Just askin'

Guest 08-01-2011 08:02 PM

Thank you... You are correct...

Also... I found out it was not correct in that our congressmen do pay into SS.

Thank you again! :highfive:

Yes, the majority of the American people - so say the polls - agree that taxes should be raised on those making over $250,000. The Republicans need to get their act together and eradicate the Tea Party hostage takers. BTW, Reagan raised taxes 8 times. And, who made Grover Norquist the King anyway? I'm a Republican and Reagan would be ashamed of what has happened to his party!

I own a small business and I'm ready to pay back this country for my success in the form of taxes - in addition to all the volunteer work I do. We need to get this country moving again - so Republicans need to stop complaining and start compromising. :spoken:

How about "paying back this country" by offering additional jobs to people in your small business?

To me, it seems that anyone who thinks income earners and small business owners making $250,000 are "rich" and "should pay more" don't know what it costs to employ people.
