Age to move to The Villages?
 

Would anyone consider 70yo to be too late in life to move to TV. Don't know if I would want to up and start over @ that stage of life. Thanks:(

Heck no!! You would be far from the oldest guy here, and I play golf with people in their 70's on a regular basis. I am 61 and am considered the kid in my group.

I have made more friends in the 2+ years I've been here than in my 25 years in my prior residence in N.J. It's a challenge to keep up with all the other active seniors here.

Come on down for a Preview Visit. You won't be disappointed.

trust me, 70 is not old anywhere, but particularly here its isnt!

My husband is 68, his mom and dad are in their middle 90's. Thirty years is a loooong time to miss out on doing something fun. We're moving down and we are going to thoroughly enjoy how ever many years we have left. Go for it!! I know too many senior citizens that spend their lives alone because it's too hard to make new friends, my dad did that, retired in his mid 50's, sat on the couch to watch tv and stayed there until he developed dementia by the age of 70 and died at 73. I swear, if he had gone to the Villages, he would still be around! He thought it was too hard to go out to meet new people and enjoy life. I refuse to do that and you should too!

:thumbup:I and my wife came down in our seventies and if anything, we are now younger. I play golf with ritchie and he does have a hard time keeping up with me.

The best age to move to TV? As soon as you possibly can!!!

Three people in my family were in their nineties and still got around like the "Energizer Bunny". :)

I'm 66 and my husband was 74 in March. We visited TV for the first time in Feb. and we moved in to our new home in Tamarind Grove on June 27th. It was the smartest thing we've ever done.

I say go for it. :thumbup: Life is not a dress rehearsal...so much to see and do in TV. Like I said in another post, if you cannot find at least one club or activity or class that you are interested in, you had better check your pulse. I would call the TV sales office and schedule a Lifestyle Preview Visit to see if TV is really for you. Good luck!

i don't think there is any magic number. Probably the sooner you get here the better it is for your health, so if you feel up to it at 70 i would get down here asap. It should be easier to meet more people in a place like the villages than just moving to some ordinary place. I would be surprised if you did not like it .it is an amazing place with a charissma that just cannot be described.{i probably misspelled that}

Young Moe.........I say that because I'm older than you are and I'm telling you strait out that if you don't come down here and take a lifestyle visit , you will be cheating yourself out of the best time of your life......
I retired in the panhandle of Florida and came down here headed for Tampa for a cruise and toured the area.....I came back for a week and bought a house ......Its the darnedest place I've ever seen.........At age 70 your going to be shocked to see how young you are compared to everyone else...Last summer I played with a guy who was 92 and he was walking the course , I offered him a ride in my cart but he wasn't interested......A side note to that story is that he was hitting consistently 10 yds short on every hole and I asked him why he played from the blues , if he played from the whites he would be on the green nearly every time...He stated that he had always played the blues sense he was a young man and he always would.....I could see my suggestion was not going anywhere so I shut up but he was a great guy......(true story).....so pack your bag and take a chance ,,,,you'll love it...

If you are 70 when you move in, you will soon be 60.

I would say it is never too late to make a change that will improve your quality of life. My wife and I are in our middle 50s but blessed to have made the right decisions throughout our careers that allow us to enjoy TV at an earlier stage in our life. I have played golf with some guys in their middle to late 80s and they are still enjoying life, even when they triple bogey! Another senior lives at Freedom Point (Assisted Living) but still plays golf 3 times a week.

I have heard several times that the Villagers live longer then the average senior up north. I believe it. Do yourself a favor and make the move to TV. It will be one of the best things you do in your senior years. :thumbup:

My wife and I are 73. Bought a CYV in early 2009 to have a winter place. After four one week, to one month visits, we pulled the plug and are moving to TV for the duration on 9/1/11. My Kids and grandchildren visited for a month and loved it here. We play golf 3-5 times a week , eat out frequently, travel to other venues, have friends "down to visit", and wish we had been here several ago. Some say that this is not a place for everyone, but I can't think about whom they refering. :D

Congrats. It sounds like you feel younger when you are in TV. :)

My new next door neighbor is a female that is 83. Don't think 70 is too old at all!

HelenLCSW -- From what I've heard, once you move to TV you age backwards. In about 6 months you will be back to age 40! :). Seriously I think it's great, and I hope you enjoy every moment of your new home in Sanibel.

Now that people are actually living in Sanibel, I'd better go check out to see how things have changed in Sanibel since my last visit to TV in July. So Sanibelers I will be checking out your village next month when I'm back in TV.

Great advice from jadlos. Moe, no worries about starting over in The Villages. You'll soon have a bushel full of friends. IMHO, you couldn't pick a better place to spend your Golden Years, and I wish you many more!

Old is a state of mind not a number based on a calendar year. From what I've been reading here it is near impossible to be "old" in TV. Just by moving there ones state of mind sames to improve 100%. I only hope I survive the next month of moving activities. Once I spend my first night in TV I plan to wake up much younger than I feel right now. :laugh: There are times like this morning at 3am when I literally want to start over in TV meaning bring nothing with me but the clothes on my back.....:icon_wink:

I'd at least bring a bathing suit in my purse :) You ladies know how awful those are to shop for.

hmmmmm......I haven't worn a swimsuit in years. I guess I need to be thinking of getting one again huh?????

To add a story to the Great Fumar, I played golf with a 91 year old, he walked and used a push cart and was the only one in the foursome with a birdie on the card....Better get her quick so you can have as much fun as I do!!!

This is a good question. However age is probably less important than other variables in deciding to make the move. I would look for a rental for a few months or a year and see how you like it. I also think the age of each community (residents) differes a little due to the year of construction so you should be able to find a community your like.

Never stop challenging yourself and taking risks with new adventures. youa re a youngster. Now get on down to TV before all the hosues sell out!

I am so glad to read these posts, we are on the verge of selling in Ohio hopefully in the next 2 weeks. Would like to get to the Villages while we can still walk.
