I had to push my cart...

...up the temporary ramp just south of 466 by Morse, while the wife was driving. I know the cart needs new batteries, but I've never had to push it before. I came to TV for a rest, but I'm working harder than ever :-)

that new ramp is unnecessarily steep, and the temporary cart path very narrow, especially on the corner - you would think TV had enough experience of constructing cart paths not to make them inconvenient and dangerous

anyway, recommendations please for a provider of new batteries?

the usual suspects, or is there anyone new in town?

Thank you

zcaveman 08-11-2011 11:42 AM

Spano (who I have used) or The Battery Boys (who I hear are very good) are the two choices I can offer you.

texasfal 08-11-2011 11:48 AM

Can the ********. He saved us over $100 on batteries last January.

Maybe the cart path is that way because it is temporary.

Think I saw you doing that this morning as I was driving on Morse....it's the pits to have that happen! It was our experience on the cart bridge (once) over 441. Hope you got things started again and that you were able to be on your way!!

We can recommend Sta Rite golf cart their phone #352-326-3100.

If the forum or Admin is going to recommend (endorse) a golf cart retailer and service shop, it might be a step in the right direction to require that that vendor pledge to only sell or modify carts (for villages use) that are in compliance with Florida law relative to speed. TOTV can lead the way toward protecting our fellow villagers' health and welfare. Let us use our leverage for the greater good.

Being new to TV i need to buy a new cart and prefer Electric (we are in one of the new sections). My question on speed would be: Doesn't it need to be capable of going above FL law so that it can do max speed up an incline? Cars are made capable of going over 70mph which is max, i think, in FL. But it is up to the operator to maintain a legal speed. Just sayin.

I bought a new EZgo electric, in June. I do not have any problem going up an incline. Example, the golf cart bridge over 441....my cart never even slows going over the bridge.
Being new to TV (welcome), you will soon learn that there are many carts capable of going over the speed limit illegally and many run flat out all the time. Be careful.

Yes I've rented a few slow ones and have been passed many times. Thanks for the EZ go recom. I assume you COULD go over the limit on a flat if you wished?

Are you saying you go over the 441 bridge at 20MPH? That would scare the heck out of me!

Sta Rite golf carts sells Village ready and legal golf carts so I think you are correct that TOTV vendors only be of high quality.

What was this thread about?

What was this thread about? Oh yeah, buying batteries..... I see four recommendations in the thread. I have personally used the folks recommended by zcaveman without issue, although Ken Spano let me down at a neighbors recently which was a bit embarrassing. Recently my Dad used Battery Boys without issue.

I will likely be getting new batteries in the fall, I will call all four of these. Price will matter. I do not need an expert to install batteries. Just my opinion.

I did not say I was going 20MPH. I said there was no slowing down.

Sorry I don't have a recommendation as ours is a gas cart. Just wanted to send you and Mrs. Cybermuda a virtual hug. It's no fun to get stuck pushing a cart, especially in the dead of summer. Hope you find a deal on new batteries and enjoy smooth sailing from here on out.

Again not an expert on electrics, but in addition to looking for one that keeps its speed on hills, consider one that has a long range between charges, especially if you and/or spouse are golfers. You might find yourself wanting to travel considerable distances in the golf cart in a day. There are some great former threads on the subject if you want to check them out. Or you can just ask anew and I'm sure many forum posters can provide great information.

I noticed you are a 'sage' - guess the description fits - thanks. And now I know where to buy batteries. Love this forum!

Yes the cart path is that way[steep, narrow]because it is temporary-that doesn't excuse the fact it is poorly constructed-these people are pros-they should be able to do better

Yes, maybe they are temporary. Anybody can see that it is a construction area and it would be prudent to slow down.

Thanks for clearing that up.

memason 08-12-2011 06:27 AM

Yep, the temporary path is a little steep, rough and narrow. However, I for one, am very appreciative that they put in a temporary path, rather than closing the path all together.

Cybermuda....sorry you had cart problems. That suxs, no matter the location. Hope you get them resolved soon...

GeorgeT 08-12-2011 08:02 AM

There are companies that will get your cart home for you if you break down just like AAA. The one I use is called ********* and they charge $30/year. They are fast.

Now that thinking is a half full glass vs. a half empty glass. I agree!

I'm appreciative too that they made a temporary path but they really had to do that.Lake Sumter Landing and all of the commercial area on 466 would have been cut off from anything north of 466.My point is the temporary path could be done in a better and safer way. Before anyone tells me to just drive carefully and slow down,I do.I saw a moron today pass a cart on the curve leading up to the incline. He had golf clubs so was probably risking his life and others so as not to miss his tee time.

cybermuda 08-12-2011 10:57 AM

Thank you all for your good wishes, and battery recommendations

I'm okay for now - it's Mrs Cybermuda's turn to push next time...

I always caution folks with, "be careful out there, there is a nut behind every wheel" (not just referring to the nut that holds the steering wheel on)!! Guess the same applies to golf carts too! :D

Just checked, and they have A-4 stamped on them - really, if I can't get more than seven and a half years out of a set of batteries... :-)

Still, the cart got us to Lake Sumter and back this morning without needing to be pushed so there's life in the old gal yet

and the cart's not doing too badly, either

Seven and a half years

I am not sure you can keep counting once your range is down under five miles on a charge :a20:

The secret is to find somewhere uphill to drive to, then I can always coast back home

Anyway, just off to compose my "batteries for sale" thread...

Good one, chuckled out loud (COL ?). Don't forget to include pictures!

Seriously though, they are worth $15 or $20 each, I forget how much you get when you exchange them.
