Giant RV parked in the road
What recourse is there, when a HUGE rv is regularly parked in the street? Home Watch told us they had no jurisdiction, but I believe our HOA have restrictions to RV on street parking? Appreciate some information about the "do's" and "don'ts" :mmmm:

If the RV is posing a safety hazard (ie. traffic is unable to get by), then it's considered a problem. Otherwise, probably not. The HOA doesn't even come into play.....nor would the VHA.

Don't know about safety but that would significantly affect home resale value in the immediate area.

Where I lived before, no RV's were allowed to stay parked on our neighborhood streets....it was a violation of our CC&R's. The local sheriff's office was in charge when this type of violation was taking place. The streets weren't built to allow enough room for parked cars and passing vehicles, lots like our neighborhood streets, and in addition to being a deed restriction violation, it limited how easily vehicles could pass, especially fire trucks, trash trucks, ambulances, etc.
Is this vehicle the property of a homeowner? Maybe he/she is trying to find a parking/storage facility for their vehicle. Sometimes it takes a while....I know, we were faced with that situation in CA. Can you speak with them about this without anyone's feathers getting ruffled? It's nice to have a good relationship with our neighbors. Hopefully they're aware of the stress this vehicle is causing and they're working on a solution. |
is someone just visiting if not maybe unloading their stuff, give them a day or two and then i would go and ask if the rv is heading to storage, due to emergency trucks coming and going it could be a problem, cause you know someone will park across from it and not think anything of it.

Why would a RV affect home prices?

Actually I believe there is a restriction on RV parking. They are allowed 24 hours to load or unload and than have to move.
And parked cars RV's, boats etc. parked on the street do impact home values. It turns a percentage of prospective buyers off. When you lower the pool of potential buyers, you lower the value of the home. |

I found the following information on the CDD website. It is related to parking in the driveway. I don't know that The Villages can enforce rules about parking in the road since the roads are all public.
"Boats, Campers, Winnebago’s, and other RVs are allowed on the driveway not to exceed 72 hours (3 days) provided they are not plugged in or inhabited. This allowance is made in an effort to accommodate the cleaning/packing and unpacking of the boat/RV." |
Don't agree with it but previous answer
If this is in an area of homes and not villas, then the streets are public right-of-way and the motor home can park there as long as it is not a safety violation. In other words that if a fire truck can pass in the street and not leave the pavement then it can park in the street at that location. If not then it must be moved. If you live in a villa community then the motor home can only stay there for no longer than 72 hours for loading and unloading and still must allow for emergency vehicles to pass by. If you would like us to send some one out, please get back with me with the address of the motor home and we will start the procedure to have it checked.

Just received my Declaration of Restrictions yesterday.
Item 2.9 - "... No trucks in excess of ¾ ton size, boats, or recreational vehicles shall be parked, stored of otherwise remain on any Homesite or street, except for (a) service vehicles located thereon on a temporary basis while performing a service ..." I do remember reading somewhere that RV's were allowed in ones' driveway for upto 72 hours for loading and unloading but were not to be hooked to power. |

Nothing precludes TV from issuing such a restriction on the street parking but they have no jurisdiction over it and it therefore cannot be enforced with any kind of penalty. They’re probably hoping that the majority of homeowners won’t know this and therefore would comply with it.

RV Parking
For all you new boys south of 466.
We have had a long standing regulation in the Villages that restricts RV parking on streets for more than 3 days. Believe that it is one of the restrictions imposed by the Villages when you buy in here. Same as some of the other covenents, like cloths lines, chain linck fenses, etc. |

speaking as a new boy south of 466, the roads come under county jurisdiction, not TV. A complaint about a safety issue (not enough space for an emergency vehicle) should get a response from the local gendarmes. Other than that, there aren't very many parking restrictions around here on the streets. On the property deeded to you by the developer, however, restrictions are a whole different story.

We have neighbors a couple of doors down from us who have a large RV. They will bring it to their driveway a couple of times a year when they are getting it ready for a long trip. It will stay in the driveway for 2 or 3 days at that time. The other times of the year, it is stored at the big facility on 466. No problem at all for anyone.
I would not like to see it parked in the street in front of their house at all times. It would not look good. Personally, I would think most Villages residents would have the common sense and neighborhood committment to have their RV stored in the facility on 466 or other lots. |
parking an rv on a villages street is like farting in church.....its allowed but not a nice thing to do to your neighbors....:22yikes:

Has anybody contacted Sumter Sheriff or Villages FD to get their more official take on big RVs in the streets?
