Presidential Vacations

:confused:Is it just me, or does anyone else think that Mr. Obama has taken more vacations than any other president in recent history?

President Obama’s Vacation Days

Q: Has President Obama taken more vacation time than his predecessors?
A:According to one count, Presidents Ronald Reagan, George H.W. Bush and George W. Bush spent more time on "vacation" during their first year than President Obama did. Presidents Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton spent less time on "vacation."

However, I think ALL of them need to get their BUTTS back to their desks and fix this mess!!!!

...maybe they should! When a person is hired to do a job that he fails to do, he is usually fired. Not sure why that cannot happen to an elected official who is elected to do a job that he fails to do...

It is just you, I am sorry to say.

As of August 19, 2011, President Obama has spent 61 vacation days away from the White House thus far in his term.

George Walker Bush spent 487 days at Camp David, the presidential retreat, during his two terms as president. George Walker Bush also spent 490 days at his ranch in Crawford. That totals to 977 days away from the White House. It is 2.67 years of an 8 year term away from "the office".

How about we talk about the cost of the vacations. GW used to travel to his own private residence or an existing government facility to unwind. Obama spends our money to stay in $5 thousand dollar a night resorts while utilizing 2 separate jets; and he and his wife arrive only a couple of hours apart. I don't think there's been any president who's lavished anywhere near as much of our money on himself and his family as this one in 2 1/2 years. Prove me wrong, I dare ya.

Yea, but when they spend time at their own residence it saves us taxpayers money. Tell us again how much it cost the taxpayers for the Obama's to take all these luxurious trips? How about Barack Hussein Obama Misery tour bus that cost millions of taxpayers dollars and was made in Canada. How about the fact that the taxpayers paid for the bus to be used for campaigning?

i was advised by the head mechanic of the secret service motor pool fleet of suburbans that the buses were ordered this past april because it would be cheaper to own them rather than rent them whenever they are needed...the temporary security fixes to rentals were not as cost effective as permanently installing the security on vehicles they own.

the buses are available to any govt official that the secret service deems appropriate, elected, appointed, visiting, etc. there are many officials who need and utilize the security of the secret service besides the potus. the primary reasons for the purchase were communications and security - not really for the pres' campaigning.

and he further told me that when the buses are not in use for touring or other transportation reason[s], they are equipped to serve as mobile command centers to be used wherever needed when an emergency should occur. for that reason, they will be outfitted with the new feature of being able to communicate with anyone/anywhere as soon as the technology is available.

i have no reason to doubt the sincerity of my informer - he is family!

I have less problem with his "vacation" than I do with his spending the entire time of his presidency campaigning for the next term. I see that as a big part of the problem. I, for one, don't want to see a next term.

The whole of Washington needs to forego vacations until the job is done! In the private sector, vacations were always denied when there was a heavy workload. Why should government be any different? They're supposed to work for "us" so we should have the say as to when they can go on vacation.

the thread was how many days not how much. Some of you do not like the answers so lets change the subject to anything that condemns the President like busses and cost. Total garbage if I may say.

2 buses built

There were 2 of these "tour buses" ordered by the Secret Service. The second one is designated for the GOP candidate's use. Here is the NY Post article. The last paragraph briefly mentions that there were 2 buses ordered by the Secret Service last July. The cost of each bus was 1.1 million.

Yea, taxpayer's money is total garbage. I wish I had more garbage to pay my bills instead of wasting it on government expenditures. Garbage is the President using taxpayer's money for campaigning. We are going down the tubes and Barack Hussein Obama is hob-nobing with the rich and famous on Martha's Vineyard.
What is that about the emperor playing the fiddle while the country burns.

Don't like that while the country is going down the economic crapper and the government is scrambling for revenue that I mentioned that this President spends our money so lavishly on himself and his family that it would make a dictator blush? I'm so sorry.

There will be another hobnobber in the area. Mr.Willard Mitt Romney will be in nearby Edgartown, Mass. for a $2,500 plate fundraiser on the 27th. Same island. Anyone attending? Does that also count as hob nabbing with the rich? He has the right to campaign anywhere he wants. Does he pay the bill for Secret Service protection?
Who the *#&!! wants a president named Willard? Wasn't that the name of a 70s horror movie about a rat? His nomination could be the sequel.
Once elected all politicians are hypocrites with reelection as their primary goal. Both sides.

Just out of curiosity, how did you feel when liberals were saying the exact same thing about Bush?

What I'm getting at is.. Whatever happened to the "lose gracefully and take the 'we'll get 'em next time' attitude"?

Bush wasn't really on vacation, he was looking for those darn "weapons of mass destruction".

Although I was not much of a Bush supporter (I actually voted against Gore and Kerry) I still have an 8 year residue from that crowd.

Is that how the liberals acted when Bush defeated Gore, and then defeated Kerry? Are we conservative supposed to be above the partisan shenanigans of the left?

There was never a president who was treated as vile as former President Bush, and it continues to this very day.

Spare me the sermon, DJ.

There is only one person on this forum who talks about hate and that is you. I did not like Bush because I believe that he was manipulated to a certain degree by Chaney and/or his other advisers. His father screwed up by not going after Saddam (for the life of me I can't remember his last name, can you help me out there) and he manufactured a reason for going after him. My dislike for him still does not rise to the level of contempt that you show for President Obama.

Come election time, I will vote for who I believe is the best candidate. To be honest, I hope that the Democrats pick someone else other than Obama though that will probably not happen.

Do us all a favor, though, keep the race card out of this. It really diminishes any point that you are trying to make.

Obama is getting it today. Just like Bush got it before. I really thought we had sunk to a new low when the media show anti-Bush protestors with Bush-as-Hitler signs. Today it's Obama-as-Hitler signs.

Same crap, just a different set of losers.

When I was at some public meetings in my town, I took some pride in that the conservatives were VERY polite while the liberals presented their case - yet when the conservatives talked, the liberals were rude, interrupting and actually "booed" ordinary citizens giving their opinion on the subject (a highway project proposed for our town).

Now I see the most vile, disgusting and unabashedly racist crap coming from uber-conservatives. Those NOT on the lunatic fringe aren't much better. Limbaugh's criticism of Clinton "back in the day" was nothing like what I hear from him about Obama.

Yeah, I defended Bush from the "idiot" and "trained monkey" comments before 2008. After all, you don't get certified to fly jets (whether or not they were obsolete - doesn't matter) if you're a trained monkey.

I'd hoped that conservatives would be more gracious and "above" the kind of tactics the liberals used when Bush was in - but I was wrong.

To be honest, I don't know how much worse the hyper-partisanship can get - but I know I'm going to find out.

How many times must I say this: I do not hate Obama, I hate his policies. Is that hard for you to understand???? I never hated Carter but I despised the way he acted as commander in chief. If I was ever to hate someone, it would be someone who has no responsibility and just shoots his mouth off like Chris Mathews or Bill Maher.
Ok?

Show examples of this racist crap. You are no better then the ulta-left-wing progressives when you make an unsubstantiated statement like that. If anything, conservatives go out of their way to avoid the racist crap that you liberals use so liberally.

These liberals are trying to rewrite history to try and suggest that Obama is treated with a disrespect, and even a hatred, never shown a President before, and it's unadulterated nonsense, and I won't take it without pointing out their disingenuousness, or even worse, their outright lying.

This President is treated with kid gloves compared to the malice that was shown the good man who was George W. Bush, who by the way, is still the recipient of their enmity.

The only mention of racism I've seen on this forum is from Obama supporter's using the race card when, as is usually the case, they have no valid counter argument. It's Obama's socialist progressive policies and disrespect for the greatness that is America that are abhorrent, and nothing else.

Guest 08-22-2011 03:01 PM

Waynenet,
You are so correct. These people are just looking for reasons to hate this president. If we can't hate him because he takes more vacations than past presidents then lets change it to the costs per vacation because there probably isn't any research done on that one so I can't be PROVEN to be a close minded moron.

Here is the problem: George Bush was the captain of the Titanic. Just after we hit the iceberg he handed the keys over to President Obama and jumped in a lifeboat. Now people are screaming mad at Obama because we're taking on water.

I guess people just need someone to blame all their problems on. I guess he's an easy target. After all, he isn't one of us...... he's probably not a Christian. He's probably not even an American and we all know he's........ you know, ...............................black.

Guest 08-22-2011 03:32 PM

It's clear when people on this blog use the term "annointed one", or they refer to our president as "Barack Hussain Obama" you know where they're getting their news. They're like robots.

Guys, I know it's easy to go to Fox News and let them tell you what to think and say but it's not best for you or the country. Try reading a paper sometime. If you struggle with the printed word try watching CNN. Just because it's not Fox doesn't mean it's automatically liberal like Fox would like you to believe.

The thread was about vacations. The problem with Obama's vacations are twofild: first he takes them when his total focus should be on solving serious national problems. Secondly when he takes one he has an enormous entourage, private cooks, etc costing taxpayers millions and millions of dollars.

Turning to this race issue liberals need to invent a new reason as to why people do not have confidence in Obama like his inability to understand economic and foreign policy. Remember Obama is half white so if the racist thing could stick (its an excuse for his poor performance) then racist would only half not like him. Liberals this issue is getting really old and tiring. I would vote for Thomas Sowell in a New York second because he is both intelligent , possess common sense and would promote the greater good

Guest 08-22-2011 04:18 PM

Rubicon,
You are incorrect. The thread was not about vacations but rather the number of vacations. The author of the thread was thinking that our President was taking more vacations than past Presidents. Once that idea (promoted by Fox News by the way) was debunked then someone else tried to change it to the costs of vacations.

Thomas Sowell? How convient, I don't believe he's running for president. Guess you're off the hook on that one.

Now about the racist issue. It's very difficult to prove racism now a days because it's not as "out in the open in the south" as it once was but there are clues. How about the Tea ****** issue that President Obama was not born in America? Did the tea ****** folks ever question McCain about his citizenship? How about George Bush? What about the question of his being a Christian or not? Why do you think so many (including some on this blog) refer to our president as Barrack Hussain Obama?

Now I don't expect you to answer those questions honestly but I am simply sharing how I see things.

Did you know that when you refer to The Tea party as "**********" you are being derogatory? Did you know that "our president" insisted on using his middle name HUSSEIN at his swearing in as President although the press refused to call him that during the campaign?
Tell me about Obama's vacations, like spending millions to take his wife to New York for a day. How many exotic vacations did President Bush take while in office. He had the decency to go to his own home and carry on business.

While the USA burns, Obama fiddles.
