Men's Barbers

Any recommendations for barbers?

pjolson 08-24-2011 02:01 PM

Buffalo's barber shop in the shopping center at 101 and 466. Dennis Thompson or Gene Glass.

gary42651 08-24-2011 02:31 PM

Cal`s Barber Shop at Colony Plaza, I use Lamar, but they`re all good.

petenj 08-24-2011 02:52 PM

Al's Barber Shop, on27/441 north of the markets of Marion. $6 cuts

swrinfla 08-24-2011 02:59 PM

I've used Cal's in Lake Sumter Landing since I came in 2005. I've never settled on a specific person, but currently like Bill's work.

I've always been a walk-in. Never waited more than 15 minutes; often have no wait at all.

Suppose that I ought to admit to not being picky! When I'm close to having to tie a pony tail, then I go!

First, let me welcome you to TOTV. It is a good site for info and many nice people post here.

I go to Cal's at Sumter Landing, but as my hair line recedes, I'm thinking of going to a less expensive place.

Finding a good men's barber in TV, or anywhere, is a real crap shoot.

Lately, I have been going to Sue in Belleview Regional Shopping Plaza, 352-547-7041. She does straight razor back of the neck hair removal and sideburn trim like the old time barbers.

I'm still lookin for a men's shoe shop with the xray machine to see how your feet fit in the new shoes.

Chuck, I recently saw one of those old shoe fitting x-ray machines on that History Channel restoration show. I had never seen one before. I wonder how many people would have put their feet in that contraption if they knew then what they know today about radiation? The restoration guys replaced the x-ray source with a light bulb if I remember correctly.

Both my wife and I liked Cal's in Colony Plaza! They had several barbers there, both male and female.

Bosoxfan 08-25-2011 10:13 AM

I also use Cals in Colony Plaza! Also I'm not picky...#1 buzz on sides & back...#2 buzz on top..Hard to screw up that cut....

I use Al in Cal’s Barber Shop on Legrande Blvd. in the historic section across from the Post Office.

He’ll do whitewalls around the ears with a straight edge if you want it.

chuckinca 08-25-2011 11:10 AM

He sounds like my kind of barber!

I'll have to check him out when we get back in Oct.

I agree with Cal's. I go to Charlie.

Female barbers? Just can't bring myself to it.

Old-fashioned I guess. Maybe just plain old.

Shimpy 08-25-2011 03:39 PM

Cals in Lake Sumter Landing. I always have Bill cut my hair. That said I'd like to find a barber shop like I use to have in S. Fla. Only men barbers and they used a straight razor to trim around the edges with hot lather. Also they had better magazines to read while waiting.
If anyone knows where there is a real old fashion barber shop, let me know.

Number 6 08-25-2011 03:55 PM

That is funny. I cannot bring myself to let a man cut my hair. Must bring back bad memories of my childhood. IMHO women are better barbers (or stylists, if you must).

Peazoup 09-26-2012 10:30 AM

Is there such a thing as a barber shop around here that trims beards?

skip0358 09-26-2012 10:44 AM

Vanessa at Cal's in Colony Plaza, first barber my hubby has ever gone back to. I cut his hair until we moved here and I "Retired". He has fine hair and needs a really good cut. I go to her as well.

Big Als on 441 north of the Marion Market. Ten barbers, six bucks and you can enjoy the fun atmosphere of the shop. I always look forward to going there, It's a Hoot.

Wiserbud47 09-26-2012 12:46 PM

I go to Cal's in Sumter Landing and use Norma, who is excellent. If you make an appointment (352-259-9100) there will be no wait.

Thank you Skip

When we moved here five years ago Sweetie would go out for a haircut and come back with a Geezer cut. I don't know if it is the chip implant they give you when you get the ID card, the water here or good barbers. He is lookin' younger every day.

OH...and no longer comes back with geezer cuts.

He goes someplace different every time. He always has.

newkid 09-27-2012 09:15 AM

Have you been there lately. I believe Jerry used to have the first chair by the door. If that's him we're speaking of, he has relocated to AZ.
