A Socialist wrote the Pledge of Allegiance
|
History is full of interesting tidbits. Lucky for us his work is more important than the man who penned it.

What is the point of this? |

Good question |
I think one point that could be made here for the post - next time you uber-conservatives say the Pledge of Allegiance at one of your organization meetings, remember it was a Socialist who wrote it and you are pledging to the words of a Socialist.
|
Well, when they installed "under God" in 1954, that kind of knocked the starch out of the "socialism"? Just saying. I'm assuming most socialists do not believe in God. I could be wrong.

Christian Socialism Many who favored systematic change spoke fervently of the need to introduce a morally based cooperative element into capitalism but nonetheless took pains to distance themselves from political socialism. Some, however, were not at all shy about using the term socialist to describe themselves, even when their denominational bodies turned decidedly unreceptive to their work. These politically active Christians included William Dwight Porter Bliss, a former Congregationalist and Episcopalian, who adopted British Christian Socialist ideas and in 1906 joined the Christian Socialist Fellowship founded by Vida Scudder. He also joined the burgeoning Socialist Party, as did George Herron, a former Congregationalist pastor who gave the nominating speech for Eugene V. Debs's presidential bid in 1904. In 1909 a previously existing group, the Catholic Socialists of Chicago, founded the Catholic Socialist Society, which was affiliated with both the Christian Socialist Fellowship and the Socialist Party, despite the pope's repeated denouncements of socialism on the grounds that it violated the sanctity of private property. Even these self-styled socialists, however, were careful to distinguish their views from those of Karl Marx. They spoke more generally of cooperative economic ventures that valued the well-being of all above the profit of a few, and, of course, they sought an economic system that would be grounded in Christian love. But perhaps because of their willingness to become involved in the wider world of socialist politics, the sphere of influence of these radical reformers, both within and outside of the churches, remained small. http://www.encyclopedia.com/topic/Ch...socialism.aspx |
It seems to me that socialism is the system that needs an injection of morality.

??????
I am still having difficulty understanding the reason behind the original post, but then again, I am blonde.

Interesting!

What do you find interesting about the video you posted, angiefox10? I'm just trying to understand why you started a thread by saying the Pledge of Allegiance was written by a "socialist" and then posted this video saying that children are brainwashed when they repeat it at public schools.
After someone pointed out that it was a Christian socialist, a different ideology than you inferred, you post this video. What is your point? In order to have a discussion about something, you have to take a position and state your point of view. Again, very respectively, I'm curious what you find interesting about the video? What is your point? |

Richie,
Your posting may or may not be accurate. The dictator of Venezulea is Hugo Chavez. Cesar Chavez was the farm labor activist and civil rights leader for migrant farm workers and was co-founder of the National Farm Workers Association. For all I know, school children in Venezulea may be singing praises of Cesar Chavez. Definitely, he was a liberal activist. You may not agree with everything he did, but Cesar Chavez did help the migrant workers in America. |

Of course I meant Hugo Chavez and the point of my post was to point out the similarity of the brainwashing of students in the socialist country of Venezuela, and other communist/socialists countries, to revere the "leader of the revolution", and the teacher led chanting of the homage to Obama by the U.S. students in the video aforementioned. (I was making no conscious reference to Caesar Chavez, and I appreciate that you were kind in your response instead of mocking as you could have been. Thanks much.) |

You can find anything that supports your position on the net AND youtube. I will not post them here, but I can find similar videos, where then President Bush was being praised by school children. Do a search in youtube and see what you get. What's wrong with children praising the President ?? Just saying . . . |

If this happened in the classroom where one of my children attended, they would no longer be attending. I sent my children to school to learn the 3 R's-reading, (w)riting and (a)rithmetic. After that I tried to teach them to think for themselves and take care of themselves. My youngest is now a graduate of the University of Notre Dame and is in Moritz Law school at Ohio State, and paying his own way. Pretty sure he never had a class wherein he had to participate in the teacher led group praising of any elected government official...

We still do it at the Villages Woodworkers meetings. |

Comparing the school children's religious like chanting of the teacher led "praising" of Pres. Obama to the adorable children thanking FEMA and President Bush for the rebuilding efforts post-Katrina in song, is stretching comparisons to the breaking point. But, if you can find the video, please post it. |

Political correctness and other marxist-oriented practices have become so ingrained in our society most of us have forgotten the benefits derived from reciting the Pledge of Allegience in school, morning prayer in school and benediction at business meetings. Religious events can and should be non-dominational but it is important that we take time to give thanks to something or someone greater us. It is important to to remember each day that our nation under God ( for non-believers with ethical moral determination) permits us to live in a free and democratic society. Expert
explain that it is essentially for people to have a belief in God or something greater than themselves for a democracy to work. Far too many young people are dangerously disengaged focusing only on themselves. We suffer now from a lack of leadership just think what America will be facing 20 years from now given selfish and narcistic behavior? Angiefox's post sheds sun light on this issue. Based on the dialogue going on in this country and especially in politics we are a divided nation and a divided nation can only fall I am not particularly religious but I will pray daily for guidance. I will always Pledge Allegiance to the Flag...... |

Here is a scary, scary video. In my mind, it doesn't matter the person of praise. Although this video is praising President George W. Bush ...and I do not know the exact context of the proceedings. I am not going to try and spin this into anything. Watch it all.... President Bush is praised about 2 minutes in and then there are some comments about Obama, at the very end, but I cannot understand the comment... It's not a video of the children who rehearsed and sang about FEMA and the President at the 2006 White House Easter Egg Hunt, which was the subject of all the leftist media scorn that I previously mentioned. |

Of course, by leftist media, you are referring to all media except for FOX?
You guys have to start watching Bill Maher on HBO more than you do. Jay Leno is great but Maher is uncensored so he can really speak the truth. |
