Glass Cook Top
On a glass cook top, what would be the best cook wareto use?
|
I use the same stuff as any other cook top.
|
Shhhhh
Talk like this and hubby will be expecting me to cook!!! :cus:

I asked that too, before coming down! Helpful others advised "anything flat bottomed" will work. It does.
The only thing I have had trouble with is, when cooking on a gas cooktop, I have a tendency to grab the handle and "shake the pan" now and then as I am cooking. Don't do that on electric. I already scratched my glass cooktop. What a dope. I am not used to cooking "hands off", but other than that, I like electric better than I thought I would. Try to match the pan bottom to the size of the ring on the glass cooktop. My pans were all too big or too small. |

Thank You! Reason I asked...I have a Black Bosch Glass Cook Top and cooking with heavy cook ware. The bottom of my pans have left a mark on the cook top. I need to think of getting new lighter weight quality pots pans for the new stove in TV. Any suggestions on what I should buy???
PS The pots and pans I'm using now are "Calphalon" |

I use most analon pans or farberware pans. The faberware are fairly light weight and match the size of the burners pretty well. |

They ARE lighter in weight. I cooked with them at a friend's house. Easier to clean as well, inside and outside, but I don't know how they hold up over time. That's what I like about the traditional Calphalon. Indestructible. There are some other brands w/ceramic coatings out there too... I think I may try a pan or two. |

Cannot believe anyone would prefer an electric cook top over gas. Too many problems. Gas, just turn it on and set the exact flame you want and cook away. No worries about scratching and type of pans. I am beginning to believe a lot of the material in todays kitchens are made more for looks than functionality.

Thanks batman911, however, the new villages are electric only... |

Someone correct me if I'm wrong. |
New villages are gas only but that does not mean you like it or live with it.
I plan to bury a tank. Electric may sweve well for some but, IMHO, once you have used gas there is not going back. |

Yes, you are allowed to bury a tank. The last gas range I purchase included the parts required to convert from natural gas to propane.

So then are white ones better?

white vs. black cooktop
I've had both....the white range had sort of a grey, speckled granite-looking surface and I loved it....didn't show scratches that are inevitable. Then, different house....gourmet kitchen and I wanted SS appliances...the range came with black cooktop.....it was beautiful for a while, but I use my cooktop A LOT and over time (7-8 yrs. now) it has scratches on it, but polishes up enough to still look good....still love my SS appliances and really wish they could do a speckled finish for those, but every SS brand that I've seen comes with the black. So, when we FINALLY sell our house here , we'll need to choose the appliances from our experiences - still leaning twd the SS!!! Go figure!!! Just love the look of SS! Hope this helps....sorry 'bout the rambling :)
