Political with a new Heart
 
In the last few days, I have had a very interesting exchange of information on ignore list or just ignore. First of all, the ignore list truly works and it brought my blood pressure down about 30 pts. After I closed out my political group connection, I have received PM from several posters with a combination of several thousand posts. I thank them for their support and would like to share some of their very good advice. It has opened my eyes wide and I rejoined Political a few minutes ago to post this thread.
Because I was asked directly by two of them for a clear reason, I told them of my feeling about two individuals on the board and was surprised by the responses:
- One of them has been harrassing people on here for years
- Biggest jerk on the board
- My favorite: You provided more positive input on your last two threads than that jerk has in the last year.
I do enjoy the political board and they have convinced me not be driven away by the playground bully mentality. I do not have the ability to spar with that type poster, so will simply not allow myself to be drawn into the silliness. I just wanted to explain my return. I hope other frustrated folks can receive comfort from knowing they are not alone.
Synopsis: I am back, I will not buy into the hate and personal attacks, I will give my honest opinions without sarcasm. Hold me too this everyone.

I have a difficult time with these posters who offer not much on their 2nd or multiple poster name and simply use this as their own personal playground.

I admit having trouble ignoring their posts and I DO try to "call them" on that kind of thing, most times unsuccessful because they are beyond being embarassed. Thanks Bucco. I just need to bite my lip and go on. I have used sarcasm too often myself, but that is not the answer, it only feeds into the hate and disruption of true political discussion. This site is too important to allow myself to fall into that trap anymore. If I slip back into that, please feel free to call me the jerk. If we communicate instead of fight, we could actually do some good. The Villages is a huge community with some of the brightest minds in the country. Its time we grow up and use our talents rather than abuse them.

First off, WELCOME BACK, Villager II.

Second, having never met most of you face to face, if I even have that pleasure, you can rest assured that I will not say anything on this forum that I would not say to you face to face. I never sale wolf tickets that my A** can not cash. Old military saying.

Also I have noticed that some posters just call names, give information with no references just to make worthless use of digital bandwidth. Stop wasting bandwidth and if you have a point back it up with references and links to where you got your information. Stop with the name calling, either have a vaild point or don't say anything to prove that you are a fool. Its better to keep your fingers quite and appear a fool than to start them working and prove beyond all doubt, that your are a fool.

Finally, Welcome back Villager II, never let a school yard bully get the upper hand. Ignore is the one thing they can stand, especialy in the digital world where you can't jack them up and get in their face.

Great points. Thanks for the welcome. I spent the last few days re-reading some posts that I don't agree with. Most of them have great sources of information if you just listen. I think all of us loose perspective when we become 100% positive about any issue left or right. I think it takes a being more advanced than us to have that much knowledge. Even then, if we disagree there is the possibly that we both may be wrong.

I have also put the worse offenders on the ignore list. I can just imagine what one of them will say about me, but anyone who listens to him, I don't care what they think! I too decided that one or two folks are not going to spoil the political forum for me. I have learned a few things here, but then I don't think ever changing your position on something is a weakness. LOL
PS-I hear we are having lunch together on Wednesday. Hubby told me that. Looking forward to meeting you!

Villager II On the golf course in my five years here I only have come across 4 people whom I would rather not play even one hole of golf

On TOTV as respects to those argumentative and rude poster I had taken the advice of a guy I played golf with on Palmers four years ago. I said to him "It makes me nervous when I look back and see golfers on my heels" He replied "don't look back" and so I never did after that discussion. So with those "unreasonable types" I just don't look back.

Welcome back to the forum. I for one appreciate and respect your points of view. God knows we all learn from each other

Good points rubicon. I cannot believe the girlie, girlie types who complain that their sensitivities have been violated. I can be sensitive in certain situations at certain times, but I try to keep an inner strength that comes from experience. You have to see people for who they are, and then carry on. Do not look behind.

Agreed; when one poster misquoted another to alter the meaning, that was a smear. I'm glad you saw that and applaud it. We need to stop the sniping.

Actually I think all the liberals are putting the conservatives on "ignore" and will just be agreeing with each other from now on. It should really be wonderful and affirming for them.

heres how I see it. Anytime a liberal thinking poster blast a conservative figure or activity some conservative will announce they are outraged by the lack of civility. The next thing I see is the liberal apoligizing or trying to explain himself again. The conservative? Probably smiling knowing he got away with another one.

I don't think that's quite right. When the liberal blasts the conservative figure and then the conservative poster blasts holes in that outlook, the conservative poster is then attacked personally. When the conservative poster get annoyed at the personal attack and responds, the liberal poster drops on the ground and screams for help and cries "conservative brutality".

It is as you say; however, we are fortunate enough that this board only has few driving the jerk train and a few more with the occasional outburst. Overall, we are lucky there are not more than the freaky few. No names of course. I just will no longer try to get along with them, just ignore. I have had bi-partisan discussions on here that have been civil with both the Liberal folks and the Conservatives. I am however embarrassed to say that I am a conservative and its my side of town that gets the nastiest on this board. With the ignore button on, I won't have to even see their response to this post. Hang in there, as things are cleaning up on the political board slowly but definitely.

I think we should just start to report them to the administrators. If posters simply want to come on here and smear individuals with NO discussion of issues they should be removed. Of course they get removed and simply sneak back on with a new id....sort of tells you something about them right there !
