NY Times likes Sarah Palin......for her brains?; OMG!!
 

After Sarah Palin's great keynote speech at the Tea Party rally in Iowa, virtually all of what she calls the "lamestream media" did what was expected and ignored her speech and only was concerned with "will she or won't she" get into the Presidential race.

New York Times columnist Anand Giriharadas is surprised that he heard some ideas of Ms. Palin that, as he says, cross the political divide. He cites three observations she made.

First: is that the U.S. is now governed by a "permanent political class", made up of both parties that are in disconnect with the American people.

Second: that both political parties are allied with big business in a scheme of "corporate crony capitalism" in their own interests for their own advantage.

Third: that the real political divide is no longer between the "friends" or "foes" of big government, but between the friends and foes of vast unaccountable public and private institutions.

To her first point she notes both parties stressing of spending cuts, but spending more and more. All of them arriving in D.C. of modest means and leaving wealthy.

To her second point she notes the position the legislators put themselves in. In between the money spent by government and the money spent by big business to secure decisions that help their businesses.

And third, and which the author says is most striking, she made a distinction between "good capitalists and bad capitalists". The good ones being the businesses that take risks and sink or swim in the open market, and the bad ones being the "well connected" mega corporations that live off bailouts, dodge taxes and generate huge profits while creating no jobs.

She then said something you liberals might like (except that SHE said them)

“This is not the capitalism of free men and free markets, of innovation and hard work and ethics, of sacrifice and of risk", she said of crony capitalism. “It’s the collusion of big government and big business and big finance to the detriment of all the rest — to the little guys. It’s a slap in the face to our small business owners — the true entrepreneurs, the job creators accounting for 70 percent of the jobs in America.”

I agree with all 3 points she made. That is why term limits and campaign finance are the most important things to be done. If not we will continue down the road of destruction.

It's funny. Even the writer for the New York Times said that these really thought provoking comments were ignored because "she said them".

One page of comments proved his point a couple of times.

So "open-minded", aren't they?

Mitt Romney will be the Republican candidate for 2012. It will be important for the reactionary right to remain calm (if possible, for them) to also get a moderate for the VP slot. They will have a chance of winning. In fact, even I might vote that ticket - as long as your girl, Sarah, is far from the ticket.

Hold your nose and pull the Republican slot again, Richie. Obama can be beat but only by Republican moderates and NOT your extremists.

Sarah is cute, Perry is a Cowboy and FOX News contributors are Very Comical, but we are looking for a presidential candidate. I like pretty women, I am a Western Movie nut and I chuckle and agree with lots of the commentators on FOX news, but its time to wake up and lend your support for a serious candidate.

Romney - is the only viable runner at this time. Get your support out for him or get ready to complain for an additional four more years.

That is my problem. I cannot turn down "invites." I went golfing 3 times yesterday with different groups. 27 holes. I live in a Courtyard Villa with snowbird neighbors leaving and coming every week. Every time I sit down at this computer my wife comes in and tells me I'm supposed to be somewhere.
I have never had this much fun in years. We'll get together in the future and maybe invite your buddy Rich.

I really might be willing to "bet" you on this one. I'm thinking you don't have a clue what the country's mood is. Stop listening to the beltway talking heads on the tv, if that's what you're doing, because they're equally clueless. The independents will shift to my side in multitude if the candidate is strong in opposition to the current leadership and has good conservative ideals. The Republican candidates appeal will be diminished by putting forward a candidate who is "moderate", and that will seriously dilute his support among independents.

One of the worse days of my life was when I heard that McCain was going to represent the republicans for the presidency. We do not need another RINO to lose the election to the moonbats and our great country. I seriously believe that another Obama term will be too much for this country to ever make a comeback. We are slipping deeper and deeper into the muck of mediocrity.

This is pretty much my position as well. I was considering voting for McCain, the FIRST repub presidential candidate I would have ever voted for; that is until he picked the Paliln. I thought Hilary would have been the better candidate, but that did not happen. My McCain vote would have been in protest for what the party did to Hilary; but Palin...no way.

Got to tell you. I'm not fond of what your thinking at that time has wrought. I remember a childhood saying; "Don't cut off your nose to spite your face".

The thought of Palin being next in line for the presidency was WAY WAY too scary. Do I like Obama, no, I don't; but Palin would have been far worse. In retrospect I am even more convinced I voted correctly. She is a quitter...she is an opportunist. She quit to rake in the bucks while she could. For heavens sake, the woman could not even name a newspaper or magazine she read. This reminds me of Paris Hilton telling Larry King that she read her bible the whole time she was in jail...and when Larry asked her to quote her favorite part...she looked like a deer in a headlight. Did I just compare Paris Hilton to Palin? You betcha! You love her; I hate her. Never the twain shall meet. But I do like you Richie. You ideas sometimes make me cringe, but you are always honest about what you feel. That is important...and rare.
