Golf cart path walking?

Are people allowed to walk the golf cart paths? Are people allowed to walk their dogs on the golf cart paths as long as they pick up the waste responsibly?

buggyone 09-18-2011 09:20 AM

If you are talking about the multi-modal trails, there is no problem with walking on them or taking your dog for a walk.

The cart paths on the golf courses are supposed to be only for golf carts. Of course, if there is no one on the course in the late evening you can walk the paths or walk your dog - if you clean up after the dog, of course. I am sure that the ambassador would ask you nicely not to walk on the path but they are not going to get angry or revoke your ID card.

Just do not walk the cart paths on the golf courses when there are players anywhere on the course. That is a safety issue for everyone.

Bogie Shooter 09-18-2011 09:22 AM

The golf cart paths are for golfers.

Ditto. You are not allowed to walk or ride on a golf course unless you're playing golf, and you certainly are not allowed to walk your dog on a golf course ever, even if you pick up after the dog.

As far as your walking your dog on multi-modal trails just be careful and aware at all times and keep the dog on the grass side with a short leash. Golf cart traffic is picking up and those trails get pretty busy and can be dangerous at times.

skyguy79 09-18-2011 09:53 AM

Oren, you'll find small signs at the ends of the paths for golfers that let you know that only those playing golf are allowed.

Why

I am a stickler for following rules, and I am all about safety, having had numerous OSHA courses.....but I have to say, I cannot understand this rule.

There is a concrete golf cart path about a hundred feet from my back yard, that surrounds a few hundred beautiful acres of grass, water and trees. Not being aware of any restrictions, we really enjoyed walking this path during the summer evening sunsets. There were no golfers on the course. We never entered anyones back yard, or strayed off the concrete path. We didn't have to dodge cars and golf carts on the streets.... we saw others doing the same..... and we enjoyed the beauty created by the designer of the courses, and the designer of the sunsets....

so we are disapointed to find out this is a no no. Can someone explain to me why...after the golfers are done with this beautiful space, why it cannot be used for a sunset stroll?

I'd guess that strollers are prohibited because someone would probably throw a coffee cup or cigarette pkge away, someone else would walk their dog off leash and not clean up, someone else would decide on an earlier stroll while there are still golfers. I'm just guessing, hard to police!

Is that all rules or just some rules?

clekr 09-18-2011 11:17 PM

the champion courses are private property ... liability...trespassing....

BigLew 09-20-2011 04:26 PM

the cart paths yes, but.....

I believe there is a Florida statute against walking a dog ON a golf course that is punishable (probably a citation):police:

I know what I will say will be of no satisfaction to you, but it is what it is.

I had previously made an inquiry to the VCDD about using the golf trails. My request was not for reasons of recreation, but rather as a path that would allow me to access our mail box without having to drive my mobility scooter on Odell where no sidewalks were available. The reason I wanted to use the route that took me onto the golf course was a matter of safty, avoiding the higher speed street usage and not a matter of a pleasure stroll... or roll in my case! In the number of emails (and a phone call to me) the following excerpt was stated:

"...the two largest reasons we restrict the golf courses to golf patrons only is for the safety of all involved and the interruption non-golfing traffic has on the golfers."

As I stated, it may not satisfy you, but it is what it is and despite my safty issue I did accept their reasoning and support it even though I didn't really like it.

For the sake of full disclosure, I did find out afterward that there was a way that I could make my trip to the mail boxes on all side streets because there was a sidewalk where I didn't think there was.

The distance it took me to get to the boxes and back was somewhat longer, but as a side benefit to that extended trip I did get to go by Graciegirls then home, twice and that in itself was worth the extra distance. However, now that she's moved away from there I'll be forlorn and sadly frowning every time I mosy on by the house! http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u...0kecil/sad.gif

the only problem i have with the sunset walks is that sometimes there are still golfers out there (who go out after the normal times - like me!). But as long as you don't mind me hitting into you then I have no issues:)

Or coming around a blind corner and knocking you off the path with my golf cart.................

Played golf at Belmont today and encountered a very nice black poodle being walked by an idiot, yes I said idiot. She was walking her poodle behind a rec center in the rough. When I told her that she shouldn't do that she pointed to the mowed part of the course (which she was only about 2 feet away from) insisting that she was not on the golf course and she would not move while we teed off. I called her an idiot to her face when I got up to her, she still insisted that she was not on the course so I called her and idiot a few more times and also said that I didn't care about hitting her but I didn't want to hit the dog because she made the choice of breaking the rules and put her dog into a dangerous situation. Lady, if you're reading this and you love your dog, please use your brain.

Unbelievable story. Our house backs on a golf course, and I can tell you, the balls are flying off the course all the time! The lady with the black poodle probably backs up in roundabouts too.

Barefoot 09-23-2011 03:50 PM

It's a safety issue, not a friendliness issue.

buggyone 09-23-2011 05:23 PM

Wow, this is showing what Florida's Friendliest Hometown is all about.

I can understand frustration but to call a lady an idiot to her face several times is going beyond the bounds of being civilized. Did she reply with half the Peace sign to you?

gatherer47 09-23-2011 05:35 PM

Keep it up George-This kind of stupidity needs to be challenged and I for one am glad you called her on it!

keithwand 09-24-2011 12:55 PM

I think I know that lady.
I tried to explain to her that when you die you get reincarnated but MUST come back as a different creature.
She said she would come back as a cow.
I said you're obviuosly NOT listening.
What an idiot.
LOL.

:agree: Sometimes you just have to tell it like it is. At least you didn't backhand her like the guy did yesterday in the Villages and got arrested. It was in today's Daily Sun. Maybe it was the same lady?

graciegirl 09-24-2011 06:18 PM

That ain't nice George, even if you are right.

angiefox10 09-24-2011 07:41 PM

Yep... We thought it would be nice to walk the path at 10:00PM at night but people have already threatened to run us over with their carts, hit us with their balls and think we're idiots. :D I'm a golfer and I never realized how dangerious a golf course was until now.:laugh::laugh:

Good post! This certainly gets the point across as to why the access limitation rule exists. Perhaps it would be more suitable to make a few copies of the article, (full article accessible using the link provided at the end of page 1) carry them in your golf bags or golf carts, then respectfully provide a copy to anyone in violation of the rule. It would seem that this approach would have a lot more of a successful impact on the violator than engaging them in a less than tactful or offensive confrontation.

Should I have teed off and possibly hit her or her dog? I tried the sugarcoated approach like some people seem to need on this board and when it didn't work then yes, I called her an idiot. What would you call a person that insists on being in harms way? Smart?

It's really not rocket science. If you want to drive around handing out copies then be my guest. She probably would have thrown it on the ground or picked up poop with it. Besides, as some comedian said "You can't fix stupid" and I'm not talking about you skyguy.

I have no problem with anyone walking around on the course at 10PM just not while there are golfers golfing.

I can't get over the sense of entitlement that arises here in T.V. and we wonder at that character issue with the youth of our country!! Whenever there seems to be some kind of rules, covenance or similar document---there is always someone who wants to step past the boundery and say "it doesn't apply to me!" I read this over and over in this site---be it with the speed vehicles should travel, traffic signs and more. Sure does make for some "interesting" reading here!!!

If I lived on a golf course and saw someone walking on the cart path at 10:00PM, I would call the sheriffs office.

Yep, saw that. For the record I'd never hit a woman or anyone for that matter.

that of course, the golfer can be a WALKER!...giggle
