golf clubs stolen

My golf clubs were stolen today from my golf cart in the Mallory parking lot. We had played Bacall and were eating lunch at Mallory and came out to find my clubs gone. Nobody elses' were taken. The manager and others at the golf shop were so helpful...one of the ambassadors drove all the way back to Bacall to see if they hadn't fallen out. Filed a police report, etc. I didn't have my name on the clubs or on my bag...shame on me! Also, the officer said that we should write down the serial numbers of the clubs as that info solved a case for him...the clubs showed up in Maryland. So if anyone sees a Nancy Lopez navy blue bag with a mixture of Lopez and Adams clubs, let me know here please. (If for some reason there was some kind of mix up and the clubs were taken by accident) There was a tournament going on so there was a lot of confusion in the parking lot.

You clubs

I'm really sorry about your clubs. Hopefully it was some sort of a mix up and you get them back.

Bogie Shooter 09-30-2011 04:45 PM

Did you have the cover on your bag?

jebartle 09-30-2011 04:56 PM

Sooooo sorry

I tell all my friends to watch their clubs.....I really miss that little golf cart that had the locking trunk even more now!.....I walk when I play and I even take the clubs in the restroom with me when I have to make a pit stop, I know, I know, I'm a nut case...

I'm sure the theft rate rises during snowbird season!

wilkinsm1 09-30-2011 05:17 PM

Thanks!

wilkinsm1 09-30-2011 05:18 PM

No, I didn't. My friend did and hers weren't taken.

mikeandnancy1112 09-30-2011 05:56 PM

I am sorry that happened to you. This is exactly what my husband and I were afraid of so my husband bought some cable wire and wired it in and around both of our golf bags in the cart and locked it with a key. It may not be 100% full proof but it has prevented theft. We also have a cart with an alarm system on the key.

graciegirl 09-30-2011 06:05 PM

Whether it be in The Villages or the parking lot at a convent...

I am VERY careful with my golf clubs. I won't eat anywhere I can't see them or I take them home first.

I do not want to know whether Sweetie is more protective of me or his golf clubs.

I am not going to ask.

I am so sorry your clubs were stolen. I would like to find the dreadful person and beat him up.

angiefox10 09-30-2011 06:46 PM

Wat?

Oh graciegirl YOU KNOW it's you!

I'm with you, Gracie.....Hubby has to be able to see the cart and clubs or we eat at home! Waughhh! I like the idea of the wire and lock......it's a shame that we can't feel safe here. I hope the clubs are returned but if it WAS an intentional theft I hope the robber has a lousy game with those sticks. More than likely they will turn up in a pawn shop. Good suggestion, too, about the serial numbers. I don't really know if mine have any! We DO have our names on them but I bet they would be ripped off in a hurry if a bag of crack was at stake. This makes me hungry for revenge! I think I need a bowl of ice cream after reading these posts. I'm hoping when I check back later I find that the clubs were returned. Weird things happen at our ages and I guess some senile person could have driven off with the whole cart. (Many of those cart keys ARE interchangeable, you know!)

Oh my gosh, Sweetie, Mike told me what happened! I'm so sorry! I do hope that they were just taken by accident and by tomorrow morning, the clubs will be returned to the pro shop.

Pat

I'm so sorry for your loss.

I love my clubs too. When we stop to eat or use the ladies lounge, we always keep our clubs within view or someone is babysitting our bags.

Last week here in Ca, several cars were broken into at our country club, computers, money and clubs were stolen. The economy is tough, people are desperate or simply thieves. No excuse to steal period.

Once again, sorry for your loss.

Posh 08 10-01-2011 04:17 AM

I hope they turn up. Sorry for the loss.

Taj44 10-01-2011 06:34 AM

Good luck on the recovery of your clubs. I drove by there, and there were a lot of people in and around the parking lot due to the tournament. I hope that someone just picked up the wrong bag by mistake. Keep us posted if/when you get them back. Also you might want to keep checking in case they fell off your cart and someone turns them in. I think Laurel Manor is the center of Lost and Found.

There was the funniest post some while back where someone had done just that...sure wish I could remember the title it was a hoot and I guess very easy to do!!!!!

VillagesFlorida 10-01-2011 07:40 AM

After living in Florida for the past 13 years, and after seeing some of the stupid things I am starting to do, nothing surprises me anymore! I am turning into "one of those old, forgetful seniors" and I don't like it at all. I hope that this is all that happened as far as these missing golf clubs are concerned. Maybe the "thief" looked in the garage this morning and saw some odd-looking clubs on his or her cart. Since there are no names on the clubs the "thief" might return them to Mallory Hill. If those were my clubs I would check in with pawn shops in the area, on the chance that the perpetrator was a real crook.

I lost my new 9 iron and I'm heartbroken. Can't imagine losing the whole set! I know I've seen some new cart/club safety inventions somewhere - I'm going to look into it.

All the pro shops at the C.C.'s sell a device to secure both clubs and bag.
I think they are $50.00 - which is 1/4 of the price of a bag alone.

And DON'T park in lots at C.C.'s - Park in the rear where only carts can park.

Sorry to hear stuff like that happening. This happened to me also a couple of years ago at Mallory while having lunch. Here is a picture of how I protect them now. Not fool proof, but should stop the casual grab and go.

That's awesome AJ. I think there are some brilliant minds in Norton MA!!

wilkinsm1 10-01-2011 12:09 PM

Thanks, Pat! I hope so too!

wilkinsm1 10-01-2011 12:16 PM

Thanks everyone for all the good advice and good wishes. So far I haven't heard anything but I think I will visit lost and found and a few pawn shops even though the deputy said that the pawn shops have to report everything taken in to the police. I especially like pro shop's comments about the $50.00 safety device for sale and about parking in the back where only golf carts can go. Didn't even think of that....also like the dog guarding the clubs but I don't think my Bichon would scare anyone.

The Village Girl 10-01-2011 12:25 PM

A picture is worth a thousand words

Maybe taking a picture of our clubs would help should they become lost or stolen.

I know I keep a picture of my luggage in my phone and when the airline loses it, I can show them the picture and they know what to look for.

Now, I will take a picture of my golf clubs! Just in case!
