Kentucky Fried Chicken

A few days ago we stopped by the KFC on 441 by Spanish Springs. We
were going through the drive in window and noticed how dirty everything
looked right down to the shade pulled down to block the sun. Then as
driving out looked at the windows and they were really dirty. The window
sill by the drive thru window was also dirty. I just can't understand how
anyone working there or the manager would ever let something like that
happen? You would have to be totally blind to miss this. You would think
someone would just pick up a rag and some water and clean things out of
pride. I hate to be negative but there is no excuse for this.

bkcunningham1 10-08-2011 04:54 PM

I said that about two weeks ago going through the drive-thru at KFC with my husband. I didn't want to say anything sitting right at the window for fear the girl working the window would hear me (how silly that sounds now), so I tried to get my husband's attention with few words. He didn't know what I meant and when I explained later he said, "OMG, are you complaining about KFC." LOL

Well, last week, we did the drive-thru again for sodas and he saw it for himself. There was something, I can't remember now what it was, sitting out that should have been refrigerated. I wish I had taken a photo with my phone and sent it into corporate.

If they don't clean that place up, it will be history. I hate that because I love KFC. The combination of KFC with Taco Bell is nice. I'd hate to see them lose business and have to shut down.

We lived in North Carolina for two years. Every eating establishment, big or small; if there is food served there, they get a state health department ranking which has to be posted in full display of the customer.

We got take out from there last spring. The first time either of us had been to a KFC in many years. It will be many more years before we try that one again. Food must have been sitting around if not all week at least all that day.

Georgia also requires eating establishments to post health department rankings. Does Florida not do this? I searched Florida Health Dept. and cannot find a mention of such requirements.

Someone who has witnessed this might want to contact corporate. Here is the number to report it to appropriate Florida agency:

Bill L. Veach, Director

Division of Hotels and Restaurants
1940 North Monroe Street
Tallahassee, FL 32399-1011

Phone: 850.487.1395
Fax: 850.921.8267

Here's a link to the website:

Please keep us posted if someone who can report the conditions follows up on this. In the meantime, thanks for the heads up.

But... yuck!

That KFC/Taco bell is now closed for about two weeks because they are renovating the whole place. So, it should be nice and spic and span clean in a little while! Hope they wash the windows too.

Virtual Geezer 10-08-2011 06:47 PM

I walked into that place in December of 2009 and had my eyes on the menu waiting for the couple in front of me to place their order. I then started to look around and really took notice of how dirty the place was. At that moment I was asked for my order and I said I decided I did not want anything as this place is filthy and turned around and walked out. Two other couples that were behind me also walked out. It is totally surprising how this place is still in business and not shut down by the state or county.

We too live in Georga where they post health score . We check all the time when entering a place. I refuse to eat in a place that can't maintain a 90 or better score, which is an A. [ Not every place is perfect with 100,] If score is lower I walk out, but first tell the hostess why we are leaving. It always amazes me why people will eat in a sub-standard eatery. I even have our 10 yr. old grandaughter checking scores, and if she is with her parents and sees a lower than 90 she tells her parents, " Grandpa wouldn't eat here!!" If you saw the filth on the windows , guess WHAT THE REST OF THE PLACE WAS LIKE? When no one complains they just keep raking in you money and things just get worse. :spoken:

raynan 10-08-2011 08:31 PM

We went to the drive thru a week ago and noticed the lobby was closed and under construction. I couldn't figure out how they could do construction and serve food and still be clean enough to cook with dust flying so we got out of the drive thru line. Boy am I glad we did after hearing these comments.

Waited to Write

Thank goodness we weren't the only ones to say something.. I waited to send the note as I didn't want to be a "complainer" but this one finally got to me. Even if they were closing to do some renovating there was absolutely no excuse to have such a filthy place. It was a disgrace. We bought the chicken and then threw it away as we did not trust it. It should be closed down!!:grumpy:

graciegirl 10-09-2011 06:25 AM

I have never been in a Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurant that was really, really clean. Never been in one that didn't make the best fried chicken you can find.

Still kickin'.

Have to Add

About a year ago I had a relative visiting and we stopped in at Johnny Rockets for a hamburg and hotdog. The floor was filthy, there were a couple of buns half under the counter and the area was generally very dirty. As a result the visitor asked if we could leave as he was not comfortable in such a dirty place. We cancelled our order and left and have not been back since.
It is a shame that a couple of places to eat have so little respect for their business as to not take the time to keep them even basically clean. :grumpy:

mikeandnancy1112 10-09-2011 11:49 AM

Our last visit there was about 5 years ago. Apparently, KFC in TV has not gotten any better.

Have not had KFC since I was a child. I used to love the honey on the biscuits

zcaveman 10-09-2011 02:22 PM

I went to the Villages KFC a couple of times and was not thrilled with the service - but the food was good. Back then - four or 5 years ago - the place wasn't that messy so I enjoyed the food.

Every time I get the book with all of the KFC coupons I want to go but I just drool and forget it. I don't think I can do justice to the KFC bucket any more or even the 7 piece basket with the mashed potatoes and gravy and the baked beans.

Here I go again. :icon_hungry::pepper2::beer3:

Cleaning must be a constant battle in a place where almost everything is fried in oil. The oil mist sticks to everything and everything sticks to the oil. No excuse for not cleaning daily and deep cleaning weekly.

logdog 10-09-2011 03:07 PM

There have been several articles in the paper explaining that KFC in TV was shedding Pizza Hut and going with only Taco Bell and KFC. Part of that reorganization included renovation of the dining area. Today, there was a reminder in the paper that KFC was only doing drive through due to the construction. We ate there a few months ago and found the food and service good but the renovation overdo. I think we'll be back for their buffet after the work is done. Meanwhile, the fried chicken at Publix is very good.

tpop1 10-09-2011 03:40 PM

My choice is....

Where did Pizza Hut go? We ate there 2 years ago. Well, some of our group of 6 got their food! Anyway, the service was SO bad, and the food was SO bad, that we never returned to that store-and vowed we never would. I wrote a complaint letter, and sent them an email explaining our experience. Never even got a reply. Our grandkids still talk about "the time we went to KFC/Taco Bell". And not in a good way!

Read Post #17..........
If you vowed never to go back, why would you be interested?

brostholder 10-09-2011 06:39 PM

I used to do quality inspections of pharmaceutical plants. I found that usually I would know in the first 2 or 3 minutes if the place was up to my specifications just by the condition of the floors. If they can't bother to keep those clean, they usually let everything else slide.

PennBF 10-09-2011 09:26 PM

Yep

Yep a year ago..Why ever go back when there are so many other great
places in The Villages ?:ho:

Carla B 10-10-2011 10:09 AM

We go to Popeye's in Leesburg whenever we have to have a fried chicken fix, about twice a year.

USSGompers 10-11-2011 01:20 PM

My mom, when she was alive, insisted on going there with her coupons whenever my sister was in town. YUCK! About 5-6 years ago, they had a fly problem so bad, that they had those 'Shell Pest Strips' hanging from the ceiling at the entrance, right near the trash cans. They were always loaded with dead flies. Enough to spoil anyone's appetite.

The fake plants are always loaded with dust, lots of dirty dust and there is a ton of black mold all over the fountain machines.

Once, while there with my 5 year old niece, we waited forever for her personal pan pizza. Finally my sister went to the cashier to see what the hold up was. She said that she would go back and check and from my seat in the dining room, I saw her pick one out of the trash and give to my sister. I told her to take it back up to the counter and get a refund. I wrote corporate but never heard back.

jblum315 10-11-2011 01:58 PM

Never found KFC to be a pleasant experience, but how else you gonna get that yummy fried chicken?

Golf View 10-11-2011 02:36 PM

Hardee's Chicken

Does anybody remember when Hardee's occupied that building before KFC?

Their chicken was the absolute best. If I remember correctly you got an 8 piece bucket for around 5 bucks with a coupon.

Mudder 10-11-2011 02:42 PM

Today on the way to pickleball I saw workers washing the windows at WENDY'S, so let's all go there instead! Floors and windows are the first clue as to cleanliness.

jblum315 10-11-2011 04:27 PM

Yeah but does Wendy's have great fried chicken?

Bogie Shooter 10-11-2011 05:22 PM

Post #17 indicates (and I saw the article in the Sun) that they are renovating the facility. Why not we give them a break and not post past experiences from 1,3,5 years ago about poor experiences. If after the renovation and things still are the same as in the past........continue to give them hell!

logdog 10-12-2011 03:53 PM

I am not a number...

Seriously, Publix has great fried chicken and are much cheaper than KFC. They frequently have the whole bird on sale for $5. Give them a try.

LittleDog 10-12-2011 04:00 PM

If you want good fried chicken Golden Corrals fried chicken is much better than KFC (my opinion). Also Speckled Butterbean has very good fried chicken but it seems not to be as consistently good as Golden Corral. I just don't know why people think that KFC is that good. I usually find their chicken dry.

Regarding the cleanliness of KFC now that they are renovating it if the same managers are there that were there before I would venture to say that cleanliness is not high up on their list so even though they have renovations I don't think there will be much changes regarding cleanliness.

I think Publix fried is much better as well. Not nearly as greasy, but moist and crunchy...

I agree that the fried chicken at Golden Crral is excellent. My second choice is Mccalls which is also very good.

Sorry. I think it is easier for someone to find a post if the number is given rather than indicating a name.

"I am not a number" was just a play on the old British TV series called The Prisoner who was trying to escape from a community called the Village. Was meant as a joke but probably too obscure I guess.

graciegirl 10-13-2011 07:25 PM

I tear off the outside of the KFC chicken because the inside is moist and tender and yummy and the outside is really, really greasy. I try not to think about the floors and the general appearance of the restaurant when I take that great chicken home with me. I also like the mashed potatoes and gravy that taste NOTHING like we make at home but still is good in it's own way.

I wish they'd have a little stricter franchise standards.

Posh 08 10-13-2011 07:54 PM

Hey guys, did you ever eat from the hot dog stand on Park Ave or the Chicken and Bread stand in Old San Juan or that Little Cantina in Mathis Texas or Tony's in Phillipsburg St. Martins etc, etc. ? I agree that all food places in Florida or elsewhere should be clean, no argument there, just saying.

No, but I almost bought a churro from a kid standing in a cloud of dust while I was waiting to get back across the border to San Diego from TJ!:1rotfl:

When in doubt, check out the bathrooms...I hate dirty bathrooms and if there is no handsoap.......ugh!!! What, if anything, are the employees using??? I also look at the door as I enter the restaurant, it's impossible to prevent fingerprints but a dirty door is a clear indication!!

never ever had that experience there. The place was always clean, it was just some of the personnel that were questionable :a20:
