What's your favorite art work in your TV home?
 

Long time ago I went to a young lady's apartment in Manhattan. It was a studio apartment and she had a good sized painting on the wall which was the most impressive thing in the room. Rest of her stuff was on the floor. A stereo, futon type mattress and a lamp. Don't think she had a TV. Despite this minimalist spirit, I was impressed with her. She and her painting were one and she oozed with the spirit of the painting. It is true "a picture is worth a thousand words." I could add sculpture, vase, or any memorial tokens that speaks part of you. So what speaks to you?:shocked:

Maybe it's narcissistic of me, but my favorite piece is a portrait of me, painted in 1949 (I was 13) by an artist who specialized in portraits. He painted Harry Truman and Harry's mother, too. Among many, many others!

I also have one he did of me in about 1943. And one his wife did at about the same time as the 1949 one.

I have a very large serigraph called "Magic" by Lu Hong. Actually, I have a few of his pieces, but that's my favorite. Every time I look at it, I see something different. we have a series of 6 paintings by Edna Hibel called "The David Suite". I fell in love with it years ago and had to have it. We also have a number of Norman Rockwells (prints of course, not originals) and a number of paintings that depict life in the 1920's, 30's and 40's on the lower east side of New York (Orchard Street, etc).

I have three Georgia O'Keeffe prints that make me happy.

I have an amazing work of art in my home that I call "Patti". She's picture perfect and enhances the rooms in my home. I don't think she's an oil painting but I'm not sure, but she is definitely life like. I think the artist created her back in the late 50s but she's in such good shape, she could be mistaken for a much more recent piece of art. It truly is amazing what a beautiful form of art can do to enhance one's life and one's home.

I think my two favorite pieces are sculptures. A very large one of tin of two
koi fish intertwined (about 2' by 3'), and a resting (on the floor) life sized
ceramic mountain goat...gorgeous. When I thought about this as my 'last'
home, I brought with me my favorite paintings, prints, sculpture, stabiles and mobiles. The house looks absolutely amazing and brings me much solace and peace having such spectacular ceiling height and natural light for art.

Indian Art
 

We have two prints by the southwest artist, Randy Wilkerson, that we bought at a silent auction in Amarillo. He wrote the title on the back and signed each one under the title at the auction. (Signature was already on the front as well as the print number.) The wood framing is so unique and totally complements the paintings. (They're too heavy to take down or I would include the titles here.) One is the profile of the head of a warrior and the other is of an Indian village.

Difficult Question
 

My wife and I have collected dozens of pieces over they years and most of them have strong sentimental value, so it's hard to pick a favorite. We have a number of ceramic pieces made by my mother (she's still an active clay artist in south Florida), so obviously I have a strong attachment to these.

We have a painting of the Cuban countryside which was smuggled out of Cuba which we treasure.

We have an original by Julie Jorgensen called "Blender Included" that depicts a cute little house on the water in Bocas del Toro, Panama which looks very much like our previous home in Bocas del Toro-the colors are stunning and it almost looks like a photograph.

My wife's favorite is probably the four foot wooden mermaid sculpture that I had commisioned for her by a local artist in Panama. He took a local hardwood log right from the rainforest, towed it in his little canoe to a beach, where he worked on it for weeks. It's a treasured piece.

These are probably our favorites, but it is hard to choose just one.

You are absolutely right. An art you love enhances one's life and one's home.:BigApplause: We are deciding which art to bring, to give to our son, or to sell. Since we are downsizing, we have a big decision to make. Am glad to note that there are people who love art lives in TV.

The piece of art I have that makes me smile is a copy of Van Gogh's Sunflowers. When hubby and I were first married, I remarked how much I liked that particular painting. I do enjoy Vinny's works, but that one was my favorite. He bought me a poster of the piece. We didn't have much extra cash at the time, but he got it for me.
When Linen's and Things was closing, they had a framed copy of that particular painting. The frame was a bit dinged up, but the picture made my heart happy so it's now home, in my great room. I touched up the scratches on the frame and everytime I see it, ahhhhh, sweet memories!

We have two serigraphs by Robert Lyn Nelson that we bought in a gallery in Lahaina, Maui, many years ago. While Wyland is credited with the "two world's concept" of painting a picture that shows the underwater and above-water scenes, all in the same painting, Nelson is actually the artist who pioneeered the Modern Marine Art Movement. Viewing the artwork takes us back to many happy days of snorkeling off Kaanapali Beach, where we saw so many of the tropical fish that he loves to paint.

We have a couple of Chagall prints we enjoy. I don't think most people like them, judging by some comments like "What's that supposed to be?" Doesn't matter, art is a personal matter.

Art
 

All of the art work in my home has been done by my husband. My favoite piece however, is the one he did for my birthday last year. It is a beautiful watercolor of my gorgeous red Hibiscus that bloomed continuously last summer. I have it hanging over my red loveseat in my living room and it gets accolades from everyone who sees it. On the opposite wall is another watercolor he did of Lake Sumter Landing overlooking the lake before the Waterfront Hotel was built. It also is gorgeous. My husband is a retired art teacher/supervisor from NJ and is so talented! I am proud to display his work.
