Need good landscape design company
We are wanting to tear out some shrubs and put in a "lush tropical theme" in its place. We are in need of references/recommendations for reliable and talented landscapers who can help us to plan and carry out the project. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks.

Try the 'search' button on the top bar of this page. You will find as many opinions as there are landscapers, but helpful information nonetheless!
It was helpful to us to drive through established neighborhoods (with houses similar to ours) and observe other's landscaping. If you see something you really like the look of, try asking the homeowner which company they used. Most people will be happy to share their information. That might serve to narrow it down for you. Welcome to the forum! |
I used Sabrina and Patrick McGowan to do landscaping on my courtyard villa. They were one of the companies recommended on TOTV. I am extremely pleased with not only the landscaping but the price I paid. Check out their website. http://designbymcgowan.com/

I'll second McGowan.

McGowen Landscaping
A couple of months ago we hired McGowan Landscaping to give our new home an exterior facelift and found that they are definitely the "Quality" landscapers that they say they are. Sabrina and Patrick McGowan constantly superivsed the work being done to make sure it was to our satisfaction and the "quality" they guarantee. At the end of the job we didn't particularly care for where two large bolders had been placed in our front yard so they came back and moved them without any hesitation. We are on one of our beautiful golf courses lots and they landscaped it to be "golfer friendly". We highly recommend them and their professional "team" of workers and what hard workers they are!

John Kirk did a great job for us. Quality work and very attentive and extremely reasonable prices. He takes pride in his work and knows his stuff.

The palms that are shown frequently in McGowen's Gallery, are they hardy for TV?

We used Jamie's Landscaping

to redo our CYV back and side. We are using him to do the front when we return this spring. He stayed within his quote even when we made changes and he knows what will be good in florida winters. He has a very good eye for design and the on top of that, he doesn't ask for any money until we were satisfied.
Attachment 1423 Attached a picture but don't know if it worked. Couldn't upload one of them. LW888 |

We used Village Palms. They put in a pond and waterfall along with great landscaping and a stone path. If you are interested in seeing the result, PM us after the first of the year. If you search for ponds on TOTV you should find a picture that we posted.

We used CustomScapes (off 441) They did an AWESOME job for us. Put in waterfall & dry river bed in back. Lush plantings. Great design. I can't tell you how many people have stopped to talk to me about my yard. A number of friends have used them and were also very happy. Check them out. You won't be sorry.

Whatever you do cross check with Seniors vs Crime or check the Florida Sunbiz site and google principles. If they have a criminal record or judgement it will show up. Business change names every season to escape detection. There is a place over on 301 south of 466 that has changed names like the change of seasons. Google principles and guess what.....TOTV is a great place for references. Good Luck.

We have been going through selecting a landscape designer for our project and, in doing so, we met with some of those listed and others not listed. The Villages Palm, McGowan and Tri County Landscaping all have very good and long established reputations in TV and and they where knowledgable and professional in our meetings.
Some suggestions: Share your budget with the designer. This way, you don't waste either your time or theirs. Spend time driving around TV to look for designs that wow you. We spent many hours seeking out our designer model to find landscapes that we really liked and used our IPad to take pictures. Spend time talking to neighbors who have had landscape work done and inquire about their lessons learned. This is invaluable information to have, IMHO. As mentioned above, you may want to contact crimes against seniors, especially if you are dealing with a landscaper you have not noticed on this forum. Make certain the landscaper provides you, at a minimum, with their insurance and contact information for their General Liability and Workers Compensation. Many also have a Bond. I share this with you because we spent time with a company that provided a great design, references and an agressive price. However, when pressed, they relented they did not have insurance. IMHO, a home owner would be nuts to allow a contractor to perform work on their property without proof of insurance. It is your responsibility to take the extra step by calling the insurance company to confirm the policy is active. Be suspiciious of any company that requires a large deposit. I spoke briefly to one company that required a 50% deposit...did I say that was a brief discussion? Those mentioned above generally require no deposit or a 10% deposit. Check references and don't be shy about asking the reference if they had to do it again, would they choose the same contractor and what went well or what didn't go well during the project. I can go on and on, but I'm sure other members will provide their input. Good luck! |
Custom Landscaping is great
W have used Custom Landscaping and they were great. They provide a computer sketch with the colors, flowers and plants they are designing. Their price was fantastic. Most of our street has used them and everything looks great!

We used Terrascape. They have a large selection of plants, shrubs and trees in their Nursery on CR 301.

Another vote for Jaime's. After our neighbors saw ours, 4 of them used him also. Has a good eye for best utilizing space. Also sat inside with us so that he was sure that we would be satisfied with what we saw from the inside as well as from the outside. By the way, our landscaping was done 18 months ago and we still get compliments!

YOU must call Ron's Landscape (Villager) View his work at Rons Landscaping Inc JUST did my neigbors, and BOY was I impressed!

Does TV put in landscaping that is more expensive when you buy? Do you put in a small package and then add to it? .....or are you better off getting a larger package initially?
|
When we bought in 2010 the landscaping was NOT negotiable. You got what they wanted to put in. What a waste. They should let people pick what they want or offer some packages. Most people are ripping out the sod and moving irrigation lines in the first year which could be avoided.

Tomas Perez Landscaper
Does anyone have a problem with Tomas Perez landscaper? He does a lot of work in the villages and I want to know if people are satisfied or have any problems after having the work done? Thanks

Has anyone had or know anyone that had Ron's Landscaping do their landscaping and planting palm trees etc lately?
