Have you ever had your picture in the Daily Sun?

Have you ever had your picture in the Daily Sun? What was it in there for? Did any strangers recognize you and comment on it? Arrests and criminal activity are strongly encouraged!

Figmo Bohica 10-30-2011 08:54 AM

Never had it in the Daily Sun, but check often at the Post Office to see if I am there.

Wife was interviewed on SS square one day about favorite vacation destinations. A few days later the picture was at the bottom of the front page. Neighbors brought it over to show us.

Bill-n-Brillo 10-30-2011 09:40 AM

Sandy and I went to the ribbon cutting ceremony for the opening of the Tamarind Grove pool/facility and got our mug shots in the paper.............. One of our TV neighbors came running across the street to our place the next day, waving the newspaper, to show us the picture. Now if THAT was the high point of their day.................. :jester:

DandyGirl 10-30-2011 09:44 AM

LittleDog 10-30-2011 11:57 AM

I was in the paper playing my horn during a practice. My wife was in for a book club and memoirs group.

Been in, in a group picture of our ladies golf group. Also had a short interview for our neighborhood social group and that was in the supplement section for clubs and activities.

Taltarzac725 10-30-2011 12:53 PM

Picture and story appeared in Daily Sun a few years ago.

I had a story written by Gary Corsair about my work trying to get information about state and local victims' rights resources linked from local public library web pages. This was from Lake, Sumter and Marion County Library Systems.

Along that line, a Daily Sun photographer had taken a picture of me working on my computer.

Back then, I had successful persuaded Lake County Public Library system to put in a link to the Florida Victim Services Directory.
http://myfloridalegal.com/directory

With all the budget cuts though and other financial problems and whatever other reasons this link has since disappeared. http://www.mylakelibrary.org/interne...ew=links&id=19

I had been working on getting links to the Florida Victim Services Directory made from libraries of all kinds in FL since around 2000.

Over the summer I was in the paper under Villager Spotlight, where you list your favorite movie, pool, rec center, candy, food and car. People at the rec center did come up to me to say they saw me in the paper. jackie

Vnn

Not to hijack the post, but I was on VNN. I was one of the first ones in the Kindred Spirits when it opened on Mulberry.

I should have saved the video! My 15 seconds of fame.

Sorry for the hijack.

Now back to your regular scheduled program.

Hey Z,
That's no hijack. It's in the (kindred) spirit to the topic at hand. ;)

Paradise in Pictures

A photo I took was on the cover of last February's Paradise in Pictures supplement to The Villages Daily Sun. It was a photo of a sunrise. Does that count? My name was mentioned on the inside cover, but no photo of me.

Will try again this winter to make it to the inside of the supplement :icon_wink:

That was gonna be MY line.:loco:

Floridagal 10-30-2011 10:39 PM

Had my picture in paper for my five favorite things a couple of weeks ago.

VillagesFlorida 10-31-2011 10:10 AM

In December, 2006, The Daily Sun did a story about me and the naval cadet who escorted me to the Grand Coronation Ball in the 1958 Miss USA/Miss Universe Pageant. There were a couple of photos. The reporter did a great job telling the story of two naive kids who met in a most unlikely way, stayed in touch over the years, and reconnected late in life. He named his first daughter after me so I guess I must have made a good first impression!

eremite06 10-31-2011 10:25 AM

A few years back, they did a big feature on Villagers who are retired firefighters.

I don't remember it but I hope they gave you the credit you all deserve. I can't think of a more noble occupation. I'm glad you are all retired now and out of harm's way......in my book you guys rank right up there with the military. Thank you for your service.

laryb 10-31-2011 11:00 AM

Thanks for all the responses! Someone at the pool once told me that the Daily Sun posts so many pictures of residents that eventually all 110,000 of us (after buildout), would have a photo in the paper. Personally, I have never had my picture in any paper, anywhere. Maybe there's a law against faces like mine being printed for public use. You know, to protect the innocent. Keep them coming.

swrinfla 10-31-2011 02:09 PM

Yes, I've been both pictured and quoted in the paper a number of times!

Thankfully, though, never on the Police Blotter page!

First time was in May 2006, when my collection of owls (figurines, pictures, etc.) and I were were featured.

If I'd have been in the paper "at home" it would surely have been relating something really, really bad!

My kids think I've become a-hard-to-know-personally celebrity!

Thank you for that. Seems as though we have gone from heroes to zeroes these days. Some think we don't deserve our pay and benefits. Believe me, I've suffered over my years of service with lost friends and physical injuries that affect me to this day. The average firefighter only lives 5 years past retirement.

I was in the Sun on Christmas Day. Had an Ambush Makeover on the Today Show, 12/16, in NYC. Recently, our Clog 4 Fun group was in the Mix. We attempted to look like the Rockettes. We need lots more practice.

Boudicca 01-11-2012 12:58 PM

Photo featured twice

Yes, I was photographed to illustrate a feature about my having published a childrens' book last year (The Worm Tickler), and I was interviewed and appear in TWO photographs in yesterday's DS (1/10) concerning yoga classes for "seniors". There I am on the front page no less - posed above Mitt Romney's head (LOL), and again on the front cover of the Leisure section. Cue music to "Fame"... LOL

lightworker888 01-11-2012 02:02 PM

I was in an issue at the end of November when a reporter came to one of the ukelele groups I am in and took pictures and did an article. Didn't like the fat neck angle , but then it is what it is. At least it doesn't stop me from playing. Looking forward to getting back into the groove. It isn't as much fun playing by myself up here in the cold.

Ambush - Kirk

Kirk, my hsband and I were watching the tv and saw you and your wife featured in the Ambush Makeover part of the show. Your wife looked fabulous, both before and after.

cquick 01-12-2012 08:16 AM

I was in the Sun yesterday, in the collection of photos of the Renaissance Festival.....I was petting a horse! I told my mom, and she told me I needed to mail the pic to her......

graciegirl 01-12-2012 10:43 AM

No. Just the post office.

I was afraid my picture might scare small children and pets!

A picture of everyone who attended my 60th birthday party was in the Daily Sun four years ago. I didn't know my friend had submitted it and was thrilled when I saw it.

A long time ago I was at Laural Manor for "government day" and George Horseford took my picture. It was in the newspaper the following day but no one ever said anything about it.

Once there was a picture and story about a woman who was retiring from wendy's. It was interesting because she was about 90 years old. For some reason I lingered over it.....I kept looking at the picture. Then, to my surprise, I saw a friend of mine sitting at a table in the background. It was surprising and funny at the same time. I called her to tell her about it and we got together for lunch.

Several years ago I had my picture taken by George Horseford at the grand opening of a new Citizen's Bank. Thankfully, it was never published. :)
