Why do people celebrate birthdays?
There are no wrong answers to this question.
Do you celebrate because you are genuinely happy to be older? |
Birthdays are important - in fact, I would even go so far as to say vital.
How else would us bachelors know it's time to change our socks? |

How do you know when you're getting old?
You know you're getting old when...."Getting a little action" means you don't need to take a laxative.

My grandmother said she was seventy years old for the last eight years of her life. :)

I still celebrate. Seems like having the birthday is a lot better then not having one.

For the presents! :p

All the answers so far have provided my daily chuckle! :jester:
One day, nearing my 40th birthday, I found myself thinking deeply about my Mom, the day she gave me birth and all that had transpired since that time. I decided to send her flowers to honor her on my special day. I continued every year after that, sending different flowers each time. After she passed away, I found all the cards that had accompanied each bouquet, tucked in an envelope with my name on it.. On the back of each card she had written: '...and I love you so...' Now my birthdays are days to joyfully think of Momma, 'send' her lots of love.... and just be happy! A very cool thing. |

I try to "avoid" my birthday, unless it's a milestone one! Then I may try to make a big deal out of it. When no one pays any attention, then I know that I'm probably "too old!" :sing:
Unfortunately, many of my friends are too likely to remind me that "It's your birthday!" It is always nice, though, that one of my older brothers remembers to tell me "Happy Birthday, kid!" :jester: SWR :beer3: |
On her 40th birthday, my daughter informed me that henceforth, "We will celebrate the birthday but forget the number of years."
Sorry, kiddo, it ain't working. You'll be 45 in March and I'll be sure you know it. |

IMHO
I think people celebrate to feel love so they are capable of giving love back. |

Yes, each passing year is a gift that I take time to do inventory on myself. Did I grow and have I made a difference in the world? The answer is not always pretty, but it gives me something to strive for, and change. Twenty more years I'll be almost perfect. Growing old has plenty of opportunities. Finally, we slow down and smell the roses and appreciate the beauty life has to offer. So yes celebrate your birthdays and honor all that you have accomplished in life. |

As for me, I love birthdays! I used to celebrate the day, then the week. Somewhere it rolled into the Birth Month (friends had a hard time getting together), now it's the Birth Season. It's a great thing to celebrate! |
